Clegg: Keane Under No Further Pressure
Clegg: Keane Under No Further Pressure
Thursday, 18th Nov 2010 18:32

Chief executive Simon Clegg says Town boss Roy Keane is not under any greater pressure in the wake of Saturday’s home defeat to Barnsley and the crowd’s reaction to the performance.

Clegg, speaking in an interview with Radio Suffolk, said: "The manager is not under any further pressure from me or the owner at this moment in time.

"We are committed to Roy, Roy is leading this football club, he is taking us to where we want to get to. We're three points away from being fourth place in the Championship.

"And we're the only non-Premier League side through to the quarter-finals of the League Cup. If you had offered us that back in August people would have bitten your hand off."

Meanwhile, Keane has criticised last week’s booing and the cheering of Barnsley passes: “We can’t kid ourselves that if we’re not performing we’re going to get criticised, but there’s got to be a balance to that of what’s right and what’s wrong, and what happened last week was wrong.”

Further comment from Keane on Barnsley and fans’ reaction to that game tomorrow.

That's pathetic. No added pressure? Clegg is a fcukn idiot! If we play poorly with these next two away games and don't pick any points then this clown show has got to end.

Oh dear ... this does not inspire confidence! What exactly does this man have to do to get sacked? In any other job, he'd be long gone by now!! And in an ideal world, Mr Clegg would go too!! It's depressing at PR right now, the empty seats, the negative, boring football, and the unbelievable arrogance of the manager!! He obviously has no time or respect for the fans ... but then, what would i know?

The whole point missed by the club again. We could be top of the table with our four centre half, hoof the ball, hope for a one nil victory tactics and things would still be bad. The history, ethics and morals of this famous family club are being raped by the current regime. Please can Marcus Evans do one, we'll go into administration, take the ten point penalty and then come out of the other side a proper football club again.

I'll have to try that at work tomorrow then, under perform, put things in the wrong place, criticise those that pay me, send my colleagues to sleep, make my team look like they don't know what there doing and then blame it on our younger staff because they are not experienced enough.

Lets see if I get their backing???

Clegg? Sounds more like Foggy to me ....

Keane out (always, as they say on the telly)

Just shows how clueless Clegg is when it comes to football. It's a crying shame that he can't tell the difference between the beautiful game and the most boring, uninspiring football played by an Ipswich team in my time as a season ticket holder (over 40 years).
And as for Zola, or Curbishley, I'd sooner see Poyet and Taricco. But I doubt that they would meet Clegg's main objective i.e. bring maximum publicity to a backdrop of Marcus Evans logos.

I wonder if a certain Martin O'Neal would be interested.

Are we not mirroring England at the moment?

seems to be about 70/30 out/in at the moment!

Clegg did say: "The manager is not under any further pressure from me or the owner at this moment in time."

The time of the utterance being (Thu 18th Nov 2010 18:32), so don't get upset folks he might have changed his views by now.

People what yopu don't understand is Clegg is on the Payroll to ensure ME gets his nose in the Olympic trough; that is also why sheepy is still Chairman so ME can get the world cup ticketing through the FA if we get the nod from Fifa.

Cleggy knows nothing about running a football club and Sheepy knows only a fraction more

As always interesting wording from Clegg. Keane is not under any FURTHER pressure from me or the owner at the moment. You could read from that, that he is already under a lot of pressure to succeed. If results and performances continue in the same manner as Barnsley/Derby for much longer, then pressure will surely build to such an extent that to not change the manager will only damage the club further? I just hope Keane can turn it around and get us winning matches and playing attacking football....although I also hope to win the lottery and that ain't going to happen!!

If Clegg and Evans are happy with where Keane's taking us then God help us.

You idiots are destroying everything special about our club.

When Keane does eventually get the boot (a week monday i'm guessing) i'd love nothing more than to see the totally inept Clegg off our wage bill too...talk about getting paid money for old rope.

Zola's a nice guy and i'd prefer him here than the current idiot but he's not the answer...it's A L A N C U R B I S H L E Y marcus...how much clearer do you need it spelling out?!

"We are committed to Roy, Roy is leading this football club, he is taking us to where we want to get to."
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...Crowds under 18,000; the worst football I've witnessed at Portman Road for years; unprecedented crowd unrest; the atmosphere of a morgue; nervous players; aimless hoof-ball and making Barnsley look like Brazil... If Roy is taking us where we want to go then stop the bloody bus, because we weren't told that this was the ride he was going to take us on.

Spot on BlueChick, ME only got Clegg into sell his Olympic Packages. He talks well but knows nothing about football. Keane and Clegg must both get on well together. For those who think we are close to the top 6, that is a joke as we are in a false position and have been all season. With the football we have seen this season or lack of it we deserve to be in the bottom 6.
Although ME has saved the club with his takeover, he is so far away from seeing what the fans think. At the end of the day he is only using Ipswich Town as a means of selling his company image and ticketing. With RK in charge he is always getting interviewed by the press and television getting the Evans name over to the public. We miss a David Sheepshanks, for whatever he did at least he was close to the fans. KEANE OUT

Over the last 2 weeks or so the tide seems to have turned. The Keane Inners were taunting the Outers up 'till then.

This is Ipswich and I believe Keane's contract should be honoured.

However, I'm proud that Town fans are demanding better football. The fact that we are not far off play off positions seems irrelevant.

Decent football is what the people want.

Is it too much to ask for a bit of entertainment at portman road????

Ever since ME arrived the value for money has got worse and worse, I've had enough of it, I would rather still be watching our shoestring squad with gary roberts and counago than keanes team of centre backs and midfielders.

svendust that was a good team, i tell you we would be a lot better off with players like pablo in the team, better than wickham

hampshire blue mentioned that were wanting instant success, id simply settle for some decent football for years ive renewed my season ticket on the basis that whatever our league position ill at least get value for money by watching decent passing football, under keane im pretty sure most season ticket holders would agree that the football has not been decent value for money and if the unthinkable happens and keane is here next year then i will definitely not renew! Not because i love my club any less or am disloyal in any way, just that i expect value for money especially when money has become increasingly difficult to get!

I saw Keano on the side of the a14, he got pulled over by the police for speeding, he'll do anything at the minute to get 3 points.

Evans gave Magilton approx 18 months..he has now given Keane 19 months...anyone think we've actually gone forwards in that time?..I don't.

We're in a similar position (just outside the play-offs) but the standard of football has gone so far backwards..at least Magilton tried getting us playing the right way (and don't anyone dare say he didn't - I can remember a lot of good games under Jim,barely one under Keane).

Shows how bad things are when we're looking back fondly at the days when Gary Roberts was in the team but I can remember the likes of him,Alan Lee & Pablo taking a few teams apart 3 or 4 years ago...I really fear for us at Carrow Road.

Most depressing reading all these comments ive had to resort to the wine. Let me cheer you all up. You will all be so much happier after we have collected 3 points off of Hull and even happier still when we come out of Carrow Road with another 3 points. By the way, don't forget to make sure you are all free on the 27th February as there is a trip to Wembley to fit in.

Keano, Keano.

Completely valueless story - Clegg is not going to say anything else. Can't really imagine any club board(or member) ever saying' Oh, that last result has put our manager under increased pressure'.

Every board backs the manager until the day they sack him.

I like Mr Clegg "only three points off a play off place" (that doesn't mean we'd get promoted!!) BUT more importantly we are only seven points above a relegation place. In a league where anyone can beat anyone on a given day & the fact we are playing hoof-ball, I wouldn't say any of us would have 'taken that' Mr Clegg at the start of the season.
Go spin your spin elsewhere Mr Clegg I for one am fed up with your corporate speak clap trap!!!
