Fallon Signs on Loan
Thursday, 25th Nov 2010 12:44

Town have confirmed that striker Rory Fallon has signed on loan from Plymouth Argyle with a view to a permanent switch. The 28-year-old, a New Zealand team-mate of Blues defender Tommy Smith, with be at Portman Road until January 22nd.

The frontman will train with the squad on Friday and could make his Town debut when the Blues travel to Norwich for Sunday's East Anglian derby.

Argyle boss Peter Reid says the move could become a full-time switch: "I've decided to let Rory go out with a view to a permanent move when the transfer window kicks in in January.

"We'll be actively seeking a replacement but I was pleased with the way Rory Patterson has been playing and I've got Joe Mason as well.

"It's a great opportunity for the boy and I'm sure he'll thrive in the Championship environment."

Fallon started in youth football with North Shore United in his home country before joining Barnsley as a 17-year-old. The 6ft 3in tall frontman has subsequently played for Shrewsbury (loan), Swindon, Yeovil (loan) and Swansea before signing for the Pilgrims for £300,000 in January 2007.

The one-time England U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 international target man - he reverted to playing for New Zealand in 2009 - has scored 19 goals in 84 starts and 57 sub appearances for Argyle.

For New Zealand he has scored three goals in 10 games and played in all three matches at the World Cup in South Africa, having netted the goal which secured qualification via a 1-0 play-off second leg victory over Bahrain.

Wasnt the goal he scored for New Zealand against Baihran or some other poor footballing nation??

Ebanks-Blake had 1 good season for Wolves and still has age on his side, Rory Fallon is 28 and hasnt ever really made a massive impression playing in the championship.

This to me seems like a desperation signing, Keane is looking for a target man which is fair enough as none of our so called "big" strikers can jump let alone win a header, i just dont think he's going to have much of an impact but i could be wrong

With a view to a permanent deal, that probably means Conner is going in the January transfer window then!

FFS everyone was whingeing when Town were after expensive Prem cast-offs "why don't we go for hungry lower-league players on less money". Now we do and everyone's moaning "I thought we were going for someone like Chopra".

Make up your minds - or do you just like moaning?

Has he been signed to keep Tommy Smith company like the Fulop signing ? Only reason i can see for it although would match Keanes very limited tactics of kick it forward hard and high . Good luck Mr Fallon and welcome to Ipswich

Crack82: "Scotland must be fed up of getting balls hoofed to him with no-one to help out". Doesn't Fallon count as someone who could help Scotland out?

Maybe this is a sign that Keane is finally going to play 2 up front, with Fallon flicking on long-balls and playing Scotland in on goal. Starting off with a hat-trick on Sunday would be nice!

Roy Keane is also a devout christian so what he probably need most of all at the moment is some devine intervention and Rory is ya man!

Spot on Phoenix. Jordan Rhodes has scored consistently for Huddersfield and has a better record than Rory Fallon. However lets not judge Rory until we see him play. Let's see the 2 new boys play at Naridge on sunday. Something to freshen up the team perhaps

My worry is, why would a striker want to come here at present? It's such a lonely place to come - what with all your team mates being at least 30 yards away and all that.

Superblues9 wise up. If he is capable of holding the ball up this is something we desperately need. Give the guy a chance.

Don't know enough about him to comment, although the comments about Plymouth fans laughing doesn't bode well. But sometimes these lower key signings turn out to be the best. I'm getting optimistic in my old age. :-)

This is just a shambles..... Roman Bednar goes to Leciester and we get rory fallon. Ive had it with Keane and I can only hope this is the nail in the coffin!

I have supported Keane for God knows how long, but this is the final straw.... Shocking.....!

This signing is just a little bizarre in my opinion! ha ha! But hey ho, more options I suppose - But surely we have better in Priskin and Wickham? and... if we could pass the ball on the deck Scotland ain't bad... Typically bizarre old Keano!

Fallon - average League One player. Wasn't Jordan Rhodes up for a return or is he too expensive now?

Blueulster added 15:03 - Nov 25
Superblues9 I agree that this is not the ideal signing but I can only presume Tommy Smith would have spoken with Keane about this guy and if Tommy, who would have trainined with him many times, thought he was crap not even Keane would be stupid enough to sign him up. Lets wait and see.
