Keane Angry After Defeat
Keane Angry After Defeat
Wednesday, 17th Mar 2010 00:22

Town boss Roy Keane left his players in no doubt about what he thought of the performance at Watford, keeping them in the dressing room for 90 minutes after the 2-1 defeat.

Keane felt his side started poorly and never recovered: “We kicked the ball out play after three seconds, and it set the tone for the night. We’ll need to spend hours and hours now on the training pitch just practising kick-offs. It’s unbelievable."

The Blues boss was less than impressed that his side only started to show any form in the second half and then gave away a second poor goal: "The game started at quarter to eight.

“We couldn’t have been any worse in the second half, and we got ourselves back in the game, but we gave another bad goal away and shot ourselves in the foot.

“I freshened things up with one or two players coming in, but they didn’t give us the freshness we were hoping for. They say don’t change a winning team, and it could be true. You can bet your life I’ll be making changes now though.”

Keane replaced Owen Garvan after only 22 minutes and said he might have made other early tactical substitutions: "There could have been more. I really believe Watford wanted it more and that is hard to stomach."

Watford boss Malky Mackay said winning goalscorer Will Hoskins has been pressing for a place in the side: "Will has been close to getting in the team in last couple of weeks.

"He's matured this season, he's had a child with his partner and settled down. He's undoubtedly talented but it's also about workrate and we have seen that recently - I'm delighted for him.

“We had a lot of possession in the first half and it could have been two or three, so I was disappointed when their goal went in, but I had no doubt that they had the character to go on and win it.”

I'm no "Keane out..er". I find his honestly very refreshing, and enjoy his press conferences which are free of bull & excuses. However, he really needs to up his own "game" because he makes far too many mistakes, both tactically and in his signings for the club. Both these mistakes were evident last night, in changing a winning team, subbing Garvan so early on, and Lee Martin on the pitch

Hmmm - was pretty p....ed off after last night
Still concerned about the subbing of Garvan for MARTIN
Yes he had a sloppy start but who didnt !!! to bring a donkey like Martin on who has rarely featured - I saw him against the Watford ressies and he was about as ineffective then - he has a stepover that makes the great Fabs look like Messi
I really hope we can bounce back but fear that old keanes tactics of changing for change sake may just add to the problem
We have some good solid players who shoudl be capable of more - makes you wonder why Keane doesnt get the best out of them
Probably cause him and the coaches are very average
Curbs seemed to enjoy the game

Rest Walters and give the Armband back to McAuley! Controversial ? why not, in form and has mitigating the reasons behind him loosing it in the first place!

After attending last night I was in a terrible moad on the way home and still feel very frustrated.

Ok, a degree of blame has to go on the manager, but lets not forget there was 11 players "supposingly" wearing Ipswich shirts last night how come they dont stand up and take so balme. I have no problem getting beat if we work hard and are beaten either by a better team or a lucky goal. Many many people would have loved the opportunity to be a proffesional footballer, but last night there seemed to many that juist expect to turn up and collect the wages. What about us poor souls that are earning considerably less than the players and we travel up to watch that s***. I think to prove what these players think of us and the club how about refund our ticket prices from last night. Nice token gesture !!!

Was a bit confused though when we are 2-1 down with 15 mins to go when making a couple of changes, why not go for and play 3 or even 4 strikers as in the end Delaney was up front !!!

I am guessing at 5/6 changes on saturday.

Still up Keano and up the town.

Once a blue always a blue !

Corsham - problem, if Keane takes Walters off, the walter lovers will hate keane and moan about him being taken off, same as Garvan same as Counago same as D. Wright, a lot of supporters dont understand that a lot of our players aren't actually that good, would i have walters in my team no, Garvan? no, only at home on our pitch, Keane can't win, when he replaced Rosenoir for D.Wright he was moaned at then and then when he changes it back he's moaned at again. poor guy!, just a loss, we werent going to go to the end of the season without loosing, so bring on Satruday for 3 points

What I don't understand is how we have a couple of good results then put in an absolute shocker!! Not the first time it's happened this season, that's why we've not pushed on with consistency. Need to sort it out with a good win against Barnsley on Saturday.
COYB!!!!!

I am no "Keane Outer" I just want him to bash a few heads to togther, and make some of the "players" realise that they are proffessional footballers and earn lots of money to do so, and to play like they did last night is unacceptable. Especially with great travelling support!

"Town boss Roy Keane left his players in no doubt about what he thought of the performance at Watford, keeping them in the dressing room for 90 minutes after the 2-1 defeat."

Perhaps Mr Evans should keep Keane in his office for a couple of hours and leave him in no doubt what he thinks of Keane's lack of managerial qualities.

Are all town fans bipolar? We win and it's all "woo hoo, play-offs here we come" we lose and it's "we're getting relegated" and "Keane out" - get a grip boys, you're embarassing yourselves.

Current form (last 6 games) we're in the top 6, we had won 2 on the bounce, scunthorpe was ugly win, but how many times we been the better side and lost/drawn? Then we head to Watford on a Tuesday night.

We haven't beaten Watford in nearly 10 years, last season we got beat there and it was a sky game and was one of the worst town performance I've ever seen - not quite West Brom away this year but close to it.

I wasn't expecting a win, although I wasn't expecting the nature of defeat but bogey teams do exists, so get over it, it's gone now and we move on to Saturday. COYB

Look, everyone is entitled to a bad day at the office, it was just unfortunate that we had about 5-6 last night having one. the good thing about football is that we can forget about last night and move on to saturday and hopefully a few players will be shaken up and up for it in the next game. I know marttin has been a woeful signing but you cant expect to get it right all the time ie ferguson and veron, wenger and jeffers, benitez and the whole liverpool squad. COYB!!

It's not about being fickle, 'Keane out-ers' feel this is a good time to air their views! People have got to stop being shallow, stop blindly following like sheep. Can you not make up your own minds? Look at the full picture. What is going wrong at this club? We have the quality of players, Garvan has huge potential and we've seen what Walters can do. Keane deserved for us to trust his judgement when he first arrived but people can lose that trust. The way he treats the players is humiliating, he bullies them into performing and I'd guess he threatens them with weeks on the sidelines if they dare to speak out. It's psychological. Jose mourinho is a great manager... why? Because he works with the players and builds them up to believe. Roy Keane appears to treat them like idiots.

I don't want Keane out necessarily, I want him to learn how to get the best out of our players and if that means changing his attitude then so be it. He's still learning but if he can't do it then we need to get someone in who can. Support the club, support the players but you can't support a plan that's just not working.

Keep singing and getting behind the boys, let them know we believe in them.

Can i just add some positive to last night! i thought the fans were truely magnificent! it was a great atmosphere at our end. i said to my lad, "wow, if you were town players coming out to this atmosphere on an away game, you'd really put in a big effort" errrrrrrrrrrrr WRONG!
Well done town fans, it was a very enjoyable night off the pitch, shame about on the pitch, and i agree with previous comments about taking Garvan off, changing a winning team etc

Dobbie73 'It's only one game' where the hell have you been the rest of the season?

If you think I or others enjoy watching the kinda s**te served up tonight you must be joking and no, I don't just blame Keane but the players too, but lets be fair, what the hell is Keane on as our manager. Every time a team wins he changes it & we don't have the strength in depth to do that & where oh where is the motivation, Walters is no Captain and the responsibility seems to have ruined his game.

We're clueless, rudderless and are still in danger of going down, yes I'm an anti keaner 'coming out on cue'....don't you want better than this? I knew as soon as Keane was appointed that it wouldn't work, oil and water don't mix

Bring in someone to give us our club back ........ quick!!!!

If the bus left from Watford 90 minutes late, that means that the whole team missed last orders?
Still, by the looks of the performance, they'd been in the pub all afternoon anyway!!

I guess the problem I have with this season (especially the second half) is that whenever there seems to be signs of improvement RK goes and changes things to mess it all up again.

Several clean sheets? Right, drop D Wright then and destabilise the back four.
Garvan involved when we win? OK, drop him again then. And then when you are forced to bring him back make him a scapegoat so you can drop him again.
Team playing well? OK, 'freshen it up' then.

Garvan may have been playing badly last night, but how was Martin going to help? The guy has been in the dark for months (and he's been kept in the dark by RK who presumably didn't think he was good enough). Garvan was the outstanding player against Cardiff and while I agree that if the game doesn't suit him then he becomes less than useful I hardly think subbing him after 20 mins for MARTIN was going to help matters.

I guess what I'm saying is that RK doesn't seem to be learning his lessons. The samer mistakes have been made time and time again this season and it's worrying.

Yes, we've played well a few times, but then we should with the squad we've got! but we've played poorly on far more occasions.

Mate of mine, said that somebody he knows who met a friend at a chipshop after the game had overheard a conversation with a fella from stoke, who'd been down in London and was on the tube who overheard that Elvis was at the Ipswich vs Watford game last night wearing a white and blue sequined jumpsuit - although I think it was actually Alan Curbishley - pass it on!

Agree we lack a leader, the captains armband seems to have had a negative affect on whoever wears it for the past couple of seasons, maybe Leadbitter or Norris would do a better job?

The blame should be shared 50 50 between Keane and players for last night. Keane was torn between freshening up and not changing a winning side but how was he to know the players would put in such a lacklusture display??

As for the people that claim Keane has no man management skills, do you think he spent 3 years under Clough and another 13 under Fergie (two of the best at managing players) and learnt nothing?? Magilton did nothing to stop the lacklusture performances, at least with Keane you know he will take action and ensure his players will not put in that kind of performance again, or at least not for a few games, soon enough the players will get it through that performances like last night are not acceptable.

I would have thought Daryl Murphy's comments would have ended any of the comments about Keanes lack of man management skills, didn't he come out and say 'there are no issues with keane's style, he tells it how it is', if players like Garvan can't handle that then they shouldn't be a professional footballer.

Keane is not a manager simple as that, needs to go now.
Did someone say Curbs was watching?

Why don't people give him Keane a chance.....first full season and everyone expects him to be a miracle worker. He took over a weak team and is building a team for the future, 'Rome wasn't build in a day' is a saying that comes to mind. If after 3 to 4 seasons still in same position then he wasn't right for the job but you can't say it after a year if that. End of the day why get promotion to the premiership when we will struggle to stay up and see Ipswich lose most home games. I rather stay in Championship and see them win than see them play good teams like chelsea and lose. If i wanted to see the Big premiership teams i will watch them on Match of the day and not pay £25 to see them thrash Ipswich.......
