Clegg: Keane Under No Further Pressure
Clegg: Keane Under No Further Pressure
Thursday, 18th Nov 2010 18:32

Chief executive Simon Clegg says Town boss Roy Keane is not under any greater pressure in the wake of Saturday’s home defeat to Barnsley and the crowd’s reaction to the performance.

Clegg, speaking in an interview with Radio Suffolk, said: "The manager is not under any further pressure from me or the owner at this moment in time.

"We are committed to Roy, Roy is leading this football club, he is taking us to where we want to get to. We're three points away from being fourth place in the Championship.

"And we're the only non-Premier League side through to the quarter-finals of the League Cup. If you had offered us that back in August people would have bitten your hand off."

Meanwhile, Keane has criticised last week’s booing and the cheering of Barnsley passes: “We can’t kid ourselves that if we’re not performing we’re going to get criticised, but there’s got to be a balance to that of what’s right and what’s wrong, and what happened last week was wrong.”

Further comment from Keane on Barnsley and fans’ reaction to that game tomorrow.

Hampshireblue;
I'm assuming that you live in Hampshire and don't get to see many games, so don't actually realise the standard of football being served up at P.R. these days.
Walking to the ground last saturday, I said to my dad that I'd settle for 1-0, as long as we see some decent football for a change.
WAS OBVIOUSLY ASKING FAR TOO MUCH !!
And as for you criticising those who booed our own team and cheered barnsley, you and all the others can keep your blue tinted glasses wearing, narrow minded opinions to yourself !!
If people want to their criticism of the team/manager then they have every right to ! Up the Town !

hilarious comments. Where would we be without such great supporters. You have cheered me up and made me laugh. I thought the games v burnley, bristol, cardiff, leeds and millwall were excellent. Key players to come back and we will be fine. Great to see so many kids coming through as well.

"Keane under no pressure!!" What a bloody joke! he should be being put under the "utmost" pressure!! We are pathetic, & when Keane does finally get the boot, lets hope Clegg follows him out of the door....

"Under no further pressure from me or the owner" could mean Keane is already under a great deal of pressure.
The saddest and most concerning part of the team for me is not the table position but the poor standard of football that is produced each game, even games that have been won.
As a season ticket holder for many years I will continue to support ITFC; I do feel that supporters have a right to express their concerns and frustrations; some matches 90 minutes has seemed a very long time to sit and watch a team of poor ability performing (or not performing) if this is going in the desired direction like someone else suggested maybe we have boarded the wrong bus!!

Whymark - you couldnt be more wrong. Living in Hampshire does not preclude me from attending many games. I am entitled to my opinions, and will continue to support Town, not the opposition.

oh good Mr Clegg well perhaps when Keane goes you might go with him, i honestly think the fans are going to have to perform some kind of rebellion here to remove the idiots at this club!
Do not Boo for the sake of it , be honest and if our team plays and we look like a championship outfit with ambition then by all means support your club BUT if we look as dire once again then i will BOO Keane and now this idiot Clegg. Keane and Clegg OUT!
Keane and Clegg OUT!

lunatic38-
if you get your way- where would the club go? All the players we now have suit Keanes style of play. We would need money for a completely new team. The players we have suit long ball football. Players that like passing (Garvan,Wright etc) have long gone.
townboy-the only pressure he is under is from the fans. the league position and cup results do not put him under pressure

As an aside, I had a brief chat with an ITFC reserve player on the train yesterday (he was in tracksuit and sitting next to me, and opposite a couple of other guys who turned out to be supporters who were also chatting). Very interesting that the attitude of the players to supporters is that first and foremost they want to prove the fans wrong, secondly the word "tossers" was used as the general feeling towards the local fans, and third he wasn't aware of anything other than support and admiration for Keane within the club. Once the team kickoff they know that they have a tendency to forget the fact they they have the ability to pass, and panic a little under the spotlight. The fear of failure is greater than the desire to succeed. A long ball 'gets rid' rather than risking shorter passing.

I know he won't say anything that might be put on the record, but he was a younger player who (whilst showing off a little bit!) was just chatting informally.

Read into it what you will :)

Lets hope a new manger gets the team playing decent football with what he has got because as i have stated i supported keane and give him a chance but the chance has been used and we are still watching complete rubbish compounded now by very bad descisions from the idiot we call manager and now i am saying if there is not a change we could soon be staring at another relagation battle, be honest man ignore everything but the football and come to a descision! All this sh7te about everything i have read is no good once you see ITFC play , Portman road is dying with the sh7t being played. I keep reading atmosphere this that and the other and every comments that away supporters are louder and better thats because usually there team are winning nad or are better!
Keane out!
