Keane Delighted With Victory
Keane Delighted With Victory
Monday, 5th Apr 2010 21:53

Boss Roy Keane was delighted with Town’s 3-1 victory at Derby, hailing it the type of performance the Blues need to produce more often away from home, but was unhappy with the Rams’ late goal.

Keane said: "We made hard work of it as usual. We gave a shocking goal away but three goals away from home, we'll take that. I enjoyed the game, it was a good battle out there which I knew it would be.

"We are just focused on winning football matches and we've not done enough of that this year, but today was about rolling your sleeves up.

"These are the kind of performances we need. We are trying to change the mindset of what Ipswich is seen to be, particularly away from home where we are probably seen as a soft touch and we have got to change that.

"We need to start turning in performances like that on a regular basis if we are to progress.

"There was lots going on. Decisions to be made but going away from home and scoring three goals is something we have not done very often this season and it's very rewarding.

"Connor showed great maturity for his goal. It's been a good week for him, but I don't want to single out individuals because it was a good team performance."

After the game, referee Jonathan Moss confirmed that both Stephen Pearson and Derby boss Nigel Clough had been sent off for foul and abusive language. Clough admitted that he may have sworn at the official prior to being sent to the stand: "Quite possibly, yes.

"The referee asked me to repeat something. I did and I asked was he sending me off for that, and he wouldn't answer.

"He asked me to go, so I went and sat in the stand. He then asked me to move higher but the stand is the stand. It has to be something I said.

"I think it was for something [Stephen Pearson] said as well as he was walking away, but I don't think it was aimed at the referee.

"But we have missed a good opportunity to get another point or three on the board. Despite all the warnings before the game about not conceding early, we conceded after three minutes from a corner.

"That's the most disappointing thing, all the talking done in the last 48 hours, to stay unbeaten, that's the mentality we are still some way from instilling."

Yeah you get people on here and even though you disagree with them, at least they are intelligent. And then you get MoscowBlues who just talks out of the gutter and has nothing of value to say.

Sorry but look some of the pointless things you say every time you comment, you say nothing about the players and performances etc. Have you actually seen us play this year?

PaulMariner added 15:31 - Apr 6
Somersham - mainly, but not exclusively, that Keane is not and never will be the right person to manage Ipswich. You know the reasons why, i dont have time to list them but they've all been said on here at one time or another.

PaulMariner............Have you heard any Keane out chants this season???

Maybe if you feel so strongly you should start the Keane out chants yourself in whichever stand it is that you sit in?

Maybe you and Keanoblindfaith could renew your season tickets together and start your crusade??

To be honest things are so bad according to you guys that you probably wont even bother to renew?

Just my opinion, like your valuable ones, try not to jump all over my post too quickly

Thetruth, the question is, Have they even had season tickets this year?

Yes, I see the vast majority of matches as well as 3 or 4 away. What about you? I accept performances are improved but the lague tavble does not lie. This season has been dire and nothing will change my mind. I have kept quiet all year as I felt my opinion was premature. However, I can state my opinion in April surely. As we stand, we are still in the bottom half of the table (where we have been all season) If Keane fans are satisfied with this, good luck to them. I am slightly more ambitious. I am fully behind the team but I want Keane out and you have never seen me having a go at the players !!!!! As for Moscowblue and his "bumming" comments - you are worthless and I am not going to respond to your garbage any longer.

I've been to every game this season home and away. I think after the poor start to the season, people can now see that the players are starting to gel together and they can see that Keane can succeed at Ipswich, so therefore get behind him and the team, and don't continue to criticise even after 2 consecutive wins that we would have lost at the start of the season.

Appreciate you not slating me........

Lets be honest, and this if fact - Many of our players have been poor this season, you must agree with that!

Do you not agree that they are the ones who have to perform on the pitch and win matches? We have bottled so many games this season, too many players making too many mistakes, simple as that.

Roy Keane was one of the greatest players in the Premier League, his awards stand by that. He was hungry and had desire, put his body on the line for his club, wore the shirt with pride and never stopped battling, we need players like that! Owen Garvan stands out as someone that in battle will always bottle, its really that simple. And John Walters telling Connor Whickham to work his socks off if he is going to succeed is a joke.....

Come on lets be realistic, the players are not immune for the poor start to this season, they let us down too many times, Peterborough being one for me that really stood out.

There is too much posion on this site, people need to agree that this season will be on par with Magiltons last, but trutly now i can see some grit in the side, i like to see players do battle, the championship is tough, you need fighters!

Hey the truth. I am not on here to argue with people. Some muppets like Moscowblue and their bumming comments deserve to be slagged off. Of course the team has been poor but I make a habit of not slagging them off. Not even on this forum. Booing your own players is counterproductive. I think a lot of what happened earlier this year was that these players were scared of Keane. I think it's possible that they didn't want to make a mistake and their performance suffered as a result. I am pleased that we do have some fight about us now and you have to agree it's about time. Still not convinced about Keane but I support the players 100% at the games and on this forum (and I do have a few I dislike). COYB

How could anyone suggest, as someone above did, that Reading werent bothered, or were thinking about their summer holidays, if they win their games in hand they are 3 pts off the playoffs (they were obviously interested again yesterday, they won 3-0).

Some of criticisms of RK- he intimidates players- why then do all of the players that played for him at Sunderland want to join, Whitehead would have signed during the summer only for Stoke coming in, Bardsley is the latest being mentioned. Also, the media suggested last week that he was about to be sacked. If he didnt have the players behind him, it would have been very obvious the past 2 games, instead they showed that they very clearly want him as their manager. Why? because he was an honest player and is and honest manager, unlike so many.
The main other criticism- his ability in the transfer market. Most of the players he signed, including loan players, have worked out very well. O'Connor and B. Murphy were free transfers, I am sure both would generate fees if sold now, which I am sure they wont be. Edwards, Priskin & Martin all have talent, there are loads of examples of players struggling in their first season with a club, who came good in their second.

Reasons to be optimistic - there is now a solid spine, a shape to the team, real honesty of effort, though certainly not yet worldbeaters. Probably the biggest bonus is that teenagers Wickham and O'Connor have appeared in 35 games between them this season. There may have been times that they have looked slightly out of their depth, but their manager has shown faith, and they will have learned a huge amount. Both will be assets, and Wickham with the fast forwarding of his development, could be the star of the team in a couple of years. The main differences between him and Rhodes are that he wants to play for the club, and that he has a lot more ability.

I agree with a few of jbb's point above. If Keano was as "harsh" as some made out I am sure the ex-Sunderland lads would not have joined us. However, I think that Keane did frighten a few players. I think they tried too much at the start of the season not wanting to fail under Keano's hawk eye. I think this did affect the performances for a while. Maybe I am wrong but who knows. But it is pleasing to see a bit fight in the side now. I am seriously hoping it continues.

Re: the Wickham/Rhodes argument, I believe that Roy Keane felt that it would be difficult to offer both of them 1st team Football this season & that it was fair to let one of them go to play regularly with another club, he had therefore to make a choice and as good as Jordan is, albeit in the 1st division, I think most people must now appreciate that the Manager almost certainly made the correct choice when deciding to keep Connor.

Just to point out for those who feel we have made no progress we have already got more points at home this season than we did the enirity last, also more points away from home this season than the season before that. Perhaps the average standard of the league has improved?

We just have to face it, there are a lot of people who will just dislike RK for their personal opinion of RK the individual, usually founded on media reports and rarely on facts from the man himself. Thats how we do things in the Uk media, think Beckham, villain to hero after France 98, etc etc etc.....

From a captaincy point of view I think few people question Sir Alex's judgement, so thats probabaly a reasonable benchmark for what most people in the industry think of him as a captain.

From a management point of view, he got Sunderland up from Bottom place in the league to champions, he is also, i believe, building something solid at ITFC which would get us up, and give us a chance of staying there. We are starting to build something, stress, starting, and building, not quick one season promotion behaviour, which i dont think is realistic. Not many of the top managers have taken over a club and built a legacy with no hiccups at the start, not even Sir Alex or Sir Bobby, both had people calling for their heads after 2 and 3 seasons, so RK (at 39 still, so still not exactly old!!) has a way to go, but i am fairly confident he'll do it.....

*Cue the we hate RK people who will never serve up a rational or founded argument.....*

keanoblindfaith, i have not jumped on the band wagon, i have suprted royston from the start, he proved his worth at sunderland, a squad relegated with sr players was not performing until he took ove and he won the championship with them, our team may have a few(3) loan players, and the ginger one has been awesome for us, in a bad season, but keae has to start somewhere and he started rough nd ready, all the comings and goings are bound to upset the balance of things, but he is now getting it right, next season wil be the test, if we had got rid of robson after his bad start, where would such a great clup be now, so i think you wil find time is of the essence, and if those robson haters had got there way i wonder what team we would all love, cos without history a team is just a team and doesnt allow you to live the dream, xx
