Town Amongst Trio Eyeing Slovenian Defender Thursday, 25th Aug 2011 22:43
Town, QPR and West Ham are all understood to have been alerted to the availability of Slovenian international defender Marko Å uler. The 28-year-old is currently with KAA Gent in Belgium but is looking to move on.
Å uler is unhappy at Gent because manager Trond Sollied plays him at left-back rather than the central defensive position he has occupied while winning 27 caps and scoring two goals for his country. Gent are believed to be willing to allow the 6ft 2in tall defender to leave if they receive the right offer.
Rated at around the €2 million mark, Šuler played youth football with hometown club NK Slovenj Gradec, then moved over the border to Austrian clubs SAK Klagenfurt and Kärnten.
In 2001 he was back in Slovenia with Dravograd, before departing for Gorica in 2004. After four seasons there, he joined Gent in 2008.
Meanwhile, Shamrock Rovers, the club where ex-Town skipper and boss Jim Magilton is temporary assistant manager, have become the first Irish side ever to reach the group stages of a European competition.
Dublin-based Rovers, who are managed by Magilton's former Northern Ireland team-mate Michael O'Neill, won 2-1 after extra time away in Serbia against Partizan Belgrade this evening to go through to the Europa League group phase, having drawn 1-1 in the home leg.

Perhaps Jimmy Bullard can make use of his experiences from his recent trip to Slovenia with Hull and charm Marko to joining him at ITFC. They could share hair care products post match!
He is known for his leadership on the pitch according to wiki ...that sounds like something we could do with at the back. Wont have to wait for Stoke to free up defenders either.
eaii: i recently got much egg on my face regarding a certain mr Bullard , now I believe almost anything can happen so chin up and do you prefer free range or organic on it.COYB
The YouTube clip - not sure he'd have got away with some of those tackles with an English Championship referee. Seems a good defender, tho. Hope it doesn't reflect his taste in music ...
I tip my hat to thee victorywillhappen! What a player he looks, proper defender! I'd be concerned that alot of refs might not let him get away with most of it in this country such is the way its going, I do hope this is true tho and we snap him up. Anyone notice him getting the better of priskin in that video? Also well done Jim!
Hmmmm. Don't get me wrong, I'd be delighted to see this player at the club. But has anyone actually taken the time to read this article correctly?
"Town, QPR and West Ham are all understood to have been alerted to the availability of Slovenian international defender Marko Å uler. The 28-year-old is currently with KAA Gent in Belgium but is looking to move on.".
They have been "alerted to the availability". Clubs are alerted to the availability of players all the time, in fact on some occasions all it takes is an e-mail to the club to make this possible (and this can come from anyone). I could send an e-mail to ITFC alerting them to my availability, however it wouldn't make a bag of difference!!
I work VERY closely with someone who knows the ins and outs of this club (because they are part of the ITFC Infrastructure) and they have heard ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about this defender. There are others mentioned here who are most definately on the radar (Danny C, Val Roberge, Ib Sonko) but not this guy.
Saying that, I hope I am wrong and this guy signs. Looks serious quaility and can't be any worse than Smith or Ainsley.
Would love to see Suler at the club. Get in Sonko, Roberge, him and that Struna chap at right-back! (might help him settle more easily). Feel good days are ahead.
