Murphy Rejoins on Loan
Murphy Rejoins on Loan
Wednesday, 24th Aug 2011 22:28

Celtic striker Daryl Murphy is set to rejoin the Blues on loan for the season. The Republic of Ireland international was previously with Town during the second half of 2009/10 when a Sunderland player, moving on to the SPL giants for an undisclosed fee at the end of that campaign.

The 28-year-old, who was spotted on a plane flying south earlier today, says the move happened very quickly: "It came out of the blue really, I had a call from my agent last night to say Ipswich were interested and it was a no brainer for me really.

"I know the club and the area from my time here before. Some of the lads that were at the club then are still here and I know Michael Chopra from our time at Sunderland.

"I'm looking forward to playing for the club again and we will see how it goes from there. If I do well and the manager wants to extend my stay beyond the year then I certainly would be interested but for now all I want is to concentrate on is playing games."

Murphy, who scored six goals in 18 games during his previously spell with the Blues, is likely to complete his move in the morning.

The Waterford-born striker almost joined Town during the Joe Royle era, spending several spells on trial with the Blues in the 2004/05 season before signing for the Black Cats.

Town are also likely to complete the signings of Ibrahima Sonko and Jimmy Bullard tomorrow with the former Hull man understood to have completed his medical this evening.

The Blues say further announcements will be made tomorrow with news breaking both on and off the pitch.

Meanwhile, Stoke City central defender Danny Collins is again being mentioned in connection with the Blues. Collins, 31, was previously claimed to be the subject of a £1 million Town offer earlier in the month.

Wales international Collins started his career with Chester City, moving on to to Sunderland before signing for Stoke for £2.75 million in September 2009.

Mark it appears more to prove this time with talk of permenant deal.... a big Target and versitile Target man perfect for chopra, much needed height too. A good addition, great age too. Happy with this, bullard and Sonko a defender or two now please...

While like most on here I am pleased that reinforcements (and good ones too, on paper at least) are being brought in obviously with the aim of kick starting our season again, it is interesting to see a quote from Matthew Upson relating to West Ham's under-achieving last season; "It's not always about quality players, is it? Talent is maybe about 15 to 20 per cent in a team. The rest of it is all the other areas: discipline, organisation, commitment, spirit." We didn't show many of these qualities against Southampton, and none at all against Peterborough. I hope the new signings will show these qualities and lead by example otherwise we might just be papering over the cracks.

very positive by the club,if we dont reach a top six spot they seem determind to show us that it's not going to be through lack of effort. i'm quitetly pleased with the signings, with the players we have got now goals seem a formality.if not then its definitly something to do with divine intervention.come on you blues lets get up and go at it again;D

Interesting!!! and really nice guy; we met him and his family in Toys R Us just before he left last spell; he seemed to enjoy talking football with our then 8 year old.

Will make a good foil for Chopra. started well at first when he was here before and faded when it was clear we weren't going to sign him permanently. Also had injury problems at the end.

May as well sit Scotland and Priskin out on the road with a sign around their necks saying " Free To A Good Home".

Good player, hope he will do well here again.
Should be a good player for chops to work with.
We need goals urgently.

Does this mean JET is consigned to playing down the left? I prefer him up front

Good signing, did quite well when he was last here I seem to remember. More importantly VERY excited about the possibility of getting Jimmy AND Danny Collins. One would give us the creative midfield flair we're lacking and the other some steel in our central defence. Come on Clegg! Make these signings happen and get us fans smiling again!

Now when he's signed a complete new team of players, let's hope he can get them to play like one ... in the tradition of the likes of Sir Bobby who moulded what he had available into a force to be reckoned with

Good News!

Excellent partner for Chopra.

PJ must have been working 24/7 this week. Despite our start to the season I think I like him even more for the effort has put in.

Bullard and Roberge links are hopeful as with the Andrews and Chopra signings but Murphy's signing is peculiar at best and I still don't see or hear any confirmation that PJ has a vision for a/ what stylle of football we will play and b/what type of players we need to play that way. 6 central midfielders and strikers and no wide players doesn't bode well for attractive passing football methinks! Hope I'm wrong and lets start with stuffing The Thugs this Saturday.

he's a poacher so....cant be bad! But we need some people with passion for the club who want to fight for the cause instead of getting a foot up in their careers!!

Mate of mine is a Sunderland fan and he laughed when I told him.
He reckons Murphy and Chopra never hit it off in 3 years of trying to make it work up there.

Could we be seeing JET and Murphy interchanging with each other the role of Chop's strike partner and the left wing?

I agree "Arablue". Can see one of them doing Lee Martins Wing Role and Martin Possibly going out on Loan..
