O'Connor: Town Career Coming to an End
O'Connor: Town Career Coming to an End
Tuesday, 29th Nov 2011 10:05

Full-back or midfielder Shane O’Connor is in no doubt that his Town career is at an end hopes he can show potential new clubs what he can do during his month's loan at Port Vale. The Republic of Ireland U21 international's contract at Portman Road is up in June and he appears firmly out of boss Paul Jewell’s plans having appeared for only 15 minutes of the Carling Cup semi-final second leg at Arsenal since the change of manager.

O’Connor said: "I've come here to sell myself to other clubs and get myself another permanent deal. My time at Ipswich is coming to an end and I've got a chance to show people what I can do because I've fallen out of the spotlight.

"I'm looking at my loan move as a trial — trying to impress the management team and players here.

"If all goes well I would 100 per cent sign here in January. This is a club with aspirations to get promoted. I am looking to sell myself to Vale first and foremost as they have given me the chance."

The Cork-born former Liverpool trainee, who could play for Vale’s reserves against Chesterfield this afternoon having arrived at his temporary club too late to be involved in Friday’s 0-0 draw with Torquay, has made 15 starts and seven sub appearances for the Blues without scoring.

Meanwhile, Town's reserves will play a behind-closed-doors friendly at Chelsea's Cobham training ground on Monday 12th December.

nitroblue - spot on - off the field problems don't come much worse than those two, in terms of setting an example for the Club and young supporters.

But then again, the word 'young' seems alien to this Club of today, so maybe no longer applicable.

I completely disagree with PJ on this one. Injury prone has beens on inflated contracts and loans is not the answer. Young hungry players, with a mix of experience is. Bowyer, Bullard, Ingimarrsson are all here for the money. O'Conner did well for us, yet he has been cast aside by PJ. Why? For me, PJ is not the arm round the shoulder manager several posters on here tried to convince us of. His treatment of Healy, Martin, Carson, Peters and O'Conner has been nothing short of disgraceful. No doubt several will disagree - but for me PJ has shown little to suggest he is any better than our last two managers.

I love Shane, think he has so much potential to show.
I spoke to him after a friendly during the summer and he said that he needed to move on but its such a shame, hopefully he'll shine there and get his chance at in the Championship later on in his career.
Best of luck to the boy :)

Totally agree Jas0999...don't forget about Hyam either. Great prospect who was progressing under Keane...no doubt he'll be on his way soon!. Jewell keeps bleating on about time but he'll find that next year the financial strings will be tightened just like they were for Keane and he'll be on his way too.

Shane is better than the current dross being picked by Jewel week in week out and is on a lot less money too. Jewel keeps on about Ipswich being a long term project but the way things are going he won't be here to see his plans through. Perhaps we are going to do the reverse of Huddersfield and go on a record losing streak with our Dad's Army team. Anybody looking forward to the Leicester trip on Boxing Day? God knows what Nugent and co will do to us. The third Burnley goal has just slipped in, how much more of this crap can we take? It sounds like one way traffic at Turf Moor, depressing stuff. If Jewel stays we will be heading for League 1. Sort it out ME pronto before it's too late.
