Town Targeting Crystal Palace Striker Thursday, 26th Nov 2009 13:38
Town are trying to secure the loan signing of Crystal Palace striker Stern John before today’s 5pm deadline, according to reports in south London. The 33-year-old previously played for Roy Keane at Sunderland.
The Trinidad and Tobago international has played for the Eagles only seven times since joining them in the summer after undergoing elbow surgery in August. He is yet to score this season.
Having played for Malta Carib Alcons in his home country, John moved on to the Carolina Dynamo, the New Orleans Riverboat Gamblers and Columbus Crew in the US before relocating to England with Nottingham Forest in 1999.
Since then the 5ft 11in tall frontman has played for a long list of clubs, largely at Championship level: Birmingham City, Coventry, Derby (loan), Sunderland, Southampton and Bristol City (loan), before joining Palace in the summer on a free transfer. He has made 109 appearances for his country, scoring 69 goals.
In eight months at Sunderland under Keane between January and August 2007, John scored five goals in 10 starts and six sub appearances, helping the Black Cats to win the Championship. Overall in English football, John has scored 97 goals in 250 starts and 105 sub substitute appearances.
On Tuesday Keane revealed he was looking at bringing in two loan players by 5pm today, one of which was a striker from a club outside the Premier League.

bluearmy dont think for a second that the way I am on here is any way similar to they way I am at home. Funnily enough I am generally a happy person who has alot to smile about......apart from ITFC ATM

I hope we don't get him, I'd rather see Priskin or Wickham get a run - then we'd know either way if they are going to kick on for town. Stead, Wickham, Priskin and Pablo, - not sure 5 forwards pushing for 2 places will help the form of anyone!

I think Dobie is right when he states that there is nothing particularly wrong with the squad but they are just low on confidence. And the reason why they are low on confidence?....Roy Keane is manager. Get rid of him now!

Agree corshamblue - unless its someone with real pedigree and with the possibility of signing permanently in Jan it's more likely to mean greater unrest amongst our strikers who are already rock-bottom on confidence. Just means more rotation and adjustment, not something we need right now. Until Sheff Wed game I thought we were closer to a settled team and had started to show in the results. Was pleased with Garvans inclusion and he got stuck in (surely ahead of Trotter/Quinn/Colback) but unless Martin had been spectacular in training was confused to see him start ahead of Pablo who has a great record against Sheff Wed. Whatever happens just hope Keano knows what he's doing and can get us out of this mess, starting with an upset on Sunday at the Bluebirds.....

Keane has already said, most teams are reluctant to let any players go out on loan at this time of year, so all you moaning lot expecting Ronaldo etc to sign should stick to playing your computer games. Keane knows how Stern John plays which can only be a good thing, and any striker coming in can only be a plus, (as our usual lot could'nt hit a barn door) so give the guy a chance before the 'hecklers' raise their voice and force another player out of Portman Road, with negatism!!!!!! I thought scousers used to whinge til I read comments on here.

Stern John is guilty of missing many a barn door, 26 goals in 4 years is pretty poor he had 2 ok seasons at Southampton where 19 of those 26 goals came, but id say the worry is the other 2 years where he scored 7 goals that is poor form and i dont think he's any better than the strikers we have at the club. Read an interesting story on the EADT about the possibility of David Healey lets hope theres some truth in that!!

Dream on ITFC1985 like David healy or any decent player would want to play for us at this moment in time....

It comes to something when I agree with CGS - I reluctantly understood, I think, the rationale and circumstances of the Rhodes sale as they were presented - but when it is purported that we are interested in John, then the sale of Rhodes doesn't look so clever...the strikers we have got are'nt suddenly rubbish, they need confidence...not sure that John would provide that....and with that in mind why has Rhodes been sold....come on Roy I desperately want to believe...but that is slipping...

this site is full of norwich fans clearly.. that arent exactly many other options dj campbell may have been an option as hes moved but no thanks... keane has made some excelent signings that wouldnt have even considered coming to ipswich before he was here....edwards,leadbitter,roseenior, all top players especially at championship level who cares where they came from. no1 could fault any1 for buying priskin and the start of the season either if you know about him he had a good scoring record including some scorchers against chelsea and totenham i believe he will still turn out very fruitfull hes looking gr8 in the last couple of games whihc have been his only decent run outs and stead looks good behind him just needs fine tuning and stern john might give them some actuall competition

Blue Knight 85 if RK has made some excellent signings why are Town languishing in 23rd posn in 2nd tier. This is the worst position they have consistently been since I started following them over 45 years ago. He is desperately looking for Loan players at this late hour, have you thought why?Could it be his unpleasant personality puts players off.Mr Evans needs to have a word to enquire why our Youths are not doing v.well at the moment and our scouting system only seems to reveal ex Sunderland players and Irishmen, and after his rant about the handball that robbed his countrymen of a place in World Cup,I shouldn't think some of them are too chuffed with him either.
