Blackburn Terminate Chimbonda's Contract
Blackburn Terminate Chimbonda's Contract
Thursday, 20th Jan 2011 18:21

Blackburn Rovers have terminated Town target Pascal Chimbonda’s contract with immediate effect. The former Wigan man’s Ewood Park deal was due to end in the summer.

The Blues and QPR are both understood to be chasing the 31-year-old, with the Championship leaders previously having been reported to be offering £500,000 for the right-back, leading to speculation that Town could offer a similar fee, something which would be unnecessary now that he is a free agent.

Chimbonda's agent Willie McKay says there are several interested parties: "Pascal is looking for a new club and he has a number of options he is considering.

"Pascal is disappointed at how things have ended up at Blackburn as he could have signed a long-term deal at West Ham in the last transfer window.

"Pascal is ready for a new challenge and he is prepared to sign a short-term deal until June to get back playing again.

"Pascal is a great free transfer as he can play anywhere across the back and has a wealth of experience having played in the Premier League for five seasons."

Earlier this afternoon, Paul Jewell, who brought Chimbonda into English football when Wigan boss, confirmed that he had made an enquiry regarding the former French international: “I’ve made lots of phone calls and I’ve spoken to [Blackburn manager] Steve Kean about a couple of things and Pascal’s name did come up in conversation, but to see in the paper that we’ve bid £500,000 is complete nonsense.

“I just asked generally about what would be available. I’ve made lots of phone calls, as I’ve had lots of phone calls.

“I asked him what the situation is and he said he’d think about it. Whether Pascal Chimbonda is part of his plans, I don’t 100% know. I’ll leave that to Steve.”

Chimbonda is evidently not in Kean’s plans and a switch to the Blues, QPR or another unnamed interested party looks likely in the days to come.

CHIMBONDA is a trouble maker, he refused to train with Wigan so e could get his move to spurs. This headline dosent suprise me, the guy is disruptive

I think this would be a good signing for FREE!

Yes there are concerns about attitude but we clearly need some full backs

We are 19th in the league so we have to take what we can get.

Clegg/Evans controlling the purse strings carefully is not a bad thing. How short are the memories of fans? Massive wages paid with no relgation clause, Finidi/Sereni of more than others. Discontentment & administration.......

Don't forget if Evans goes then we are deep in the s**t once more

Must say, not that impressed with him being linked with us.
Surely there's got to be better out there !!

First of all it was mutual consent which suggest he has an eye on a fat signing of fee somewhere. Hence both parties agree a nominal amount to allow him to walk.
Secondly no player is free these day 'no transfer fee - large signing on fee and large weekly wage!'
He may be a short term fix and yes we do have problems but he is a problem. He would probably be one of the highest paid player at club, not worth that.
Medium to long term I would rather see younger, hungrier players who dont attract large contracts and then sit back and chill because they 'have made it'. Plenty of clubs working that model with success, just look at Leeds, learnt their lesson.

He does have a rather disruptive history so I would take him with a pinch of salt. He will do for now but some younger players will be needed in august so we can have that long term player to try and get us into the premier league. Right back is our weakest position so we should address it now with chimbonda and then a younger player at the end of the season.

One final stumbling block to all this, - Clegg.
Sounds really good situation for us. Chimbonda has done everything so far towards joining us, we now need to pay his wages.
Dig deep ME and Clegg, we need a solid right back. Teams all season have exploited this weakness.
Maybe a French midfielder to help with Chimbonda settling in?

why won't Chimbonda sign for us katemoss? he loved jewell and played with passion under him, he is used to hutchings too. feel he is another 'pampered' superstar who will upset our team however. super tommy eastman is pure class and should stay at full back with peters in reserve. don't sign chimbonda, bring in a few players from league 2 who would rather die than see our beloved club go down. chimbonda won't stay with us in league 1,of that i am sure. can't see how this guy will get in the team with eastman and peters ahead of him anyway.

he won't sign for town. no-one signs for town.
anyway, do we need him?

stiffshorts,- maybe he won't sign but there's no doubt we need him. Peters is great going forwards but often leaves the defence hopelessly exposed, could do with a solid right back. He has played for France afterall so should cope at PR. 31 is still ok for a fullback. His signing could (hopefully) open the doors for others to join.

How bizarre is that. Must be something severely wrong. With a contract he's worth £'s to Blackburn, as it is he's afree agent - some dodgy deal I'll bet
