Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks Thursday, 27th Jan 2011 16:32
Swindon boss Danny Wilson has confirmed that Robins striker Charlie Austin has been at Portman Road today holding talks with the Blues, as reported by TWTD earlier this afternoon. Town and the Wiltshire club have agreed a fee for the 21-year-old believed to be somewhere between £1.5 million and £2 million, including the usual appearance and achievement clauses.
Wilson said: "We've had a bid accepted from them and we've given Charlie permission to talk to Ipswich. What the outcome at this moment in time is I don't know. He's down there at the moment.
"It could be an all day job, it could be tomorrow, it might not happen at all and in a selfish way I hope it doesn't.
"But I can't really see that happening. Particularly now with the transfer window closing, clubs are now looking to get the player they've been tracking for most of the season.
"If Charlie does go, then we'll wish him all the best because he's exceeded everyone's expectations and has done fantastically well for us."
Blackpool are also believed to have made a bid, while Southampton and Burnley have been linked but Town are so far the only club whose offer has been accepted.
We understand Town have offered Austin a three-and-a-half-year contract at Portman Road.

Signn him upp! Quickly....... Would be a fantastic addition. Also hope that jewell can sign a fullback, even if its on loan (ryan taylor has only started once this season!!) Although his wages would be pretty high would improve us defensivly and going forward would provide fantastic delivery to the likes of Priskin, wickham, (Austin?!) COYB!

For a long time on this website I and other have been asking why Ipswich don't sign Charlie Austin and now it looks like we really might! This and the link to the Luton lad shows that Ipswich finally are no longer blind to the lower leagues like we seem to have been during the whole of the last regime. Jimmy Bullard too is a very exciting signing, with his creativity and set pieces added to Austin's goal scoring and surrounded by rejuvinated players under Jewell we really could have an exciting team to watch very soon. For me, Paul Jewell could not be any better!

I think he is the best striker outside the championship, and at only 21 will get better each season. The boy scores goals everywhere he has played in his short career, he has progressivily moved up through the levels of amature and lower proffesional football each season and has scored plenty of goals every season. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Austin

looks a really good signing. Can he step up. My guess is that PJ and Duncan wouldn't have signed him on a chance but time will tell. Time for all of us to get behind the team and keep their heads up.

Hi All, I am new to this forum, and this would be a great signing if all goes well and with the introduction of Jimmy Bullard loan signing looks promising. I think town needs to be playing more passing and creative attacking football and need to say stop with this long ball stuff LOL. But the good thing is that PJ talks a lot of sense and true to his word is going to turn this club around for the best. COYB and down with the NCFC booooo
