Magilton's Victory Appointment Confirmed
Magilton's Victory Appointment Confirmed
Saturday, 7th Jan 2012 08:01

Former Blues boss Jim Magilton has been confirmed as the new manager of Australian A-League side Melbourne Victory, agreeing a three-month contract which takes him to the end of their season.

Magilton says he only heard about the possibility on Thursday: "It all happened pretty quickly. I got a phone call, the opportunity arose and I snapped it up."

The 42-year-old described his approach to management: "I am fearless, I am meticulous, I am astute, I am very much hands on and I like to get amongst the players and be involved in the training aspect of the set-up. And I am a pretty amiable guy.

“But the immediate effect I can have on the team is confidence, morale in the dressing room and lift the confidence and morale of the supporters. That is something that I am easily equipped to do as it is in my nature."

Good for him, well done Jim.
I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I wish Magilton, Sheepshanks, Bowden etc etc were all still here. Proper Ipswich through and through.

Yeah, ITFC Legend... surprised he hasn't got a job in the football league since QPR tbh, for his first in management he did a good job here. I still stand by that.

Wonder why most of the post on here was to sack him when he was the town manager.

Feel we would be in the play offs by now if he still was.

Problem with town is the manager is only here for about 18 months and they seem to spend their time bring in new players and getting rid of the last managers old players.
Think most of the fans expected town to be promoted there and then because we had money. What we need is for stability and for the likes of Wickham to still be here instead of selling to pay some of the wages of the has beens.

See Rhodes banged in another 5 the other night.

Rhodes and Wickham up front or Chopra and Scotland

Welcome to Australia Jim! With the way ITFC are going this year, I reckon his new team could give Town a run for it's money.

Has to work on his Aussie accent though :) Would rate the A-League about League 1/2 and rapidly improving.

Great player - still not convinced that he will be a good maanger - I fear his actions at QPR will make it difficult for him to get another post in England. However, Ipswich through and through - heart in the club and certainly better than PJ!

Maybe League 1 - Melbourne victory's marquee player is Harry kewell...massive under performers this year; both Melbourne and Harry...

Nice guy, passionate about Ipswich and didn't deserve what he got here, take him back tomorrow and being in the top half of the table.

I hope he does well, I agree I don't think he did a bad job at ITFC and there would possibly be a bit more youth allowed to come through had he (& Klug) remained

Best of luck Jim should never have sacked ten times better than the rubbish weve seen the last few years

Great news Jim and well done. Harshly treated in the end at ITFC but great servant to the club. Can't image for one minute things would/could have been any worse if he stayed and at least he would have been prepared to play the kids and in time would of got better. A reminder for some about always being careful of what you wish for. Having said that Jewell is hopeless and won't ever improve.

Best of luck Jim, Beginning to build up an impressive CV now- You did a great Job for Town under difficult conditions, Your short lived time as QPR boss was still very good and fantastic supporting role at Shamrock, 3 months in Oz to wet your lips to time in nicely for a return to Town in the summer to lead us to the play offs next season...Nice that you beat Keano to this Oz job as well.
