Bruce and Leicester Lose
Bruce and Leicester Lose
Thursday, 13th May 2010 08:50

On-loan defender Alex Bruce played the full 120 minutes last night as his Leicester side lost their play-off semi-final against Cardiff City on penalties after extra-time.

Bruce tripped Michael Chopra to give away the 69th minute penalty which led to the Bluebirds making the scoreline 3-3 on aggregate with no further goals in normal or extra-time. The Welshmen won the shoot-out 4-3.

The 25-year-old, who is contracted to the Blues until 2011, says he is unsure what his future holds having spent the second half of the season on loan at the Walkers Stadium.

Liam Trotter is the only other Town loanee in play-off action with Millwall facing Huddersfield — including Jordan Rhodes and Gary Roberts — in the first leg in West Yorkshire on Saturday.

What a stupid penalty to throw it all away for Leicester!

Same old Bruce I'm afraid. Reckless tackles let him down and suggestions on here yesterday suggesting he could replace MaCauley are ludicrous.

Poor tackle by a poor player. Even if McAuley does leave there surely are better players out there looking for a decent club who can perform better than Bruce

That tackle said it all. Awful penalty and at a crucial stage.

shocking tackle.
he clearly won't be loved or signed by leicester and shouldn't be seen as the "answer" here.

get rid for whatever fee we can.

Harsh comments for a player who gave us a lot of effort.

Not quite up to the grade, and I think he suffers from being a bit too short to be a CB, and a bit too slow to be a FB. He should find a championship club somewhere though.

Good luck Brucey.

I REALLY hope Blackpool beat Cardiff. If not... there go our chances of signing Chopra!!!

Bruce was always committed and hard-working for us, but did not have the height to be a top centre back in my opinion. A decent squad player perhaps, but with Smith and Eastman showing more promise then we can let Bruce go.

He makes the odd good last-ditch tackle, but when you've got no positional sense or pace I guess thats all you can do. He also clearly has a vastly over-inflated opinion of himself and is a complete mercenary who just looks after number 1. If we can get any kind of fee for him we should jump at it, players like Bruce are not good for team morale and Smith and Eastman are plenty good enough as backup options at least.

I do like Bruce as a player and was hoping for him to stay with us but after his performance last night i'm not so sure. I put him at fault for two of the goals. It'd be interesting to see where he'd be playing and what interest he'd have should he not be the son of one of the best defenders of all time. I reckon League 1 would be about his level. Shame though cos I do like the guy

I was impressed with AB when he first arrived, showing great enthusiasm and commitment, but I have to say that his antics over the past few seasons have not impressed me. He was talking to the media far too much last year regarding his lack of playing time, wanting a new contract, threatening to leave etc when he should have been concentrating on his game. He cannot play with McAuley, hasn't developed as a player and it would be sensible for him to move on. Unfortunately, last night's performance (at fault for the first goal and then gave away a needless penalty) will not have made a good impression on any watching scouts/managers.

You don't want a diver, but if you're old enough to remember, we had Eric Gates, who could have won many Olympic medals in that field, not to mention David Johnson. Both had very successful spells with us.
