Bullard Set to Finally Leave Hull
Bullard Set to Finally Leave Hull
Wednesday, 10th Aug 2011 09:40

Former Town loanee Jimmy Bullard’s Hull City career looks set to come to an end with the player set to meet with Tigers officials today with a view to settling his £45,000-a-week contract. Last season’s Blues Player of the Year has been suspended by Hull for the last month for an alleged indiscretion during their pre-season trip to Slovenia.

The terms of the expected settlement aren’t known with the Tigers having held a lengthy investigation into the still unclear allegations and with sacking the player reported to be one of the options looked at by the East Yorkshire club.

It’s more likely that Bullard and the club who he joined from Fulham for £5 million in 2009 will agree a pay-off on the two remaining years of his contract.

Whether Bullard’s changed situation will see Town’s interest renewed remains to be seen. Speaking last week, Blues boss Paul Jewell reiterated his earlier comments that a move was beyond the club’s financial capabilities, certainly while the 32-year-old was with Hull: “We’ve spoken to [Hull’s head of football operations] Adam Pearson a number of times over the summer and I’ve spoken to Jimmy.

“It’s something that we would love to have done but financially it’s out of our remit. We’d like to have had Lionel Messi but we couldn’t afford him and I think Jimmy might be on a little bit more money to honest!”

QPR have also been linked, although subsequent reports have claimed their interest has cooled.

Elsewhere, former Blues international scout Simon Hunt is set to be named sporting director at Blackburn Rovers. Ex-Town striker David Lowe joined the coaching staff at Ewood Park earlier in the summer.

I think he would make a great permanent addition but he wont come to us if the premiership clubs start calling wish him all the best no matter where he goes and i'm also happy he wont be playing against us saturday but if he joins the turkeys up the road he should never get a mention in this or any website, or anywhere near portman road again

You are right, as I wouldn't, but then if that is the case you shouldn't make statements about it not being about the money! If he had kept his mouth shut i might have a different feeling toward the guy.

If he's willing to negotiate smaller wages, then by all means sign the man up. If he's available on a free with the contract terms being flexible then I don't see a problem with it.

We do still need a Right Back & another Centre Back but this would give an immense confidence boost to the fans, especially if he could reproduce the form from last season.

Maybe a deal can be rekindled, but how would we fit in Bullard, Bowyer, Leadbitter and Andrews (if he signs) into our central midfield? JET seems to like to play there too in an advanced role if we play a diamond formation.

Centre backs, a right back and a goalkeeper have to be priorities.

This is panning out exactly as expected and as it should do. Jimmy and PJ have stayed relatively quiet about the situation all summer, leaving Hull to do all the panicking. Hull are the ones who need to make a move and it seems that they are now willing to give a settlement of some description!
As i've said on here before, if for example, they gave him a £1m pay-off (5 months salary) that would mean a £1m signing-on fee with £20k a week for 2 years would give him parity with his current contract.
If PJ still wants him, he'd surely be interested in playing (regularly) for a manager who values him and a set of fans who idolise him!
Jimmy and PJ's shrewd handling could save us a wedge!
Of course, I could be completely wrong and he could F Off to the highest payer....hope not!

Its not about the money, yeh right, waited for a pay off and will then go to QPR who as he will be a free will give him nice fat Prem wages, as with all the other greedy Prem players he will go where the money is and that is not ITFC.

I hope to be proved wrong, but think Jimmy will sign for a PL club - although there is no doubt we need a play maker and he would fit the bill.
