Jewell Still Looking for Signings
Jewell Still Looking for Signings

Town boss Paul Jewell says yesterday’s sixth and seventh summer signings don’t mark the end of his search for additions to his squad. Having brought in keeper David Stockdale and striker or midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, the Blues manager says there are further deals in the pipeline.

Speaking after last night’s abandoned game at Colchester, Jewell said: “We are looking for a couple more players, no doubt about that.

“There are things that are ongoing and these things can take time and what we have done well is keep everything quiet. So, hopefully, we can continue to do that.”

Having signed so many players in such a relatively short space of time — seven of yesterday’s starters have joined since he took over as manager - the Liverpudlian says it may take a little while for his team to gel: “At the end of the day, I’ve said before, it’s a long season.

“I’ve been here six or seven months. It’s a big job, it’s not going to happen overnight and I’m sure people know that long-term success will come gradually.

“We can’t go from being one to the other in a short space of time, that’s very difficult to do. But in time we will get it right and that’s the most important thing.”

Striker Nathan Ellington missed last night’s game with a minor shoulder injury but Jewell says the former Wigan man should be back in action in “a couple of days”.

Meanwhile, reports in South Yorkshire claim Sheffield United have dropped striker Ched Evans's price to below £1.5 million in order to remove his £15,000-a-week wage bill from their books.

Blues boss Jewell recently denied making an offer for the Welshman but admitted he was "on the list", however a move for another frontman seems unlikely having added Jay Emmanuel-Thomas to the squad yesterday.

Elsewhere, midfielder Conor Hourihane is expected to play for Plymouth in their home friendly against Truro City this evening. Hourihane, who has a six-month contract with the Blues, is on trial and is looking to win a loan deal with the Pilgrims.

PJ's quite right,it's going to take a bit of time for all these signings to gel..so let's make sure we give him & them time...I think most fans are happy with the job Paul is doing so let's not get on his back if things don't take off straight away.

Good news.

Need a couple of defenders. And a creative midfielder to replace the gap Bullard left.

Ingarmarsson looked ok, communicated well with Miller and Delaney but didn't look commanding a la Jason De Vos, and in fact all the talking was coming from Stockdale.....

I was checking over the PFA transfer list and spotted Lars Jacobsen ??? What you think of him. Looks good for RB position ? ?

Yes we need a decent CB and creative midfielder, but in truth, if Lee Martin and Andy Drury could deliver quality service, we wouldn't be so mad for a creative midfielder. We have decent ball winners in Leadbitter and Bowyer, why can't we use wingers in the old fashion sense like many successful clubs in the past? Tell you why; because Martin is like a schoolboy chasing the ball around the playground, and Drury out of his depth.

IMHO, JET 'could' prove to the be player we need to improve that area of the pitch in front of Edwards. Alternatively, Edwards one side, JET the other, but then we have a right back issue....

I bet Jimmy Jaz will come last day of transfer window on season long loan whilst hull & ipswich sort out a perminant deal for jan transfer window. He will not be playing any games for hull & we pay 2ml+25k aweek & hull pay 2ml to jimmy to get his contract ended there isnt that too hard to do.

Crying out for Bullard! Not particularly thrilled about the prospect of Edwards at right back but I strongly believe Jewell is planning to keep him there rather than just play him there until he gets a replacement. It seems pretty clear they've sorted him out a bit in terms of positioning.

CB please!

As per my previous posting; I was with Sally Webb last night and she told me that any deal bringing Bullard back to PR was dead. She may have been deliberately misleading me, but I felt she was genuine.

I was with Sally Webb the other night and she told me to get a move on because her husband was due back any minute.

London Blue, you are deluded if you believe that Sally Webb would tell you confidential information from within the club. If she did, you are foolish to then publish it as that would leave her somewhat vulnerable.

BlueCuppaTea added 14:36 - Jul 27
I agree 50yearsablue! She'd be very stupid to tell someone confidential info about the club if she values her job in any way! And if you value her friendship LondonBlue you wouldn't be stupid enough to publish info on here naming her as the source. You are putting her job in serious jeopardy if what you say is true. I'm taking it all with a large pinch of salt!

Sally does talk a lot though. Mainly grubby and loud. Not the sort of thing you'd want to see written here with so many teenagers checking in.

i think we should snatch jose fonte from saints good strong defender good in the air to score goals from corners as well

Sally Webb is much more interesting than some Saint who scores.

Is that the Sally Webb that used to live in Felixstowe Road?
