Livermore Disappointed Not to Pick Up Point
Livermore Disappointed Not to Pick Up Point
Monday, 18th Oct 2010 09:09

Loan midfielder Jake Livermore felt Town might have got a point from Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Coventry despite another slow start. The Spurs man went close to opening his Blues goals account in the first half soon after the Sky Blues had gone in front.

Livermore said: “I think we got off to a slow start but I still think we feel hard done by in not taking a point from the game. We’re disappointed to have lost because of two goals from set pieces.”

The 20-year-old says he is settling into life at Portman Road: “I got my first 90 minutes last week and I feel we’re building a good relationship as a team, but it was disappointing we couldn’t get a result.

“I don’t always think it’s formations or strategies, it’s just the 11 players out there and their will to win. I don’t think we were out of the blocks until the second half when we started to pass it around well and were a bit more like Ipswich Town.

“I think the main thing was silly mistakes at set pieces and not getting off to a good start. I think there’s a lot of quality in the squad, young boys and a bit of experience, it’s a good mix. The club can go places, which is why we’re disappointed with these little results.”

Livermore was disappointed that his first half strike flew narrowly wide: “It looked to be going in until it took a deflection but you don’t get a goal for just missing the post. We didn’t even get a corner, which was even worse!”

no Jake we did not deserve to get a point, in fact we deserved to be 3-0 down at half time. Saying you think we deserved a point worries me - our players need to look at themselves and admit they were simply not good enough and have to be better! Ok better second half but you cannot win a game of football by playing well for a short period of time, its a 90 minute game and if the opposition play for 90 mins they will beat us, simple as!

bluelady, where does it say in this article that he thought we deserved a point? He said he's disappointed and feels hard done by, which does not necessarily mean the players think they deserved a point. They probably feel hard done by in terms of their luck, like livermores shot deflecting wide, etc.

"I still think we feel hard done by in not taking a point from the game". Pretty much the same as saying he thought we deserved a point isn't it? Some of you would argue black is white.

Blue92 think SouperJim answered your question...... how about the Luck of Kennedys clear and ball in the penalty area in first half being missed by Ref, or the Coventry goal that wasnt given as 'not over the line'. Honestly i am not one of the boo supporters, i love my team and want them to do well, BUT articles like this do not help. We did not lose on bad luck we lost because we were the 2nd best team for a majority of the game. When we got the ball down and played we looked a totally differant side and one that Coventry and any other Champ team will fear, but one up front hoof ball will not install fear in anyone.

Apart from the penalty, all the chances in the 2nd half were for us.

Olimar thats because we finally had 2 then 3 up front! if we had started the game like that dont doubt we would have won. Also think the midfield needs to push forward, if Keane insists on a 451 it has to be an attack minded midfield.

Blue92 even on'' hard lucks '' we lost,Coventry were unlucky .Whilst all teams need a bit of luck ,they should play to win without it, we didnt, at least first half.

Oli a decent second half and a single goal isn't enough when the damage has already been done. I seem to remember them hitting the woodwork twice and having an earlier cast iron penalty for handball not given by the inept officials. I'm not wishing us ill, but if we had sneaked a point it would have been papering over the cracks. If we are going to persist in playing 4-5-1 at home, serious work needs to done to ensure we're not so frustratingly defensive that what posession we do have in good areas gets routinely wasted.

We need to be realistic; firstly we are not an awful side and we could quite as easy go on a winning run as much as we could a losing one. But what is not in doubt is Saturday was very poor. First half in particular was dreadful. Although the last 20 minutes was okay, as bluelady points out we could have been 3 or 4 down at the break. They should have had a penalty, McAuley pulled off an outstanding saving lunge and they hit the bar. Second half we probably edged but gave away a sloppy penalty and then they hit the post. We can't play well for 20 minutes, give the opposition a two goal start and expect to win or even draw.

However, as I have said on another thread - we have seen more positive than negative performances this year, so hopefully this was a blip and we can bounce back tomorrow. However our record against Watford is woeful in recent years so not that hopeful TBH.
