Sonko and Murphy Out
Sonko and Murphy Out
Thursday, 17th Nov 2011 09:59

Town boss Paul Jewell has ruled defender Ibrahima Sonko and striker Daryl Murphy are out of Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest due to their hamstring problems. Lee Bowyer (hamstring and back) and Nathan Ellington (calf) are both available after recovering from their knocks.

Jewell said: “Sonko is struggling and Daryl Murphy will train for the first time this morning but it’s a bit early for him.”

The Blues boss says the Senegalese international is on the mend after suffering the injury in the game at Millwall: “He's improving all the time and the two-week international break has given him a chance to get his hamstring right, but we really need to get to the bottom of it and make sure he's fully fit before he returns to match action.

"So Sonks is definitely out but Lee Bowyer has been training with us all week, as has Nathan Ellington, which is encouraging."

Jewell is still waiting for his international players to return but has had no reports of any injuries.

Why oh why is murphy with us? He's virtually been injured since he's been here.

shaunminx "He's virtually been injured since he's been here" - You could say that about half a dozen of our players! They have the skill but are too old, always injured. That's why we are heading down the league fast!

Welcome to the portman road knackers yard, where old footballers can live out their final days in peace & solitude, safe in the knowledge that they'll still get paid without having to play football. Mr Jewell you have been taken for a mug & have signed old players that wiser managers were avoiding, the sooner your gone from Ipswich Town the better imo.

Murphy was the striker many fans were hoping we could afford to sign at the end of the 2009/10 season, and we do need his kind of target man striker in the squad. His fitness and injuries have been very disappointing though to say the least.

The expertise of backroom staff is SO important with this squad. Do we have the very best ?
Can they maximise players' time on the pitch?
It doesn't take much thought to work out just how valuable it is extend a player's career.
