Swindon boss Danny Wilson has confirmed that Robins striker Charlie Austin has been at Portman Road today holding talks with the Blues, as reported by TWTD earlier this afternoon. Town and the Wiltshire club have agreed a fee for the 21-year-old believed to be somewhere between £1.5 million and £2 million, including the usual appearance and achievement clauses.

Wilson said: "We've had a bid accepted from them and we've given Charlie permission to talk to Ipswich. What the outcome at this moment in time is I don't know. He's down there at the moment.

"It could be an all day job, it could be tomorrow, it might not happen at all and in a selfish way I hope it doesn't.

"But I can't really see that happening. Particularly now with the transfer window closing, clubs are now looking to get the player they've been tracking for most of the season.

"If Charlie does go, then we'll wish him all the best because he's exceeded everyone's expectations and has done fantastically well for us."

Blackpool are also believed to have made a bid, while Southampton and Burnley have been linked but Town are so far the only club whose offer has been accepted.

We understand Town have offered Austin a three-and-a-half-year contract at Portman Road.

Mark added 17:31 - Jan 27 For a long time on this website I and other have been asking why Ipswich don't sign Charlie Austin and now it looks like we really might! This and the link to the Luton lad shows that Ipswich finally are no longer blind to the lower leagues like we seem to have been during the whole of the last regime. Jimmy Bullard too is a very exciting signing, with his creativity and set pieces added to Austin's goal scoring and surrounded by rejuvinated players under Jewell we really could have an exciting team to watch very soon. For me, Paul Jewell could not be any better!
