Swindon: We've Had No Bids
Swindon: We've Had No Bids
Monday, 16th Jan 2012 08:54

Swindon chairman Jeremy Wray says his club have not received a bid from Town for Matt Ritchie (pictured) and Paul Caddis. The Blues were understood to have made a move for the winger and the right-back over the weekend, manager Paul Jewell having revealed that Town had made an offer for two players at one club and a third target from another after Saturday’s draw with Blackpool.

However, Wray says his club have not received any offers for any of his squad: “There have been no bids for any of our players.”

With speculation rife regarding Ritchie in particular, the left-footed right winger was also linked with Reading, Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday over the weekend and Town were amongst a host of clubs represented at Swindon’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash at Barnet last Tuesday, manager Paolo Di Canio says he’s determined to hold on to the 22-year-old: “I told him to forget about going somewhere, we want to keep him and bring in other players. We want to win the league and he is one of the main parts of this team.

“He was fantastic at Rotherham and thanks to him. He did his part and he is a fantastic professional and hopefully he can keep going until the end of the season.”

Last week, Swindon made an offer for Town striker Ronan Murray, who they want to sign on a permanent basis after his successful loan at the County Ground. Murray is now back with the Blues with that spell over at the weekend.

Jewell was just lying to keep his job! its not rocket science.

Jewell didn't specify the bids were for Swindon players so we can't complain at that, although the links did sound the sort of young players that we'd all like. Let's watch this space and hope we do bring some young blood in on permanent deals.

We are dealing with speculation as to whether the bids/enquiries were for Swindon players - the more pressing point is that it is the current management who are seeking to strengthen the squad, this would suggest a change is not imminent. Pointless bringing a new manager in February once the transfer window has passed.

Realistically would you want to come and play for PJ - all he can do is talk at least it keeps the pretence up that he could be capable of doing something and it keeps everyone quiet for a while. As previously said we suckers sit and believe anything

Either the press have it wrong and its a completely different pair or Swindon are playing games.

Any club in our position (hovering around relegation zone) will struggle to sign decent players - except possiby on loan.

Not an excuse for PJ, it's a fact.

If its Powell and Clayton I'm happy - they will be quality. Getting the Swindon two and Ferdinand as well and we'll kick butt next season. Big "if" though!

Why do people on here keep saying that players won't come here because we are near the bottom of the table.

It is all about terms and conditions in the contracts that are offered. Offer people enough and they will come and play for us. ITFC has a superb pitch, training ground and dare I say it: great supporters and are ambitious. Just the things that, given good contract offer, will attract players.

Phil; your report said: ""Swindon pair Matt Ritchie (left) and Paul Caddis are the two players from one club that Town boss Paul Jewell revealed he had lodged a bid for after yesterday's game""

Presumably if he said this as you report then the Swindon Chairman hasn't been told yet?

It's Jamie McDonald (34) and Simon Jackson (36) from Woodbridge Town on a loan-with-view-to-purchase deal.

I agree with Tractamatt, Paul Jewell never said that he bid for these two Swindon Players! Phil and TWTD clearly found out some information that was highly reliable from someone at the club and put the story up but as far as Im aware PJ never publicly said he bid for these players! Give the guy a break till the transfer sagas unfold eh

Why are people so hung up on the bids being for these two Swindon players,I'm sure the only reason is because of the Ronan Murray loan. There is no doubt in my mind that three bids have been made and here's a thought for some of you there are 92 league sides with who knows how many players yet because a chairman says the bid were'nt made for our players you've been lied to.GROW UP!!!

I have heard that Ritchie is a very decent player and would be a fine addition to any Championship team. Let's hope that speculation such as this actually leads to a signing, unfortunately we have had our hopes dashed too many times before to get too excited just yet.
