Civelli Nets Twice on Libertad Debut
Civelli Nets Twice on Libertad Debut
Tuesday, 16th Aug 2011 07:51

Former Blue Luciano Civelli scored twice on his Libertad debut to help his new side to a 2-1 home victory over Olimpia last night. The Argentinian joined the Paraguayan club after leaving Town by mutual consent at the end of last month.

Olimpia had gone ahead but Civelli got the AsunciĆ³n side back on terms before half-time and netted a stunning second half winner with seconds left on the clock.

Both goals can be viewed here.

It must have been poor opposition, because he never did shine in our reserves.

MJR101 - what would you have suggested we do? We had no choice but to nurse him back to full fitness. No team was going to come in for him while he was injured and we couldn't have released him without a pay off while he was injured. Although I think he could have done a job, Jewell clearly saw him as being surplus to requirements. I'm sure they sounded out a fee but how likely with his injury record? His release has helped to free up wages rather than him warming the bench and getting 10 mins every 5 games.

Why did he never do it for us? Probably because the Championship is the 6th or 7th highest quality league in the world and I dare say a cut above Paraguayan football. I don't think any of us can begrudge him some decent form can we? It's not like it's of any consequence to us. I think all most of us would ask for is a home win.

Excellent, I for one hope he gets his career back on track and starts enjoying football again. Just a shame it never worked out here

Well done Luca, already becoming a fans favorite.

He diddnt really settle in at Ipswich/England, he spent alot of time in the treatment room and back in Argentina recovering. Plus he saw x3 managers and a large turn over of playing/coaching staff during his time. He diddnt get a run in the first team when he was fit. He needed a good run of games to shake the rustiness off.

Best of luck to the lad, he really deserves it!!

Perhaps being happy in your personal life really does affect your game! Well done Luca - shame it didn't work out similarly for ITFC!

Mixed feelings about this really. One hand I wish him all the best and hope it works out for him, on the other hand I've taken my rose tinted glasses off and seen us nurse him back to full health and he go off and crack in a couple of goals for another team on his debut - something we've not seen him do for us. Bit of a shame we paid him so much which on paper was for so little. Understand why but he's become a bit of a cult hero for some reason without actually achieving a great deal. We've wished he'd be the sucess we know he could be but I feel a bit robbed we never got much for our troubles - not his fault about the injury, but would have hoped for more once back to fitness. Bit of a Salt in the wounds job for me really. Happy for him on a personal level though.

He was fit for the whole first half of last season, but Keane made him train with the reserves.

So happy to see him doing this, great goals and looks happy. In the end moving closer to home is what was needed for him. Shame for us because before his injury he was looking very good, but oh well.

Re: YouTube clip, never hear that kind of commentary on Radio Suffolk !

Always hoped that Luca would be a star for us but perhaps arrived at the wrong time in Town's history, good luck to him.

It's a shame that he suffered that horrendous injury after such a promising start. It would have been great to see him become a success in a Town shirt but after his injury it just wasn't to be and I think it will take going back to South American football and playing regularly to rebuild his confidence.

Well done Luca and good luck for the future.

4eva -I would suggest we kept him and made use of his talent! Whose wages have been freed up Ellington? JET? As I said before Hmmm

Very pleased for Luca...he looked very promising for us before that injury...will always remember the thumbs up he gave to the supporters when being stretchered off.
