Leeds Linked With Andrews
Leeds Linked With Andrews
Monday, 16th Jan 2012 15:04

Leeds United have been linked with a move for ex-Blues loanee Keith Andrews. The Blackburn Rovers midfielder was close to joining Town’s Saturday opponents before he moved to Portman Road on a half-season loan in August.

While boss Paul Jewell has said he remains hopeful that Town are still in the running for the 31-year-old Irishman, whose spell ended a week ago, Premier League interest probably means the Blues — and also fellow Championship club Leeds — are unlikely to get their man.

Town have other central midfielders on their list of potential signings and with no progress on the Andrews front, we understand are now looking more seriously towards alternative targets elsewhere.

On Friday, Blackburn boss Steve Kean said Andrews, who has 18 months left on his contract, is very much back in his plans at Ewood Park and will be considered for selection once he is over his hamstring problem.

The Republic of Ireland international, who scored nine goals in his time with Town, is understood to prefer an end to his unhappy spell with the Lancastrians.

Have to say having Drury and a hopefully fit Bullard plus Hyam hopefully signed and back in the frame can't see Andrews as a priority if he's not that bothered.

He is important, he scores goals, which few of our mid-fielders do.

Still optimistic that he will sign.

Worcester Blue - I cant see Drury, Bullard or Hyam scoring the amount of goals that Andrews has.
As our strikers are hardly prolific we need as many goals from midfield and the defenders as possible.

Leeds cant afford his wages..Bates is too tight

I agree Sindre. While his goal ratio was great, he was largely anonymous in some games. Not the leader I had hoped for. Plenty better.

If we could get him on loan rest of season I would say yes if was only too help the youngsters along. He is not the future

If he was interested in staying, Andrews would have signed for us by now. As others have said, our midfield has looked alright in the last couple of games. He'd be a great signing, but his goals and regular place in the Ireland side suggest he's probably just a bit too good to play for us in our present situation!

Time to move on, yes we will miss his goals but the movement and effort from our midfield on Saturday was the best i have seen this season.
Plus the money spent on his wages and agents fees would be better spent on young players, if it is true that he is on 23K a week he is not that good.

Walberswick..do us all a favour & change your picture please!

Andrews, does score goals which is important but I wouldn't want the club paying another player the level of weekly salary that Bullard is receiving..especially at the age of 31. He also does not dominate the midfield winning tackles all over.

would be a shame to miss out on a player of his quality, and no1 can say hes not 'hungry', he needs to play his heart out again to ensure he is picked in trappatoni's euro squad.

Andrews is a leader and that's exactly what we don't have on the pitch at the moment so would love to see him back with a few younger signings in key positions.
If he is available on loan lets just see how much he did enjoy playing for Jewell and ITFC as surely we would be in pole position to regain his services?

Is it just co-incidence that things have gone from woeful to disastrous since Andrew wasn't in the team?

If he was gonna sign he would have done so but he's keeping the door open incase he does'nt get what he wants else where. Will miss his goals but we want players here who want to be here for the team and the club , not to enhance their chances of international football.ALAN SMITH.

crazee.... what do you mean? there were disastrous performances with him in the team, i believe he played in every game of our disastrous losing streak ? and the game on saturday was hardly woeful( some of the defending was) the defending was woeful in andrews time here too, his goals have been invaluable and i am fully aware of where we would have been without his goals, but we probably wont be seeing him again, besides which he is not the future of itfc, i saw lots of positives in saturdays younger look team, get in 2 cbs and a rb to make us solid, it wont turn us into world beaters, but being solid at the back will be a good foundation on which to move forward..... coyb

I really hope PJ has 2 or 3 aces to sign if not we could be in trouble.

Andrews was a top player, and really did lead from the front. That said, so was Jimmy last season. What is needed is a (bear with me) Gerrard-esque leader who can motivate and inspire; something that has been missing since De Vos/Magilton.

On a side note, anyone see De Vos' tweet about not being able to return a la Henry/Scholes? I, for one, was gutted, haha.
