Lavery Could Join Kilmarnock
Lavery Could Join Kilmarnock
Thursday, 12th Jan 2012 03:02

Former Town striker Caolan Lavery could be joining SPL side Kilmarnock after his move to Bradford City broke down. The Northern Ireland U21 international turned down a Blues contract at the end of his Academy scholarship in October, subsequently spending time on trial at Sunderland, Leicester and then Bradford.

The Canadian-born frontman impressed the League Two club but we understand the Bantams - who were alerted to Lavery by former Blues coach Brian Owen now a scout at Valley Parade - were unable to agree compensation with Town and their interest has waned. The Blues are due the cash having made the offer of the contract.

Kilmarnock, who signed Lavery's ex-Academy team-mate Rory McKeown last summer - are said to be establishing whether they would have to pay compensation for the 19-year-old and if so at what level.

Elsewhere, Leeds continued to be linked with Town target Sean St Ledger, Leicester having delayed the Irish international’s proposed move to the Blues.

This incident does make you wonder how bright people involved in pro football are.
The lad is getting some terrible advice and taking it.

If he was any good and had got his head down he may well have been a member of the first team squad now.

Kilmarnock about his level i would say, he really has an inflated opinion of his playing skills.

Typical of this club ruin the boys chances because you are greedy offer a pathetic pittance of a wage tell him to go and then demand money to stop him playing for anyone else - add this to PJ blaming a woman because he could not get a draw despite his 49% lose rate over his year in charge (maybe thats her fault as well) and it shows how pitiful this club has become

@newboy - think you have your story wrong. Lavery was offered a 6mth deal to prove himself with Town that HE turned down as he thought he could get better elsewhere and his contract was expiring so he has left on a FREE. Obviously none of the other Clubs felt he was worth a contract or agent asking too much and now looks like SPL, good luck!
Chances are that the deal was offered by Calamity Clegg than PJ anyway.

osborne1nil -- not quite right. If you read the story, ITFC are entitled to compensation as we offered him a contract. It looks like we are holding out for too much as Bradford would not pay and Killie are looking to get round it.

Agree, Bergholtblue but do you not think that Town should get compensation? The compensation is supposed to help towards the cost of the Club training this player to where they are and then offering him a professional contract for him to then elect to go elsewhere for free. Seems fair.

Is it a case of having a too high opinion of himself, with a greedy agent behind him looking to earn a quick buck? It's not only footballing ability that PJ has to gauge, it's their attitude as well.

Osbourne1, exactly as we have done with Cresswell, compensation paid to Tranmere. imo Lavery has been poorly advised and clearly was more committed to his wallet than the club. Can't really argue with PJ on this one.

Osborne nil he was not even offered enough to cover his lodgings and when some one tells you to go compensation is not an issue the boy was treated badly by the idiot in charge wont be long before stories are leaked proving what an incompetent fool he is. and before you all start the crap about he has found his level you were all calling for him to have a first team start a few months back

newboy ..not many were calling for him to play just those looking for another excuse to knock Jewell because a kid thinks he is better than he is and has been proved wrong . You and Lavery can blame the club all they want but still a club has to offer him a deal which no one has because they do not believe he worth the money or the gamble
