Jackett: Town Bid Laughably Low
Jackett: Town Bid Laughably Low
Thursday, 21st Jul 2011 14:21

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett says Town’s valuation of Lions midfielder James Henry was so low that it caused his chairman to laugh. On Tuesday, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that Town had had the second of two offers for the 22-year-old turned down.

Jackett, who feels that selling any of his first teamers would destabilise his squad, told Southwark News: "Ipswich's valuation was very, very low. My chairman was laughing when he heard it."

Millwall are understood to rate the former Reading man in the £2.5 million bracket, while the Blues are likely to have offered at most somewhere around £1 million below that figure.

Having had the second bid turned down, Jewell said the Blues are unlikely to make another offer: ”They’ve told us he’s not for sale. That’s probably dead that one, so we’re looking elsewhere.”

Laughable....bit like our attempt to sign almost everyone we've been linked with.

I wouldn't pay £2.5M for a player I can't even recall seeing play tbh..he's not exactly a household name is he?..some of these championship clubs must think we've got £8.1M to burn.

Whoppit is dead right.
We should be gearing ourselves for a MASSIVE battle against relegation. We have 1 good player (Chopra), 3 average players (Fulop, Carson, Bowyer), and the rest of our team is either poor or dreadful (we have 2 dreadful centrebacks).
The first 2 games of the season will tell us, Bristol City and Hull are both considered bottom-half-of-the-tablers by a respected betting shop beginning with L.
Think we will score a load of goals mind- Chopra might end up with 20.
Battling it out with Derby for last spot, thats my prediction

Just a thought... whoppit and whippet... not a million miles away from each other. Both only ever post negative dribble... I would suggest that they are one and the same and are almost certainly a slightly younger town fan (sub 18) who thinks it is amusing to only post negative comments as it always generates a backlash and winds people up! As you would with a toddler... if you ignore it he/she will get bored... blah blah blah! Just my thoughts.

It's good to see that Millwall are going for eternal renown.
I remember the name Jackett, but his playing history is a bit ephemeral?

I've just found out whoppit was the 2nd gunman on the grassy knol before getting a job as a reporter on notw!!!

I think people need to stop panicking on here, theres no point signing players at inflated prices just for the sake of it. We will NOT be relegation candidates but I do agree more players come in, but the right ones for the right price. Have patience things will come together but it takes time and people need to get real on here coz some of these people on here dont know their football.

Just seen on sky sports news that rotherham have rejected an undisclosed bid for adam le fondre. Paul Jewell said he had bid for another striker, and that we would hear something on thursday.
Le Fondre is a striker and I think today is thursday! I wonder.................

Also just seen on sky sports news the goals from Man Utds friendly against Seattle Sounders, and it doesn't look like Wayne Rooneys hair transplant has worked very well.

People on here need to get real about us being in a relegation battle. If last seasons league table started when pj did, then we would of finished in the top six. Add to the mix that we now have a proven goalscorer (Conner in realality still had loads to prove and I'd rather chops anyday) we now have steel in midfield with bowyer. ingermoson (I realise spelling is incorrect) is in all honesty equal to mccauley when fit. Have no doubt. This team is already better than last years. Top six easy.

Well as long as we can hang on against Cambridge, that's OK then.

It was a pre season game, come on we all know what sort of games they are, certainly not ones to be taken too seriously. We have thrashed teams in pre season in the past and still had poor seasons.

Yeah I know lets compare ourselves with the worst club in country with a catastrophic season coming up based purely on a pre season game at Cambridge!!! Dont get me wrong, um not saying were Barca but were not a cub team either! However, if we have any aspirations of competing this year, we have to make a priority of getting a centre half as I feel were very weak there at the moment.

All these Managers and Club Chairmen try to play crafty games with words in the best interests of their own Club which you cannot blame them for. At the end of the day it also depends on the player - if Henry really wants to come to Ipswich we will be in the frame to get him as an unsettled player is no good to anyone. Sadly not too many players actually want to come to Ipswich unless they are from the lower leagues. I am getting a bit worried now at the lack of depth of our squad and with only a couple of weeks before the big kick off time is running out. Only my opinion but if we start the season with what we have we will struggle so hopefully PJ will strike lucky with 3 or 4 signings and quickly - good luck Paul.

I am sure Paul Jewell has identified the players he thinks will make Town into a competitive team next season. The fact that us "fans" want to sign every player that we are linked with is quite laughable. It takes time to assemble a team together and to have signed five players already this summer is quite pleasing. i also think we will have two new players signed by the end of July and three/four more signed, or on loan, by the end of August. In addition to this we will also have got rid of three or four players as well.
With regards to Whoppit, the chap is entitled to his opinion. The fact that his opinion is different to most supprters on here goes to show he is in the minority. I do not think we will be in a relegation fight, but i don't think we will be in a promotion fight either. Work in progress and if we finish in the top ten playing entertaining football then i for one will be happy.
