Priskin Has No Plans to Leave
Priskin Has No Plans to Leave
Tuesday, 5th Jan 2010 09:37

Town frontman Tamás Priskin has told the Hungarian press that he has no plans to leave the Blues during the transfer window. Reports over the weekend claimed that Town would look to sell Priskin and Pablo Couñago to raise cash in order to sign Derby striker Rob Hulse.

Priskin says this is news to him: "I’ve only seen this in the press and if it’s up to me, I'm not going anywhere.”

The Hungarian international admits the season hasn’t gone to plan so far but will be looking to remedy this in the months to come: “While at Watford last season I started more than 30 times, at Ipswich I’ve started only nine, but I work hard to change this. "

Priskin, who joined the Blues from Watford for £1.7 million in the summer, signing a contract until 2012, says that despite his lack of opportunities there has been no fallout with manager Roy Keane: "It is normal player-manager relationship with us."

The 23-year-old has scored only twice this season, in the Carling Cup at Peterborough in August and at Doncaster in the league. His last appearance was as a sub in the home league game against Peterborough last month with his most recent start at Cardiff at the end of November.

Give the boy a chance, create him chances and i'm sure he will score goals at the start of the season he got no chances whatsoever and felt sorry for him. His chance should now come with jon stead out for a few weeks and i'm hoping he can score the goals for Ipswich to push up the table.

marshallsmullet sums it up for me.

no one was scoring (or playing well) at the start of the season and Priskin was no different. Since Leadbitter has settled in and the defence has put its pants back on we have a team that Priskin should be able to play in.

there is no doubt the guy is good, I just hope keane plays him with stead missing and gives him a chance. Hulse? mmmm no thanks

Priskin did well away at Reading having carved out 4 gilt edged chances. If one of those had gone in (as you would expect a 1.7 m player to be able to do) perhaps things would have been different.

However, putting in lack lustre performance at home against the bottom club did nothing to win over any doubters he had.

Getting goals is all about confidence and I am sure that if we had been in a healthier position league wise, he would have had more chances to settle in. If he is given that chance I am sure he will come good, but he has to work at it. More importnatly he has to show the fans that he working at it!

Surely we can get someone better for Counago AND Priskin?

I never like to see a player leave a club before being there a full season, sometimes things just don't work out though (Priskin) and some are just not good enough (Healy). Although in Priskins case he has the ability and now Stead is out for a few games he should be given a run out in the team, alongside John.
Selling them both (Priskin and Counago) to bring in Hulse doesn't sound worth it especially as Hulse is apparently going to command a £2.5m fee and he's 30 now.
I never wanted to say this but if Pablo left to raise some (not much, doubt we'd even get the £400k that Swansea offered at start of season) may not be a bad thing, I doubt he'll ever get a real run out in the team, has only ever had one prolific season here in his first spell and I think maybe his best days are behind him.

buryblue77 - agree re Pablo.

I was a big fan, but he's had even more chances than Bowditch to show his ability.

We all think back to the season where he scored 20 odd goals, but he's never been close to that form since. Undoubted technical ability, but doesnt produce enough performances.

What concerns me is that I have not seen from him any real potential. He does not have very good vision, and doesnt seem intelligent enough to be looking for offsides etc. Hopefully, thats a form/system adjustment issue.
All we get as fans is a blank face. I've watched a montage of the goals he has scored for Watford. I think that he can do a job for us, but i think he probably needs a damn good run in the reserves to prove his worth.

alternatively, take advantage of Stead's absence, and start to score, pronto. for me, goals are the only answer to critics of Priskin, because i've not seen enough else to defend him with.

We do tend to do that at this club, as in being too sentimental at times, Bowditch, everybody thought he was some kind of wonderkid, another Rooney almost and the truth was he just wasn't good enough. Similar thing with Billy Clarke for a while. The only one who was never given a real chance was Rhodes so we'll never know about him. I remember when we first signed Pabs and this may sound a bit OTT but I though this guy has the ability to go all the way, perhaps make it into the Spain squad, if only as a fringe player-doubt we'll hold on to himfor too long. Never quite worked out did it and now he's 30 some still think he'll come good. Seems that some real managers (Joe and Roy) figured the guy out as he was left to rot under Joes management and the same is happening here again.

I would like to keep Counago goals aside i think he can offer us something different against sides who just get behind the ball and we struggle to break them down Plymouth, Peterboro ,Derby games .
And for those who say Priskin has had no chances he has missed 3 free headers with only the keeper to beat , a one on one with the Derby keeper , missed a penalty at Peterboro and often looks lazy and not working for the team ,and his record for Watford wasnt great 15 goals in 65 appearances .That said i would rather keep both than get Hulse

i actually think rob hulse is quite a good striker, keane has said hes looking for a target man and hulse fits the bill - BUT - only if the price is right. the reported 2.5 million is ridiculously inflated and i wouldnt want to see us splash out that much on a 30 plus striker. It is also ridiculous to suggest priskin should be leaving, give him time to settle in and im sure he'll repay us. As far as counago is concerned, I love him, he's one of my favourite town players ever but despite his skill and terrace favourite status i wouldnt be sad to see him move on, hes on a big wage and not really ever gonna cut it. we have stead, priskin, wickham coming through, walters can play up front and if we added hulse then counago would be surplus to requirements. a 1.5 mil bid for hulse funded by the sale of counago and lisbie and maybe a loan deal for kevin phillips would rejuvinate our strike force and leave us not so reliant on steady for goals.

No evidence of him perfomring at all well on the stage that I have seen him play. Oh I'm a season ticket holder. Generally not impressed. In his defence he has not had a run of games to get settled, but then again as a professional should he really need to, they do practise after all.

nthstd - Maybe you should give up your season ticket, you do sound a little hacked off at footballers??

'they do practice after all' - oooh, get her

If Priskin was half the striker he was thought to be he would be playing,he hasnt produced the goods and has not looked like producing when given chance, wouldnt break my heart to see him go,Hulse , well i dont think he is likely to set the place alight ,The trouble is we cannot sign top strikers, only young hopefuls or has beens, thats fact, so we have to go for lesser of two evils, i would probably go for young hopeful .

dirtydingusmagge - Why would we want to see Priskin leave? We would have to take a c.£1 million loss on him if we sold him now. Get real and get behind the team!!

You would go for a young hopeful?!?!? = Priskin!!

Agree with most, dont give up on Priskin, dont compare with Parkin,Priskin is a international class player, given service will start getting the goals.
Garven---he has not looked back since that majical performance at Cardiff,i gave him 11 out of 10 showed why we do not give our players grief, get behind them all---Keano Keano

Tamaz Priskin should be given a chance. He is not a Hungarian international for nothing and with the right support and confidence shown in him by RK, will flourish. Different players need handling in different ways. He will respond as did Gareth McAuley and Owen Garvan and prove to be the link we have been missing. Btw although I live in Wiltshire and do not see the Blues that often I would like to commend the fans at Ashton Gate before Christmas. I went with my 11 year old son and we were proud to be supporters of our great club.

Good to see the fighting talk - now want to see that on the pitch. Wouldn't be surprised if we try and cut our loses. Pablo can go as well - sadly (as I am a Pablo fan) he hasn't performed this season and has been given plenty of chances.

To be Honest I don't care if he stays or not! he's a complete waste of time/money/space! Ok, he's not appeared much, but maybe thats because whenever he has been given time on the pitch he's been shocking! No wonder he's happy to stay! I would be happy to sit on the bench taking his obsence salary! SHIP HIM OUT!

Good to see some positive comments regarding Priskin. He is an international striker and a very good technical player. He is also an excellent goal scorer. He hasn't yet shown enough but as with Stead initially, confidence is low. Consider the service Priskin has had , high lumped balls . He needs balls to feet inside the box and the goals will flow. Yes he maybe a lazy player but he makes intelligent runs. Can't be compared to Pablo as he will never be a goal scorer and is now somewhat a spent force having been a good servant but a lazy one. Bowditch and Rhodes both good players who have now found their level and are scoring goals.

First time I have commented! Scouser, living in Yorkshire - get to most games in north (6 so far this season) and occasional visitor to PR (once) - there..... credentials over! When he scored against Doncaster, had hoped Priskin would start to shine. Awful against Newcastle (but so was everyone else) but I thought he played well against Sheff Utd and was surprised when he was substitued. Same against Barnsley when he was agressive throughout and again substituted (does he have stamina issues?). Since then, he has been in and out - rarely starting and when he has -being taken off. I reckon, like all strikers, confidence is key and they must not feel afraid to miss chances. Without a run of games to prove himself, Priskin is unlikely to get the confidence he needs and with Stead out for next three games, now is the perfect opportunity for Keane to let Priskin know he is in for at least these games and tell him to get out there and grab the shirt. To get rid of him now would be a ridiculous waste of money and something the club can ill afford. Finally (and I know he had had an injury recently), Lee Martin has contributed almost nothing so far - one tap in at Donny as far as I can see. If Town are going to get rid of any of Keane's signings, imo it should be him - lightweight and ineffectual. Sorry about the length - will try to be more concise in future!!!!!!
