Norris: Hyam Not Overawed By Step Up
Norris: Hyam Not Overawed By Step Up
Tuesday, 20th Jul 2010 15:28

Midfielder David Norris says youngster Luke Hyam doesn’t look out of place amongst his senior colleagues. The 18-year-old impressed when coming off the bench at PSV on Saturday, taking up the holding midfield role.

Norris, the Blues skipper at the Philips Stadion, says Hyam, who is yet to make his competitive first team debut, hasn’t appeared overawed when joining in with the senior squad: “He’s a quietly confident lad. He gets on with it, keeps himself to himself, but he’s a good lad, a good pro and even when he trains with us he’s never fazed, never looks like it bothers him too much, he just gets on with it and does a good job.”

Hyam has an aggressive side to his game, something which was evident on Saturday when a tackle angered some of the PSV players and drew a booking from the referee. Norris says he is well aware of Hyam’s solid challenges: “I’ve been on the receiving end of some of them in training, so I know he’s a hard tackler. He did what I thought was a great tackle at PSV, just a good, hard, solid tackle and that’s what he’s about.”

The former Northgate High School pupil is likely to be involved in the friendlies against West Ham and Spurs and will probably make his competitive senior bow in the Carling Cup tie at Exeter on August 10th.

Definately a 'character' that Keano will like. Someone needs to fill the Thetis type role if Bruce is on his way out.

Looks a great tallent, tick in the box. Now is the time to step up with OG looking to be outbound and holes everywhere in the squad.

maybe RK has more faith in the youth than we think?

good to see a young gun coming through the ranks its like a new signing. i don't know about anybody else but norris is doing a lot of talking recently
is this an indication to him being full time captain and walters leaving??
roy has said he admires norris's attitude.

bedsitfc - It was all said by Norris in one interview and Mr Ham is just letting some out little at a time so we have some news to dribble over.

@BseaBlue Thetis certainly was a character! This report sums him up perfectly I think:

And I for one welcome Mr Ham's policy of feeding us a slow trickle of extracts from the Norris interview! Much better than going days without anything newsworthy. Keep them coming Phil!

Well done LH! Keep it up and win a place in the team!

Whatever about Hyam I hope Norris takes a step up and gets the finger out,he looked more than overawed last season and has yet to show us on a regular basis why we even bought him.Less chat Davey boy and do the business on the field.Hes always in the paper saying this that and the other and should look at himself first,a touch of Clinton Morrisson about him.Knows it all yet cant cut it himself.

He's one of those players that seems to get good reviews in the youth and reserves. In defensive midfield he's unlikely to be noticed as much as more attacking players but he certainly seems to be a hard worker. Still not sure what's going on with his sun tan, it looks like he fell asleep in the sun with a goatee and then promptly shaved.

Might have to be a useful squad member this season. With no signings there will be a lot of room for lasts years ressies to step up!

Not covinced that this will get us promoted, however neither did spunking millions on certain players either!

Funny how since Royle left this is the first time we seem to have had any real talent coming through. Yes I know they'll have been in the youth set up during Magiltons time here, but suddenly the Ipwich way of bringing through a good crop of young players seems to be back and that if you ask me has to be down to Keanes coaching/management abilities in that he's now responsible for their development and that's exactly what these kids are doing. Developing!

It would be great to see another academy product in the first team. Hyam, Norris and Leadbitter would be a feisty trio if Keane opts for 4-3-3!!! I understand Hyam is a good passer too, which is a bonus, as this is probably Norris' biggest weakness. As the squad stands I can see Hyam (or Garvs if he stays) playing with Leadbitter and Norris in the engine room, with Walters, Wickham and either Martin or Civelli on the left of a three man attack.
