O'Dea Out of Irish Squad
O'Dea Out of Irish Squad
Monday, 6th Sep 2010 11:56

Loan defender Darren O’Dea has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad due to his knee injury and has returned to Portman Road. The Celtic man picked up the knock in training last Tuesday.

After initial fears that the injury could be serious, it was eventually diagnosed as a sprain and O’Dea made the trip to Armenia for Friday’s Euro 2012 qualifier but was not considered fit enough for inclusion on the bench.

The 23-year-old trained back in Dublin yesterday but was subsequently withdrawn from the squad which plays Andorra in another qualifier on Tuesday.

Shane O’Connor, like O’Dea a left-back, withdrew from the Irish U21 squad over the weekend due to a hamstring problem.

Summer signing Mark Kennedy is closing in on a return from his hamstring injury and could be involved in Wednesday's reserve game against Oxford United at Portman Road (KO 2pm)

So now we have no left backs .. Well that's great why wasn't he withdrawn from the squad last week as he was clearly never going to play a part

Agree with you Ozzy - he should never have travelled. Will need the best side we can get Saturday with Pompey fielding 5 new signings - just hope they don't gel but will take a point now.

ee eye, ee eye, ee eye oh!
Into the transfer market we go... this and the rightback area needs cover in my opinion.
I think its great to have got where we are with what we've got but the bench looks like a school trip and I think Keano will be a busy man starting tomorrow (I think thats when the loan window opens....)
Three points from Pompey and then I would snap an arm off if offered 4 points from the next two big games! And if we get those in the bag... Onward we march and hopefully Upward too!

I am suprised at comments saying a point at pompey would be good?? they are bottom and we need promotion, only three points here will surfice ambition.

cant see we need another left back BloooCD we have O'Connor, O Dea and Kennedy - none of which are seriously injured. He has the best part of a week to rest it, probably just a precuation anyways. Right back i agree need cover. also agree we need three points - five new players really should take time to bed in, ours took most of last season!

Agree with the above two comments and am looking for 7 from the next 9 and then 4 from the following two aways.
Or am I being greedy?

With Brian Murphy not involved on the international scene this week, surely he must be in line to replace Marton Fulop againt Portsmouth. I think he has been away with Hungary, travelling all over the place. He did not appear to clever when he came charing off his line against Palace when they scored. He also had a few dodgy moments against Bristol.

Change the keeper when we haven't lost a game all season! Don't be crazy, thats part of the reason we did so poor last year

this is what happens when you 'reduce the wagebill' at the cost of dismantling the whole squad, most likely ME's fault who knows.

Yes i hope we get a win at pompey, and it shouldn't be that
long before we start getting our injured players back.

@radiohead. Fullop had a faultless display against Bristol City. Can't recall a single mistake.

Here's hoping O'Dea is fine for Saturday, he has settled in well since being down with us.

COYB - 3 Points @ Pompey Please.
