Keane: So Many Errors Led to Coventry Goal
Keane: So Many Errors Led to Coventry Goal
Monday, 3rd Jan 2011 08:48

Town manager Roy Keane felt a number of players were at fault for Coventry’s goal during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Ricoh Arena. Keeper Keiren Westwood’s long kick found Marlon King on the edge of the Blues’ box, the striker — later sent off — finding fellow frontman Freddy Eastwood, who slammed home.

Keane said disappointment didn’t adequately describe his feelings: “I could think of a stronger word than disappointed. It’s not as if we didn’t discuss it before the game. I was here on Tuesday and a lot of their attacking play came through their goalkeeper.

“You’ve got strikers to try and stop the keeper kicking it, you’ve got two centre-halves and you’ve got a keeper to try and keep the ball out, and none of them did their jobs.”

The Blues boss was similarly unhappy with his side’s continuing lack of goals: “The hardest part of the game is putting the ball in the back of the net, but we haven’t got six strikers like Cardiff, Forest and teams like that, experienced strikers. We’re bringing young boys off the bench in Connor, who has just come back from injury, and young Ronan, who got a good shot away.

“But we still had the best chance of the game in the second half [when Jack Colback shot wide] and sometimes that’s all you get away from home. Don’t think we’re going to be getting four or five clear-cut chances because even with 10 men we still had the same problems with Coventry as we had when they had 11 because they’re solid and well organised.

“You have to be clever with your play in and around the box and one or two of our players didn’t take responsibility - we were passing sideways and backwards when we could have been a bit braver.

“You need to be clinical and you need to put the ball in the back of the net. Jack should have scored, Ronan’s shot got a deflection, Jason Scotland’s got to be sharper with his touch in the box. We’ve got to be more clever, more cunning.”

Meanwhile, former Blue Mark Venus has had two of his medals stolen from his home in Edinburgh. Venus’s Championship winners medal from the 2007/08 season when he was assistant to Tony Mowbray at West Brom and his Division Three winners medal from 1989/90 during his time with Wolves went missing last Wednesday.

I think town need to be creative, passing and movement then the clinical will fit in fine.

Think won't happen under RK Lump and bump football.

Putting the ball in the net is not hard if the team likes the system

I'm sorry to hear about Venus hope he gets the medals returned

"A lot of attcking paly came through there goalkeeper" sign him up and play him upfront .
"sometimes you only get one chance away from home" the idiot it,s because you play non creative football, no width, not sure what combination of strikers, doe,snt rate players like Civelli because he might be too creative and create yes a "goal" get this man out of out club and quick useless clueless idiot!!!

Restrictions? He is doing what he wants and how he wants. It shows on the pitch. Joe Royle had restrictions in players, bosses and lack of money, but at least we played football the right way and were always good for a goal.

I don't want town playing division 1 football next year!

If we were more positive and scored goals the odd blip at the back would only get a passing mention. If we were pressing Coventry instead of being defensive then the long kick would have bounced harmlessly through to Fullup with the backline near the halfway line. Everyone but RK to blame as always. FORK.

I don't want to be watching League 1 football next year, but Col U maybe more entertaining than watching Ipswich Town under Keane!

Ok so let me get this right, Keane blames: GK Fulop, DEF Mcauley, DEF Smith, MID Colback, STR Scotland, STR Fallon, STR Murray, for either not scoring or not doing enough to prevent Coventry scoring?......... No wonder morale is so low in the squad, there probably all S**t scared of making an error!?!?!?

We may joke; but League 1 is beckoning. Under this regime we are closer to going down than going up. I would ask everyone to look at where we are; everyone wants to feed off the promises given us when this circus came into Town. I really do despair now. This is from a supporter for more than 50 years. This is as bad as I can imagine.

Please can someone give me a vibe that will make me feel better going into the new year.

Best wishes to all ITFC supporters for the New Yew Year.

Clearly RK has not changed his reasoning in this New Year, he still blames everyone else apart from? ...... RK ..... he still blames, the players, (who he got into the club), seems he is moaning at ME for not suggesting money is available ...... mind you, RK has not picked on the fans recently ......... obvioulsy RK did not get a mirror for Christmas, otherwise he would see the problem

If RK is unhappy with certain aspects of the performances then perhaps he should work on these in training? I honestly don't know what they do on the training pitch because we seem to be 2nd best in pretty much every area I can think of and its not always down to a lack of ability or effort...
