Kennedy: Players Need to Look at Themselves
Kennedy: Players Need to Look at Themselves
Monday, 22nd Aug 2011 11:37

Mark Kennedy says he and his fellow Town players need to take a “long hard look” at themselves after the Blues’ recent heavy defeats. The former Ireland international apologised to fans for Saturday’s latest thrashing at Peterborough.

Kennedy, a second-half sub at London Road, said: "A club like Ipswich shouldn't be performing like we did at Peterborough and hand on heart that boils down to the players. We all need to have a long hard look at ourselves and start taking responsibility for it.

"It wasn't good enough. We know that, and I think I speak on behalf of the rest of the lads in the dressing room by apologising to the fans and saying that we are determined to get things right."

He added: "Everybody in our dressing room has to appreciate how good our fans are. I've played in teams before where we have been winning at half-time and still been booed off.

“Here the fans have been right behind us in every match and we need to remember just how lucky we are to have fans like that supporting us, and the sooner we realise that, the better.”

Meanwhile, Wolves are the latest club to be linked with a move for Town target Jimmy Bullard, who is expected to become a free agent today after Hull City terminated his contract.

Well said. Give the arm band now. Having a proper leader would be a small first step towards building a proper TEAM.

Make the players visit the fans workplace's.
Stand waiting for the Builders van in the freezing cold in the morning waiting to be picked.
Getting up at 4 a.m to start work in the Factory.
The Hospital staff etc who work long hours.
The list is endless.
Give them an insight into the world that we live in.

Maybe we should have a similar situation we had a few years back, effectively two captains, a club captain (Kennedy, because as good and vocal as he is, age and injury records are not exactly on his side, if he were under around 32 I'd say def captain) and make Andrew team captain or effectively vice captain as he appears to be organized and very vocal too. Magilton had a similar thing going on, De Vos team captain and Naylor club captain I believe.

Perhaps Kennedy as holding midfielder is the way forward.

I would have suggested Andrews but currently I think he is on loan with a view to buy?

I think all the messing about before he joined us was because Blackburn wanted to wait until the transfer window closed and it was pressure from Town that got his early release.

Why dont we try Kennedy alongside Delaney until Inger is fit ,would calm it all down back there a bit and he could pass it out .

Surco72, with all due respect to your formation I never want to see Leadbitter in a town shirt again, wish he'd go to budgie lane and bring them down!!!

Might be a better idea if they took a long hard look at the 180 minutes they played last week...it might sink in if they watch it ten times or so.

i do a line in mirrors if there is a need ,,,,,,,very cheap much cheaper than some of the players the club has purchased who turned out to be just poor reflection of players.

This is why i miss David Norris, he came out and apologized like a true captain, and always put 100% into the game even if he did look a bit like a headless chicken.

bluelady - totally agreed

Jesusstockwell - enquiries@itfc.co.uk

I did it yesterday, if you mark it for his attention they'll have to pass it on.

BuryBlue77 - i couldn't agree more. If Leadbitter ever wears a town shirt again i'll be disgusted. He should be stripped of the armband, dropped and sold in the same week. That's not even a harsh sentence...

He also nearly owed me a new TV too!!

'Thank you for your email. Your comments have been forwarded to the Executive office'
Kind regards

Same here Keanish on both the Leadbitter and tv front! Think Delaney and Smith should also be added to that list, they've contributed hugely to making this club a national laughing stock over the last week and heads should roll. Would me performing this way at work be tolerated? Hell no!

Kennedy should be skipper - he is a leader - you can hear him on the pitch.
Neither comment applies to Leadbitter, who has clearly lost his way since being told to clean up his act on the pitch by of all people, Roy Keane!
Yes, the players should re-imburse the travelling fans. If they are not willing to do so, fine every one of them a month's pay.

Also, am I right in thinking that a couple of clubs have recruited players fans have suggested? Yeovil spring to mind? Maybe it would be good if we did the same? If victorywillhappen is correct and the club pass on info then we could have 1000's of scouts out there and a bit of hope!

Personally I think it's the worst performance I've ever seen from a senior professional player (Ainsleys was comparable, but he's just a kid and Delany did make some interceptions during his inept display) but you're completely right Keanish, stripped of captaincy and I'd go one stage further, it would cost us but I'd sack him! (which would mean paying him off for the remainder of his contract, but it would be worthwhile!!)

The best apology the players can give is to beat Leeds on Saturday!

Mark Kennedy, thankyou for your thoughts. It can't be easy putting yourself in the firing line after the last few results and making yourself an easy target for all of our frustrations, especially as it should be our captain apologising.

How come we never seem to hear from our "captain" Grant Leadbitter?

I'd love an apology off of him and an explanation as to why he's been so average since we bought him.

When you think of the great captains we've had here in recent-ish years,Mills,Butcher,Mowbray,Holland,DeVos,Magilton etc - it shows just how far we've fallen when we've got this gormless non-entity wearing the armband.

Apologies if i'm sounding harsh but it makes my blood boil..these blokes are getting paid a bloody fortune to do something that i'd do for free.

raycrawford..I hope & pray you're right.

surco72..spot on with the playing Kennedy at the back suggestion..I did suggest that last week..he's the kind of guy we need in the team right now,not on the bench.

whats to look at ,we cant play simple passes and we cannot organise our defence, and the defenders think they're capable of playing glen hoddle passes.rule those out and we might only concede three next game!all credit to p'boro, they put themselves in positions (which may have been offside)to put us in a position where someone had to make a decision for us.the lino got some right and some wrong.
