Murphy Rejoins on Loan
Murphy Rejoins on Loan
Wednesday, 24th Aug 2011 22:28

Celtic striker Daryl Murphy is set to rejoin the Blues on loan for the season. The Republic of Ireland international was previously with Town during the second half of 2009/10 when a Sunderland player, moving on to the SPL giants for an undisclosed fee at the end of that campaign.

The 28-year-old, who was spotted on a plane flying south earlier today, says the move happened very quickly: "It came out of the blue really, I had a call from my agent last night to say Ipswich were interested and it was a no brainer for me really.

"I know the club and the area from my time here before. Some of the lads that were at the club then are still here and I know Michael Chopra from our time at Sunderland.

"I'm looking forward to playing for the club again and we will see how it goes from there. If I do well and the manager wants to extend my stay beyond the year then I certainly would be interested but for now all I want is to concentrate on is playing games."

Murphy, who scored six goals in 18 games during his previously spell with the Blues, is likely to complete his move in the morning.

The Waterford-born striker almost joined Town during the Joe Royle era, spending several spells on trial with the Blues in the 2004/05 season before signing for the Black Cats.

Town are also likely to complete the signings of Ibrahima Sonko and Jimmy Bullard tomorrow with the former Hull man understood to have completed his medical this evening.

The Blues say further announcements will be made tomorrow with news breaking both on and off the pitch.

Meanwhile, Stoke City central defender Danny Collins is again being mentioned in connection with the Blues. Collins, 31, was previously claimed to be the subject of a £1 million Town offer earlier in the month.

Wales international Collins started his career with Chester City, moving on to to Sunderland before signing for Stoke for £2.75 million in September 2009.

I always liked that photo - good to see it back , nice young man

Maybe worth a punt on us going up now if we keep getting the check book out - no wonder ME was in town - we needed his loose change

this is Jewelish for 'ellington is crap, as is scotland and inspite of priskin licking up to me for the first few weeks he is a waste of space'.

Wasnt impressed last time he was here, very average winger trying to play as a centre forward, there is better out there for the money we'll be paying him, wud rather Duke or Priskin played to be honest, this is a strange signing for me

But still, welcome back Dazza, if you can score 1 in 3 again this season, i'll be happy....

I really don't mind these signings, especially Jimmy, as long as we go for philosophy that if you score 7, we'll score 8 (from now on anyway!) because we still need more defenders. COYB.

I assume he'll go straight into the team, obviously PJ's lost faith in Ellington, Scotland and Priskin. If he gets 1 in 3, Chopra gets 15 goals and Andrews, Martin, Bullard, Bowyer and JET chip in with goals from midfield it looks alot more promising.

big man up front - not had one since Mr Lee left, has to be good to take the pressure off the beleagured back 4,
lets hope his return is more in the image of John Wark than Jack Colback

Decent player... certainly the best we've got after Chopra!
Some clueless people giving negative comments on this!?

talk about out of the blue, suddenly after these three (hopefully!) signings our side is looking half decent again, well done Mr Jewell.

We now have Murphy and Ellington as back ups should Chopra get injured. Sure he isn't a commanding centre back, but hopefully Sonko will fill that gap. Don't forget we still have Ingimarsson waiting in the wings. When he is fit, Ingimarsson and Sonko (a CB pairing that was part of Reading's promotion team I believe) with Delaney will be a good rotation.

Stockdale
Edwards
Ingimarsson
Delaney / Sonko
Cresswell
Carson / Martin
Bullard
Andrews
Bowyer
Emmanuel-Thomas
Chopra

Subs:
Lee-Barrett
Sonko / Delaney
Martin / Carson
Leadbitter
Ellington

That ignores Kennedy, Hyam, Smith, Drury, Healy etc. Good squad there with Murphy and the 2 new boys *touch wood*.

Also hats of to our owner he has obviously dug deep to sort the mess out,Not much mention about clegg though during any of this today.

What a great day Bullard having a medical and Murphy on loan. Not sure about Sonko and we all know we need 2 CB's but PJ is obviously on the case so maybe a bad start is what we needed to give a reality check and a need for PJ to invest.
Rememeber Norwich lost to Colchester by 7 at home last year and still won promotion? Lets get this party started.!!

wow, what an evening!!! if (fingers VERY tightly crossed) these signings are all finalised tomorrow morning, then we have taken massive strides towards fixing our squad!! It goes without saying that Bullard is going to be loved by everyone, and will add much needed class and creativity to a currently stagnant midfield, and murphy, a proven goalscorer when with us before, offers us more attacking options, much needed when martin is going to be out for 3games (or longer is jewell really is as pissed off with him as he says he is!?), and then sonko giving us some much MUCH needed cover at the back! life is good again!!!! COYB!!

Also good to mention that it's nice to see Mr Evans finally taking a proper hands on approach to the club, and pulling his finger out and putting his money where his proverbial mouth is to get the club out of it's current mess! good on you sir!!

Will he play as a winger or a striker, with Martin suspended we need someone to fill in. Just hope this doesnt mean the end of Priskin, otherwise thats more money wasted.

bigfatjoe2 added 23:43 - Aug 24
