Keane Speculation Starts Again
Keane Speculation Starts Again
Thursday, 18th Mar 2010 09:00

Tuesday’s defeat at Watford again has the tabloids speculating that Roy Keane’s time as Town manager may come to an end sooner rather than later. One report this morning claims Keane and Marcus Evans will hold talks before the end of the season.

Town’s owner and chairman is said to be less than impressed with the Blues’ position in the table and with the style of football, while players are claimed to be unhappy with Keane’s management.

Reports that Keane’s time as manager would be coming to an end have appeared fairly regularly throughout the season, particularly during the long winless run, with chief executive Simon Clegg previously giving the Blues boss his and Marcus Evans’s backing.

However, Evans is unlikely to have been impressed with the Blues struggles at the wrong end of the table this season, having invested significant sums to help Town into the Premier League.

I suspect this is nothing more than the usual paper talk with absolutely no substance at all. I think RK's pre & post match interviews are refreshingly honest & I thoroughly enjoy listening to them. However, there is no doubt that he keeps making tactical errors, his man management skills are quite brutal, and his judgement when it comes to signing players (or letting them go) is questionable to say the least.

If Evans was happy with are current position I would be worried.

If only his management qualities could equal his interviews we would be laughing.
Agree that probably press just filling a space in the papers, but IMO M.E. will not be impressed on return for his outlay so far, especially when other managers in the Championship have managed better results (league positions) with a much smaller budget and inferior team on paper.
If a change is going to come then when Town are mathematically safe or end of season gives any new manager a good amount of time to work with the players.
Don't think it will happen though and based on this season so far, unhappy times as a fan/supporter will continue.

So what do we do then, get rid bring in another manager, let him rebuild yet again & have another season of mediocrity!

Or do we stick with a manager who has brought in his players & give him at least another season. Pretty sure that Bobby Robson got off to a slow start but we were more than happy with him in the end.

Stop knocking & start supporting.

He would be stupid to get rid of Keane both on and off the field..... firstly you have to give manager time to build the squard he wants and secondly as a the businessman Marcus Evans is, think how much publicity he gets from having Roy Keane as Manager. Every time i watch Sky Sports news Keane is on there and half the time it's not even about Ipswich and in the background there is his name....Marcus Evans!!!! How much money would that generate, no other manager would get that

totally agree wit bluemangroup. Yes we are not where we want 2 b. But the players that he has brought in are 'his' players. If we sack him, we start from scatch all over again.

It makes no sense to do this now, if indeed it's being considered (which I doubt it is). We're in the best position we've been in for a while being six points above the drop zone with two very winnable games at home.

OK, Tuesday was poor and RK needs to look at his own performance before the teams, however, I don't know of anyone else that is available that would do a better job in the next few games. Before RK took the job I was hoping for Curbs, but it's very unlikely we could recruit him.

I say stick with what we know. There have been many times this year when RK hasn't done a great job on match day, but all the signs are there that he / we will get this right. Rome wasn't built in a day. Cliche I know, but it's very appropriate.

We need to stick with him or we'll have another season of rebuilding and fighting off relegation.

Interesting crystal ball you have their Bluemangroup in being able to predict the performance of a new manager. Lets hope its better than the bookies predicted for Keane. I wish the season was mediocrity as that would mean we were in or about mid table, much higher than we have been all season so far!
We can match plenty of 'Robson given time' scenerios but he was not given £8million to spend and the Cobbolds ran the Club as a hobby rather than the business that football has become today. Keane has far more players coming in less than a season than Robson had in almost the whole of his reign.
As for publicity not sure if its the right type of publicity. I'm sure he would rather have the publicity that Newcastle are receiving than Town and be at least in the playoffs. Promotion is where the real publicity will be playing in the Premiership. I would love to see Keane do well at Town and probably have more patience if we started to show a run of form to match our squad of players, but M.E. is the man who will need the patience and going by the rubbish we have witnessed this season and poor poor decisions in so many areas it will interesting to see how long it lasts!

Getting rid would be a massive error. We need to keep the faith in keane. Come next december if we are mid table or below, then theres no excuses and he needs to go.

With two of our most important games of the season to come this is not the time for the Club to rock the boat. Many of our players only came here because of Roy Keane so how will they feel if we get rid now. For all the disappointments of the season apart from Peterborough (a) and Watford (a) the players in general have given it their all for the Manager although I admit class and guile have been missing. I do think Keane is tactically naive and his team selections have been baffling a la Tuesday night and yes many performances have been poor but I personally think it would be folly to sack Keane now as it can only have an adverse affect on the likes of Leadbitter, Edwards, Healy and Murphy which in turn could upset the whole camp. The important thing now is to stay up this season and then review the situation.

Regardless of whether the tabloids are correct in their speculation, i feel the number of season tickets the club sell will have a bearing on Roy Keanes position as manager.
Its been a very poor season but i for one still have faith in Roy and honestly believe that he will be a very good and successful manager.

I don't like the press, the speculation & the damage they can cause, well it's just not right.....................but for once I hope it's true!!
Remember guys, this is the same ME who sacked Jim Magilton with only 2 games of the season left. Get Curbs in now (funny he was seen at Watford the other night??!!) & get the egotistical Irishman out, he's made us a laughing stock.

Loving the debate! If we bring in Curbishley or someone like Dowie (poor old Hull!), would that suddenly have folk busting for a season ticket? I think not. Give him time. Tuesday was indeed woeful, but two winnable games ahead and mid table will be assured...,and ready for a proper push next year.

I'd be inclined to wait until Christmas, assuming we avoid the drop. If we are not in the top 6 by then we should look for a new manager. Looking forward to a good win of Saturday - my first, and very late visit this season.
