Austin Agrees Burnley Deal - Reports
Austin Agrees Burnley Deal - Reports
Friday, 28th Jan 2011 12:16

Town target Charlie Austin is widely reported to have agreed to join Burnley on a three-and-a-half-year deal, subject to a medical. The Swindon striker was at Portman Road for talks yesterday but was unable to agree terms with the Blues.

The Clarets matched Town’s offer — reported to be anywhere from £1.2 million to £2 million - and were given permission to speak to the 21-year-old, who travelled to Turf Moor this morning.

Blackpool and Southampton were also chasing the former Poole Town man but failed to agree a price with the Robins.

Very disappointing because there has been such a long period of nothing to get excited about .......... BUT the 'hype' is mostly self-genreated by us - (in my humble opinion of course).

People on here amaze me sometimes - make wild speculation , think we should just drop our pants and pay players what they want ...
Clegg knows nothing about football .. blah , blah - how many chairman do ??
People need to get in the 'real world ' unfortunately , footballers and agents dont live in the real world ( and neither it seems to some supporters)

Imagine - You are good at your job - you have a chance to move to two companies - one is doing much better -one is paying X and one pays X plus , plus PLUS you know the boss guy
Where will u go - Of course we all love our club and believe we have a great new manager , exciting times ahead , great facilities etc etc but live in the real world a young kid will go for the money AND SO WOULD YOU

I expect PJ is even more Pi**ed off than we are, having almost got his man, for the management to fail to tie it up. This sounds just like what happened to RK whenever he tried to tie up a deal. Very short sighted by Clueless and Evans. The boy would have made them a lot of money.

Evans needs the fans money as part of what he puts into the club. By constantly failing with contracts whilst still having 20k a week to spend on a player we don't own so wont ever make money on. The fans are rightfully worried, Evans would surely understand if the fans think the club is being poorly managed off the pitch chances are fans will no longer renew season tickets or by new shirts etc so he will be loosing out on vast sums of income. At the moment without those out of contract in the summer our team would look pretty shocking at this level - if people are finding things financially tight their ipswich season ticket to watch that kind of team will be 1st on the savings list

Would one of the Clegg Haters care to come on and explain to us all how Clegg single-handedly managed to mess up the Austin signing? - I'd be fascinated.

How about a last minute bid with and improved offer, before he signs on the dotted line?

Just spoken to a customer in Swindon who said.... Ipswich have missed out big time, he is a natural goalscorer and given the right training would end up in the Premier League. Looks like it was all down to money in the end, but would love to have been a fly on the wall when he was being sold the club by Cleggy. Was Paul Jewell involved in the final talks do we know ?

We've got Wickham & Priskin and we'll be fine..... and for feck sake everyone stop moaning when NONE of you know the facts, slagging off Clegg is pointless anyway, the club rightly has a pay limit, otherwise this small Suffolk town club would be in the High Court facing a winding up order like Plymouth or Portsmouth etc....!!

WE STILL HAVE CONNOR WICKHAM! Who would you rather have? better service = more chances = more goals.
CLEGG _ surrely you have no credibility left. You have been used by a 21 year old to up hi salary at his intended club

Charlie Austin is a boy. He likes clubs and girls.

Like it or not East Anglia and the South West peninsula are never likely to attract this type of lad.

I personally think that our association with tractors is a bad thing, even though it's just a joke.

Think about it, when Charlie meets up with some of his mates from Poole in the summer, how many of them would make annoying tractor gags every time he turns up in his BMW or Audi if he'd signed for us.

Suffolk is agricultural but that's not cool to any one who doesn't wet themselves with excitement at the thought of the Suffolk Show.

Drop the tractors.

I personally think Evans has alot to answer for as well, Cleggs hands are tied by him I'm guessing. Considering the amount of money Evans has put in though to bail us out of our debts we cant really complain about him. I would like Evans to deal with things himself more and have advice from a director of football who actually knows something about the football transfer system.
You wouldn't get an electrician to do your plumbing would you?

Another in a long line of signing failures.

At the very least Clegg and Evans owe the fans an explanation of what is going wrong. The apparent lack of ambition is worrying to say the least and I would like to know just what the hell the long term plan here is - if in fact there is one!

Get real everyone

Burnley have their Premier Parachute money so they can throw money at Austin. Dont forget he was at Poole town not that long ago, if he is giving it billy big time and demanding 20 grand a week then its a massive gamble, lets be honest about this, they guy may well not nail it at championship level.

So i think people should do themselves a favour and wait until deals are finalised rather than getting excited at prospects!!

All I can say is that Clegg is a waste of space. He comes over as someone who watched his first football game when he took over the Chairmanship of Ipswich Town. The guy is totally out of his depth and now we know why Keane kept failing in his attempts to get players. If Marcus Evans was prepared to cough up close to two million for this kid, then why did the deal not go through? I will tell you why. You only have to listen to Clegg to quickly realise he knows nothing about football. Go now Clegg you are completely useless!

My best mates, dad's cousins', best friend is a rubbish collector and he says he just saw Sneijder walking into the main gates at Town. Deal done apparently.

We are paying 40% of his 45k a week salary according to Hull. Thats not far off 20k a week - 18k methinks

@classyipswichlass - well I don't know the John Deere D350 twin power shaft is pretty cool, can hardly say Burnley is the Mecca of the north but then MADchester isn't far away!

Pessimistic its nothing to do with football....the agents negotiate and it's purely about money & Evans will have set a ceiling in negotiations for wages...end of!!

Charlie Austin is a boy who's going to be very rich now. He'll want to spend his money on girls, booze and nice clothes.

First of all Paul jewell could be excellent in the transfer Market but if the deals don't get done it doesn't matter how good he is.
Second, any club can bid for a player to look good to the fans and then blame other parties for not concluding the deals.
Under the new regime at PR all transfers are long drawn out matters which mainly never amount to anything more than just bluff and bluster!
Also 21 players out of contract, manager sacked in transfer window means less time for new targets under PJ , ticket prices too high (real reason for poor numbers) has there been any progress made in the last few years since we now have financial security?
S clegg is used to working to a tight budget and is not the right man for football if promotion is your main aim.
If we can't sign a lower league player then the omens just don't look good for the future , like I said before same sh*t different day !
But hey what do I know apart from knowing a sh*t load about football and being a fan of this once great club!
P.s have the community ties the club used to have been improved after the junior blues fiasco ?

casanovacrow- Yes thats what Hull are saying, dont think we are tho, couldnt afford it!! Like you've said in previous posts, we need to sort out Norris and Mcauleys contracts. Jewell is a shrewd man tho, still like what I see, ok we didnt get Austin but he has got an eye for a good player.

a bloody joke..... Clearly there is either a problem with the clubs wage structure or a severe problem with Clegg
