Magilton Linked With Watford Job
Magilton Linked With Watford Job
Monday, 20th Jun 2011 17:30

Jim Magilton has become the second former Town manager to be linked with the vacant boss’s job at Watford. Magilton, 42, has been out of work since leaving QPR in December 2009.

Over the weekend, Roy Keane, whose Suffolk home is up for sale, was claimed to be in the frame for the role vacated by Malky Mackay when he joined Cardiff last week.

Meanwhile, Magilton’s former Portman Road team-mate Tommy Miller has been offered a contract by Blue Square Bet Premier side Gateshead. Miller was released by Sheffield Wednesday at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old has previously been mentioned in connection with his former club Hartlepool, while other clubs at League One level are also likely to be interested.

No matter what our point of view the fact remains that Jim is a real character and Town (and Norn Iron) Legend, so would be good to see him back in management. I think he could be interesting for Watford as there would be a lot less pressure than he had ay Ipswich & QPR.

They were both tactically inept managers that took our great club backwards. Watford, go for someone with more nous than either of these two.

JM will always be a town legend in my books for that hat trick, i know his efforts as manager were in the last season and a half futile, however i will always will jim well i hope he gets the job!

I always felt that Jim made that step into management a bit too high and would have benefitted from spending a few years experience lower down the leagues. I seem to recall that there was an opportunity to be player / manager at Oxford when he retired which would have suited. Let's face it if he had done well there the clamour to get him in here would have been irresistable.

Anyway, Jim and only a handfull of other players have actually had any passion and love for this club ( Wilnis, Bam Bam) and i wholeheartedly wish Jim the best.

I remember watching Jim in pre season games as a manager. He would spend alot of time coaching and directing the younger players on the pitch which was great to see. He had great passion and I think players like Owen Garvan learned alot from him. I think he would make an excellent coach and in time an excellent manager.
One of the issues he had a town was making the move from player to manager. This was also tough on the players to see their former colleague and friend as their manager & boss. I remember there were a few issues with discipline from a group of players. Considering he had no previous management exp I think he did a very good job for Ipswich.

Best of luck Jim at Watford

broomfield123: are you really suggesting that we should forget the past history of the club? Don't be so ridiculous. In just the same way that we hark back to the Robson and Burley eras we should be allowed to hark back to others too. People still talk about he john Duncan years. It's not about getting over it, its about football. Half of football is remembering the past (both good and bad) and discussing it.

As for Magilton, some people are forgetting that he had a season and a half with zero money to spend, taking on a team that was in serious decline before Marcus Evans came along. In that time he showed some astute transfer dealings and tactical knowledge.

Things went rather downhill when the money arrived though...

Jim was a great player for us, but as a manager was not, was way out of his depth & a cheap option at the time.

it was a great shame that he took the Town job too soon, had he have gone to Oxford (or elsewhere) and learnt his trade he could have done a great job for us, also sadly he had one hand tied behind his back as Klug was never the man for the first team, we should have doubled his pay to stay with the kids.
