Bullard Move Back On?
Bullard Move Back On?
Sunday, 3rd Jul 2011 10:11

Town’s attempt to sign former loanee Jimmy Bullard on a permanent basis could be back on, according to a tabloid report this morning. Manager Paul Jewell previously said that a deal to bring last season’s Player of the Year back from Hull was beyond the Blues but, as predicted by TWTD on Thursday, the large fee received for Connor Wickham may have changed that situation.

Bullard’s future is still understood to be up in the air with the 32-year-old having held talks with QPR earlier this summer but with no deal yet done.

The former Wigan, Peterborough and Fulham man was recently reported to be in talks with Hull regarding a settlement of the remaining two years of his £45,000-a-week contract which makes up 21% of the Tigers’ wage bill.

Hull are desperate to see the one-time England call-up leave on a permanent basis and so far have been unwilling to sanction another loan.

Speaking in mid-June, prior to agreeing the £8.1 million rising to £12 million fee for Connor Wickham with Sunderland, Blues boss Jewell said: “We just can’t afford to pay what Hull want and what Jimmy wants. He’s not just on a Premier League contract, he’s on a top Premier League contract.”

Bullard made 16 appearances for Town, scoring five goals, during a hugely successful loan spell between January and May.

The problem with Jimmy is that he wants a high salary.

I think that at his age and given his current contract, he is almost unemployable.

His package is a Premiership one, but premiership clubs are not going to invest in their KEY player at his age with potential break down. Is there interest from Liverpool, Chelsea, Fulham, West Brom? No.

So, yes, I think that it's a question of Jimmy and Jimmy getting together

GTRKing, you've never heard of Bowyer? That proves how little knowledge you have of the game. Please, for the good of us all, stop posting on these forums. Most of your posts show no sign of any knowledge of grammar or spelling or the language in general either.

Would be very pleased to sign Bullard - but not at the expense of blowing our wage structure out of the water. There are still concerns around Jimmy's fitness - he has had his problems - so putting all our eggs in one basket and blowing a large amount of the Wickham cash would be a mistake IMO. However, if the club, Jimmy and Hull can agree a deal which suits all parties - GREAT! But I wouldn't sign Bowyer as well.

We have to be a bit careful of too many older players, and my mind had moved on from Bullard a long time ago. I don't want us paying much for him, so we should cool our interest. If QPR don't want him and Hull are desparate to get rid, let them come to us and only take him on terms that are affordable for the man who turns 33 in October and has a poor fitness record. His set pieces were fantastic last season, but apparently Cresswell can take free kicks so perhaps that isn't so crucial now either.

Whilst i think Bullard is a good player and helped save us from a relegation fight, I do not think he should be signed as i think he is far too injury prone. Same goes for Dyer. We need to invest the Wickham cash wisely and paying these guys £20,000 a week (A million a year!!) for two year deals is just plain crazy as neither would stay fit.

I would sign Bowyer as the midfield needs some steel. In order to get promoted you need to have a good spine. With Fulop in goal, Ingimarsson and Delaney, Leadbitter and Bowyer, chopra up front the side is coming together. Spend the money on a quality striker, a decent right back and winger.

Would really be pleased if true, but sounds like lazy journalism putting 2+2 together and getting about 70!

I would be extremely happy to see Bullard & Bowyer playing central midfield.

Wouldn'y say no to either Bowyer or Bullard. Personally like the thought of having a touch takling pairing of Leadbitter and Bowyer. The number of games lost last season when we didn't have that steal in the middle of the park... roll on Tuesday and the makings of our next Tractor Boy !

Bullard is looking a bit chubby these days. So is PJ and Scotland. Have some respect for yourselves and stop eating those delicious award winning pies !!!!

I won't hold by breath and the worry with Bullard is that one reckless challenge and the money could easily be wasted. My thoughts are that we will go after Koumas not my choice but a more realistic target. All very interesting and exciting.
