Delaney in Reserves Facing Luton
Delaney in Reserves Facing Luton
Tuesday, 7th Dec 2010 00:52

Central defender Damien Delaney will be in the reserves side taking on Luton at Playford Road this afternoon (KO 1pm). The Irishman was left out of the Town 18 for Saturday’s home defeat to Swansea having been available after his one-match ban.

Luciano Civelli, Shane O'Connor, Colin Healy, Tom Eastman and Ronan Murray are also in Chris Kiwomya’s squad.

Towards the end of last week manager Roy Keane said striker Connor Wickham might be fit enough to be involved after his thigh injury.

The game was originally down to be played at Barton Rovers’ Sharpenhoe Road before being moved to the Blues’ training ground last week.

Town currently sit in fifth in the Totesport.com Football Combination East Division, having won only one league game this season.

Is or has Delaney been injured? Seems strange to risk him in a reserve game before a big game against Preston if he is only lacking a little match fitness. Hope he comes through unscathed

More like hes in the naughty corner after that howler against Norwich. He is not suited to play on the right at CB as he is so left footed. Even so , if he has been punished , its pathetic. As for o connor not playing again , or being sent to Hereford, whats all that about ? Good player, About the best we have at LB. kennedy is all washed up and too old , May never make the team again as so injury prone.

Talk about teachers pets, some players are consistently awful yet get picked week after week others like dellaney have a bas game or two and they are in the naughty corner, what can that do for moral? He and brown at centre back would work fine both playing on their correct side!! What must o Connor think an aging injury prone left back being preferred to him? That said I do rate o dea but feel his head has been elsewhere lately understandably.

I fear Mr Delaney is another who could be cast aside a la Rosenior and Wright.
Yes he was crap at Norwich and his attitude looked suspect but everyone has a bad game. He was excelleent last year but is this another player to be discarded - I hope not.

Should have played on saturday, he would have added some valuable experience to the back four.

Easy to say all this with hindsight, Smith deserved to keep his place after WBA and he knows he cocked up. Brown looked superb against Swansea until the capitulation, Delaney and Brown against Preston! And Civelli!

It was right to give Smith and Brown their chance Saturday, but surely Delaney should have been on the substitute's bench?! I agree it seems a bit like a punishment to exclude him and now play him in this reserves fixtures. After a shaky start because Keane played him at left-back (what is this obsession with centre-backs at left back?!), Delaney has done a decent job for this club.

Whats all this 'naughty corner' and 'he's out of favour' rubbish. Some of you read far to much into things.

JetaimePeters - I would be reluctant to call any of the defending on show saturday as superb!

I smell a bust-up. Won't be back in the team until Keane is sacked. Put money on it!

Lost 2-1 and we was poor.

SO'C was pretty good, was quick and sharp, and wanted the ball which is good to see.

Civelli looked lost much of the time, but had a few nice touches. Played the 90 but was blowing hard at the end.

Healey tried but just does not have it. Hung on to the ball to long. Tried to boss the game but he is far from Zidane.

No one else stood out. Chris Kywom was getting a tad frustrated, KEANE NOT THERE.
