Lisbie Fancies Millwall Switch
Lisbie Fancies Millwall Switch

Striker Kevin Lisbie has confirmed that he is training with Town’s youth players, as reported by TWTD a week ago. Lisbie, who has a year left on his Blues deal, looks certain to leave Portman Road this summer and says he would be interested in joining Millwall.

Lisbie said: “I’ve been told to train with the youth boys, although the manager has told me it’s nothing personal.

“I’m clearly not going to play at Ipswich and the manager has told me that if any club comes in for me then he’ll let me know.”

Millwall boss Kenny Jackett is considering a move for the 31-year-old and the switch would appeal to the former Jamaica international: “I’d definitely be interesting in going to Millwall — it’s a great club. Obviously they are in London and that’s an attraction so, all in all, I’d have no problems in moving there.”

Even the booing he received while playing against the Lions for Colchester last season doesn’t put him off: “Obviously they know me from Charlton and I’m sure they wouldn’t boo me if they didn’t think I was a good player! I just took it at face value and I’ve got no problem with that — it’s all part of the game.”

Meanwhile, Southampton midfielder Simon Gillett, who was interesting Town, has joined his former loan side Doncaster after his release by the Saints. The 24-year-old has signed a two-year deal.

Ex-Town midfielder Sammy Moore is on trial at AFC Wimbledon, although he could still stay with his current club Dover Athletic.

I don't like lisbie one bit but keane putting him in the reserves is petty and quite offensive to a professional tbh

Look, everyone knows the "Town's worst striker" argument begins and ends with Gerry Creaney.

It's a bit harsh to pick Earl Jean, who only played about 20 minutes' first-team football.

Adrian Paz had a bit of pace and like all South Americans was difficult to knock of the ball and had good ball control skills. The problem was we bought him thinking he was going to do a centre forwards job which he couldn't do. If we had pushed him wide right I think he could have done a lot better.

Interestingly when we bought Paz we also got Taricco. I remember Burley making him train with the youth team. Fortunaltey for us Taricco pulled his socks up, worked hard and became the best defender in the league. Can't see Lisbie responding in that way!

Worst Striker - Lee Chapman. OK in his day but that was well before we got him. Did bring Leslie Ash to the ground though.

I've just realised that the original article here was actually a misprint. It should have read: "Lisbie fancies Millwall's Witch"... when questioned on this Phil Ham was reported to have replied "It's only Lisbie for god's sake, who gives a ..." Phil, a father figure to many, (although he does claim it is spiritual rather than paternal and the CSA can go take a running jump!) admitted that the missing apostrophe had caused a few misunderstandings in his time, but he was only a reporter, so how the hell should he know the rules for apostrophe use. Phil has subsequently confirmed that after extensive research into the “Millwall Witch” (Five minutes on Google) it turns out she is a blue and white Witch, aged 76, who has a striking resemblance to Nanny McPhee. She is reputed to be the inspiration to Barry Fry's (Then Manager of Birmingham) urination in all 4 corners of St Andrews to reduce the club curse. She is often seen squatting in the corners at the New Den muttering and chanting nonsense involving “nobody likes us, everybody hates us, going down the garden to eat worms...” but no conclusive evidence has been found as to what she does whilst squatting mainly due to her long black dress and the distraction of waving her broom around her head whilst chanting. Given her age it often takes her until the beginning of the following game to get down to the next corner, never letting her make all 4 corners before a game.
Given her advancing years and McPhee looks, Phil did ask Lisbie to qualify his statement about fancying her and Lisbie was reported to reply: “No not in that way, I'm a family man you know... I just meant I reckon I could beat her in a foot race, that's all... but of course given that she is much older than me, she would need to give me a bit of a head start, which is only fair as I remember when I was a kid, you always got a head start against your older brother...” Phil then asked if Lisbie was hoping to sign for Millwall in the coming months to which Lisbie replied... “I'll sign for anyone, Millwall, Grays reserves, even Man City as I hear they are signing a few at the moment, but I won't commit to that signing and move closer to the club, because my wife won't let me”

Just thought I'd clarify...

Having seen Lisbie at various stages in his career his coming to Town was the main reason I had for magic to go ! Lisbie has never been a player worth having , in anything other than a pub side , as he is too self centred and not sufficiently team orientated ! Why not just pay him off and be rid of the guy ?
