Town Linked With Belgian Midfielder Thursday, 19th May 2011 10:14
Town are targeting Belgian international midfielder Faris Haroun, according to reports in his home country. The 25-year-old is currently with Germinal Beerschot but the Antwerp-based top flight side are looking to offload some of their higher earners this summer.
Fellow Belgians Zulte Waregem are also believed to be interested in the Brussels-born player, who scored five goals in 28 matches during 2010/11.
Haroun, who also holds a Chadian passport, played youth football with RSD Jette and RWD Molenbeek but began his professional career with KRC Genk, making his senior bow in the 2003/04 season.
The 6ft 2in tall midfielder, who is reportedly keen on a move to England, joined his current club ahead of the 2008/09 season, having been a member of Belgium’s Olympic side in Beijing, where he narrowly missed out on a medal. The U23 team, which also included Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen and Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, lost the third/fourth play-off to Brazil.
Haroun has been capped six times by his country at full level and has a year remaining on his Germinal Beerschot contract.
Town are known to be eyeing the Belgian market with a scout reported to have watched the recent Anderlecht-Club Brugge clash.
Meanwhile, Porto manager Andre Villas-Boas paid tribute to former Blues boss Sir Bobby Robson after his side's 1-0 Europa League final victory over Braga last night: "I dedicate this win to my technical staff, the players of Porto and the supporters. But I'd like to pay a complement to Pep Guardiola, which might come as a surprise, and to Jose Mourinho.
"He [Mourinho] introduced me to professional football, and I'd like to dedicate this to him. And to someone who has already left us, but was decisive in my career: Sir Bobby Robson. I never had the opportunity to say farewell to him. I'd like to dedicate this to him and his wife, Elsie, and thank him for everything he's done for me.
"Bobby allowed a 16-year-old to approach him and talk about football tactics with him. Then he took me to training, watching training sessions. He had that respect for a young boy who had just approached him in an apartment block in Porto.''
Legendary Blues manager Robson was Porto boss between 1994 and 1996.

Linked with this player, Linked with that player, blah blah blah.................Its all rather boring. We had all this rubbish last season and ended up with Scotland!! When a player is holding an ITFC shirt up and has signed on the dotted line is the time to get excited. Rumours............ zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
will there ever again be such a great man in english football . forget the trophys just be proud we had such a great humane and admired person from all over the planet standing at portman road full of pride for his baby as he called it . what a man what a legend .
Agree with Legend, this transfer rumour merry-go-round is already wearing thin, I'll be happier when these so called targets turn into signed Town players. Then hopefully, they will be of a quality worth getting excited about!!
Why is everyone so negative that we are being linked with players? - You would all be moaning if we weren't being linked with any, and you moan when we are linked with some. - It's a no win situation for Jewell and ITFC!!!
Support the manager and club and be pleased that we are being linked with players, I know we probably wont sign all of them, but speculation never hurt anyone. I know we've also all been disappointed with being linked with players in the past and not eventually signing them, but this is a new era for town under Big Fat Paul!! - Who knows what's going to happen!!
my admiration for Andre Villas-Boas is at a all time high. It just shows what a wonderfull man Sir Bobby was and how much he meant to so many people in football.. a True Town Legend, for ever in our hearts!
I dont get you fans, if we wasnt being linked with players and not making offers i would be asking questions. Im glad we are being linked with international footballers and the top championship players. The season ended for us a week or 2 ago, this is game of patience and skill. PJ clearly wont be held to ransome, and the moves will be calculated and not rash signings like so many of his predecessors.
Not entirely sure how people here expect the summer to go. We won't sing anyone without there being a link first, so by definition being linked with players is a good thing.
Obviously, we want to actually sign someone too, but it's very early days. There's been hardly any movement in the transfer market yet so why is everyone already getting bored of it?
The premier league hasn't even finished yet, and the play-offs haven't happened. Who stays up and goes up and who goes down could make a big difference to some of he players we'll be trying to attract (eg. Bullard, Sharp), so doubt we'll see anything happen until at least then.
If we're still in the same position come august then I'll be happy to hear some moaning.
Really glad to hear this news, seems really left field and clear evidence that our net has significantly widened when looking for players. Keep the links coming, would rather that than the thought of us adding no one at all!!
Don't know anything about this guy except he's quite popular with his fans. The only video I could find was this (and all it is is a song...a bad one at that..)
You all moan when we're not being linked with anyone , then moan when we are?? Come on let's keep the faith PJ has a good previous record in the transfer market, lets just hope Mr Clegg has more joy closing some of these deals!
Although I am pleased to see all these 'links' to players I would feel happier when we finally sign a quality striker. One good signing would encourage similar quality to join us. I'm sure PJ is working hard to make this happen and I am confident he will find us someone better than Scotland. Although my cat would probably be better than Scotland :-)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan. Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Make a well in the center and add sugar, oil, eggs and vanilla. Mix with wooden spoon until smooth. Stir in carrots, coconut, walnuts and pineapple. Pour into 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. Don't panic, the center will sink a little. Allow to cool. To make the frosting: Cream the butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add the confectioners sugar and beat until creamy.
