Norris Talks Continue

Boss Paul Jewell says he spoke to skipper David Norris regarding his new contract again yesterday, having talked to his agent last week. The Blues manager says the club is continuing to work on securing the 30-year-old's signature.

Jewell said: “I spoke to Chuck’s agent on Thursday and I spoke to Chuck yesterday and we’re trying to get something done.

“If we can, great, if we can’t, then at the end of the day this football club will still be here long after I’ve gone and anyone else has gone. But saying that we want to keep them here, are desperate to keep them here.

“However, if we don’t, we’ll have to learn from our mistakes - we’ve left ourselves vulnerable to this situation.”

Like Gareth McAuley, who has now agreed terms but not yet signed, Norris turned down a contract before Christmas as he wanted a three-year deal not the two seasons on offer.

Portsmouth and Crystal Palace targeted the midfielder in January and Pompey and a number of other Championship clubs are believed to be interested in signing the former Plymouth man in the summer when he becomes a free agent.

I'm not the biggest fan of Norris as a footballer (effort over skill) and I'm not sure there's space for him in a 4-4-2

Welcome one and all to the Norris Knocker's Notice board. What is it with some of you guys? We all agree he isn't perhaps the ultimate football player, but, just take a moment to think of what he has brought to the team this term [ even through the bad times ], and surely you must agree, he is an integral part of a team which is basically getting better by the week, don't start rocking the boat now !

On balance Norris has been a solid, if unspectacular performer for Town. He usually gives his all, although in the Norwich game he was poor. If he decides to stay I see him as a squad member for next season. I would like PJ to try him out as a striker playing behind Connor Wickham. He might be a 15 goal a season player in that role. Otherwise, if staying in midfield, I think he should relinquish the captaincy because I fail to see adequate on-the-field leadership.
