Clegg: Season Ticket Deadline Non-Negotiable
Clegg: Season Ticket Deadline Non-Negotiable
Thursday, 14th Apr 2011 14:51

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has warned that Friday’s early bird season ticket deadline is non-negotiable. Fans wanting to buy season tickets at the cheapest rate have to have their forms handed in by noon tomorrow.

Clegg said: “We are being quite specific and there will be no exceptions. After that the early bird discounts will not be applicably.

“The Ticket Office is quite positive about the response we have received and it is work in progress with a lot of late applications coming in.”

Clegg says that he hopes fans will see Town challenging nearer the top of the table next season: “I see no reason why Ipswich cannot be where Norwich are now in 12 months’ time.

“Since Paul Jewell came in as manager we have averaged 1.65 points a game against 1.10 previously and this bodes well for the future.”

The Blues chief executive says contract negotiations continue with "seven or eight" and admits that matters are taking longer than anticipated: “It’s taking slightly longer than we hoped. We need to know to prepare for next season.

"Paul is very clear he's not going to be held to ransom by any player. He is heavily involved in determining the level we make on the contract negotiations.

"He recognises, like myself, we have the responsibility to run this club within a budget that is acceptable to the owner."

Town have 14,300 season ticket holders for the current season.

Clegg : tough on the support, and tough on the causes of support .... we're so lucky to have him.

if we knew we had Bullard, Norris, Mcauley,Delaney for next year, we'd have atleast 15,000+.

i know prices around the country are higher, but anything more than £20 a game to watch Town is a rip off.

And it was actually 1.17 points per game under Keane, this season.

Considering Marcus Evans is the countries biggest ticket tout, he's not very good at selling ITFC ones...

Didn't renew last year, want to renew now Keane has gone, I've had nothing through the post encouraging me to go. Thing is I want a season ticket but can't down there till monday, If I had known sooner would have been down to get one. Not paying £100 extra, why do they do this? pointless. Need make the gate price cheaper to, be £30 next season, gates will get smaller. 23000 on Saturday and 17000 on tuesday, says it all. More people in the ground will bring in more cash, drinks programs etc. The scums tickets alot cheaper.

"I see no reason why Ipswich cannot be where Norwich are now in 12 months"

- I can, its called geography, and we'd then be called Norwich. Only good point is that we'd push the city north into the sea!

The only thing that will fill the stadium is results. Doesn't matter if they only sell 10,000 season tickets, if we're top or nearly top by Christmas, there will be at least 20,000 plus in the stadium & 25,000 plus by easter 2012. I've already sent my renewal in, but you can understand why some people are slow to renew when we've been disappointed year after year.

As you obviously have access to a computer, you must have known at least a couple of weeks ago that season tickets were on sale and what the deadline was. This is exactly why the club have put a deadline on the early bird price with no exceptions as loads of people come up with all sorts of excuses why they did not get in ahead of the deadline and hope to still get the lower price at a later date.

quite right Clegg, did mine last week, what's the problem you lot. you don't even have to pay yet, just get the forms filled in and post.

I live in the States, so this doesn't affect me. Nonetheless as a plc shareholder and former long-time season ticket holder, his attitude sucks. It seems they'll give a manager (Keane) at least half a season more than he deserved to put things right, but hard-up fans don't get any second chances. Clegg simply doesn't know how to deal with the fans at all - in Sheepy's time they were always extending the deadline. SC is in the same league as Keane's management skills .i.e. way out of his depth.

blueblood66 - you need to remember that with the high prices of tickets and the cost of living rising so steeply, many fans really struggle to juggle their financial priorities. The more time the club gives them, the better informed they become. Let's not also forget that season ticket sales have only been this early for a few years - that decision was made in a much more favourable economic climate. I'd say the club really needs to think about this whole issue more than it apparently is willing to. A PR disaster, yet again.

This comes across very poorly from Clegg. This is not some sort of army exercise, he is dealing with fans now who pay an awful lot of money to come to watch Ipswich and he should make those fans feel valued and appreciated. What does it matter to the club if a few applications arrive a bit late, is it really in anyone's interests to return these applications and deny fans season tickets? I posted my application back the day after I got it, but I know many supporters are less organised and have other priorities and they should not be penalised for the sake of a day or two. Why be so inflexible? The money is taken over the course of a few months anyway using the Direct Debit scheme!!!

ITFC: please show fans more respect and do all you can to sell season tickets. Encourage lapsed fans to return and do all you can to encourage people to buy season tickets. Why not write to everyone who hasn't renewed to give them a reminder and extend the deadline by a week? If it sells tickets, it fills seats and brings in money!!

Agree with so many of the comments re Clegg. He does not seem to understand that the club has to SELL the tickets. Its not like the Olympics where its not restricted to fans of a certain club. And his comments are like a headmaster ticking off a child for being late.

What a load of bxxxocks. If you pay by direct debit, no interest, first payment May, last payment December. So no need to pay all the money up front ahead of the start of the season!!

What is all the moaning about. If you want a season ticket, buy one, if you don't stop moaning.

Trust PJ to bring good football and results to PR in the 2011/12 season.

Spot on Mr Clegg. Have not got a problem with the man. Does things how they should be done.

Get real some of you and stop the childish moaning and groaning.

I dont know why people are getting so annoyed about it, if you havent sorted out your season ticket by the deadline then its your own fault, if the last few weeks hasnt gien you enough encoragment to renew then you probably never will.

I think most people who have decided to renew/or not have done so by now so those who are moaning have probably have decided by now anyway so why all the fuss?
