Murphy Rejoins on Loan Wednesday, 24th Aug 2011 22:28
Celtic striker Daryl Murphy is set to rejoin the Blues on loan for the season. The Republic of Ireland international was previously with Town during the second half of 2009/10 when a Sunderland player, moving on to the SPL giants for an undisclosed fee at the end of that campaign.
The 28-year-old, who was spotted on a plane flying south earlier today, says the move happened very quickly: "It came out of the blue really, I had a call from my agent last night to say Ipswich were interested and it was a no brainer for me really.
"I know the club and the area from my time here before. Some of the lads that were at the club then are still here and I know Michael Chopra from our time at Sunderland.
"I'm looking forward to playing for the club again and we will see how it goes from there. If I do well and the manager wants to extend my stay beyond the year then I certainly would be interested but for now all I want is to concentrate on is playing games."
Murphy, who scored six goals in 18 games during his previously spell with the Blues, is likely to complete his move in the morning.
Town are also likely to complete the signings of Ibrahima Sonko and Jimmy Bullard tomorrow with the former Hull man understood to have completed his medical this evening.
The Blues say further announcements will be made tomorrow with news breaking both on and off the pitch.
Wales international Collins started his career with Chester City, moving on to to Sunderland before signing for Stoke for £2.75 million in September 2009.

Well this shows just how serious we are. Thanks to ME. SC and PJ and great to see a huge majority of positive posts for Sonko. Bullard and Murphy. Just need a couple more in the back now.As others have said what a contrast since last Saturday! Blue skies!

Decent signing, we all know what he can do & this time he has Chops to play up wiv. Well done PJ, he us the big striker we needed & has goals in him too. Welcome back, Daryl ;o)
will definately be a midfield and forward line of:
Andrews Bowyer Bullard JET Murphy Chopra
A RB would be handy, still need another CB as well, but shaping up well Town. With Martin out for 3, Carson unfit, if Murphy hits the ground running he will keep that spot. Solid player for this level. Positives all round. Sick of the bollocks people say on this forum, our team is very good for this division.
Thought he was the better of the two Sunderland loanees we got. Will certainly add to our attacking frontline (hell, if we score as we did under Royle then who cares about our defensive woes) however... Collins sounds like a good addition especially if we sign Sonko and hopefully the trial defender we had a while back. It's all additions of a prem. quality that'll help us out.
Byebye Scotland and Priskin, thanks for noting! Great signing. Get him playing with Chops ASAP. We need to get a good strike partnership going. We haven't had one since Bent and Kuqi.
On the whole think we should be positive by the volume of news coming out of PR. Like many others I feel we need more cover at the back, but have faith in PJ
Fifeblue and all the other depressing pessimistic pundits: why don't u go and start up your own site so u can all wallow in your own abject misery together. The rest of us are just getting bored of u now. I bet when things work out you'll all join on the celebration band wagon. Let's see what happens before u slate everything that pj does
Sorry, but am I in a minority at being seriously underwhelmed by this news? My grade in Murphy's leaving report with us, on a scale of A-F, was E ("sufficient, minimum level required to pass"). For the purposes of comparison, A=outstanding, B= very good, C= good, D= satisfactory, F= fail. He's moved around from pillar to post, but has he ever made his mark anywhere? Anyway, having said that, anyone who puts on the shirt gets my initial support, so welcome back, Darryl, and please prove me wrong. [Maybe it will work better this time with Chopra to feed off you.]
If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you But make allowance for their doubting too ; etc, etc.....
Personally, I feel an excellent loan signing. He was committed and enthusiastic last time round and seemed to be a good character to have on the pitch. I am assuming he is going to take over as a Winger? (we have an abundance of strikers at the club). Bullard will also be an excellent signing,- one of the most instantly loved players at the club. Has the potential to become an ITFC Legend. Still think we need a recognised rb and another cd to join alongside Sonko (afterall, we have never replaced Mcauley and O'Dea),- but apart from that very happy with how things are going at the club. Welcome back Daryl,- I feel our season could actually now get started, starting with beating Leeds on Saturday....
Murphy started brilliantly in his first loan at Ipswich, then faded to mediocrity. Still, I am really pleased we are signing a target man as this gives us a badly needed other option up front. We need to be able to change things tactically and Chopra could potentially do so much better with Murphy alongside of him. Great news, if we sign Murphy, Bullard and Sonko then manage to beat Leeds Saturday suddenly all will be rosy in the Portman Road garden. :-)
