Bullard Move Back On?
Bullard Move Back On?
Sunday, 3rd Jul 2011 10:11

Town’s attempt to sign former loanee Jimmy Bullard on a permanent basis could be back on, according to a tabloid report this morning. Manager Paul Jewell previously said that a deal to bring last season’s Player of the Year back from Hull was beyond the Blues but, as predicted by TWTD on Thursday, the large fee received for Connor Wickham may have changed that situation.

Bullard’s future is still understood to be up in the air with the 32-year-old having held talks with QPR earlier this summer but with no deal yet done.

The former Wigan, Peterborough and Fulham man was recently reported to be in talks with Hull regarding a settlement of the remaining two years of his £45,000-a-week contract which makes up 21% of the Tigers’ wage bill.

Hull are desperate to see the one-time England call-up leave on a permanent basis and so far have been unwilling to sanction another loan.

Speaking in mid-June, prior to agreeing the £8.1 million rising to £12 million fee for Connor Wickham with Sunderland, Blues boss Jewell said: “We just can’t afford to pay what Hull want and what Jimmy wants. He’s not just on a Premier League contract, he’s on a top Premier League contract.”

Bullard made 16 appearances for Town, scoring five goals, during a hugely successful loan spell between January and May.

It would be great to link Bullard and Bowyer in midfield. Sure it would be expensive in terms of wages but it would increase revenue through the turnstiles as well as the knock on effects of increased sales of programmes, catering etc from bigger crowds. Add in shirt sales and other merchandise and it begins to look feasible. ME will underwrite any the costs if it doesn't work, if it does work and we get promotion then it will look like quite a small outlay. Win, win!

Think what we have to be cautious off here is 1. a TABLOID report....and 2. Every paper is now going to be on this as we have money from Wickham we can pay off Hull for his services.

Can we con Hull into taking some of the deadwood like Civelli in part exchange ?? This lame duck Argie is milking his wages for nothing and getting extra holidays because of a volcano. He should have made an effort to get back early and make the tea for the rest of the lads because that's all he is good for !!!

And if he makes the tea, he would probably scald his knee and be out for 3 months. Perhaps he can clean the bog instead.

Would be good but only on our terms as in wage structure.

Not worth paying over too much money. As he is quite injury prone.

However said that about the money side. Promotion would out weigh that.

Bowyers past is simply that, his past, its his future that may concern us. I say may, it could be just paper talk, as may be the Jimmy Bullard story.

Wages always have been and always will be the major stumbling block to us getting Bullard. He seems more interested in the money he's due from Hull as I'm sure he's clever enough to realise he wont command even half of his current wages at another club due to his knee problems.
When fit he would be a star for us but there would always be that worry of 1 tackle putting him out for months.
To take him on would be a massive gamble and I think that would be factored into any bid to Hull and offer to him in terms of wages.
I can only see it happening if he has no-one else willing to offer him more than us and both him and Hull are willing to write off the current contract

Sorry, i cannot get used to ipad please excuse my bad english. Bowyer will be more effective than bullard! To be honest, i would like both, but jimmy should be on 10k a week tops. And youth on wings like cresswell good. But please paul j, give me koumas as well. And the player i love to watch most last year apart from taraabt, peter whittingham.

I must be in a minority of 1 when I say I don't want Bullard back here now. If he really wanted to come he would have taken a wage cut and done it sooner. Don't forget he had ample opportunity on Soccer AM to publicly say he wanted to come to Town and he didn't. You can bet if we buy/sign him it will be a disaster. Let him go to QPR or Narwich or anywhere just not here. Greedy Bugger - and please no one tell me he's just getting the best deal he can. If he wanted to play for us ..........

I agree with a lot of you guys. Bullard was useful last year, but past his best. His career could end in an eyeblink with his knees. I remember how he used to run at wigan, he doe
