Portsmouth Turn Down Three Pearce Bids Tuesday, 31st Jan 2012 16:22
Portsmouth have turned down deadline day offers for Jason Pearce from three different Championship clubs, including from Town, according to reports on the south coast. The Blues are trying to land the central defender and team-mates Joel Ward and Stephen Henderson before the window closes at 11pm this evening.
Town are continuing to talk to Pompey, with their parent company Convers Sports Initiatives’ administrator also involved in the discussions. Negotiations - and bidding - is set to run right to this evening’s deadline with all three Blues targets understood to have been at training at Portsmouth’s training ground this morning.
The Hampshire club need to sell players due their ongoing financial problems which saw them issued with a winding-up order last week with a court hearing set for February 20th, their bank accounts frozen and players not paid.
Australian winger Ryan Williams looks set to join Fulham for £500,000 but they would appear to need to raise significantly more than that with HMRC owed £1.6 million in unpaid PAYE.
Even if all aspects of the deal (or deals) aren’t sorted before tonight’s deadline, Town have previously signed players such as Alan Quinn and Jon Stead on loan initially with the details of a permanent switch completed in the days afterwards.

Make them an offer of silly money. Surely Evans can see that we have to spend big to stop this club slipping into the pooh!

How are they allowed to reject bids!? If they don't get 1.6 mil in tonight they HAVE to find a buyer at the money to pay off their debt by the 20th Feb otherwise it's curtains! Sounds suspect.

If any club deserves to go out of business... it's Portsmouth

I'm no Jewell fan but the buck on this stops with Clegg and Evans. Look at all the deals being done up and down the country and the excuses we are hearing are embarrassing. I'll take it all back if the 3 lads from Pompey are signed and sealed later but can't see it happening.

Actually feel sorry for PJ he's identified decent targets this time not old has berms but clegg/ME haven't delivered and ultimately in weeks to come its going to fall on PJ's head....at 11pm I think I will be resigned to the fact we are getting relegated

Agree Keaneish. My understanding of the situation was that it was critical. It seems that the rules don't apply to Portsmouth Football Club. Never wish ill on clubs...but.......

F*** these players. All the teams that have bidded should just stop. Make Portsmouth go down. Then they'll regret losing 10 points...

loan market is still an option. Time to sign 3 36 year olds on high wages and look to the future of our club. our club has one real future with Donko, Delaney and Desmith. relegation. how Norwich City must be laughing at us now. jewell won't get the sack, even if we are beaten 10-0 by the hammers.

I've said this before but I think the transfer budget is smaller than we think, ME isnt going to chuck money at a problem, he has learned his lesson there I feel. He is a business man and he will have a contingency in place by now for when if PJ resigns or has his contract terminated by mutual consent later next week after we get beat by East Spam and Cov

If we get nout against west ham or coventry Jewell will walk. as a club the damage is done, we are past the event horizon. We will only survive this season through failings of other teams. Next transfer window we will have the same problem, the club is purely undesirable after how badly it has been ran by Evans. I appreciate his financial backing but he employed 2 managers who have taken the "ipswich" out of ipswich and employed a PR guy with no footballing experience as a chief exec.

Portsmouth will play this down to the wire, they have to sell to raise funds or face wrath of HMRC and unpaid players. They will wait and assess all offers and do what is best to "balance the books".

Ipswich61...we are town fans mate...why would he tell us! But i would hope a manager who can motivate the shower of sh** we currently have and inspire them to perform with some passion and pride and pull us out of the relegation dog fight. That would do for me!

ipswich will not sign any other players before deadline, its not in marcus evans intrest when the manager is on the verge of the sack, they would rather get loan players in and that wont happen till after the cov game if he aint sacked by then

So now Clegg can't negotiate with a club who are so desperate for money, although I like pointing the finger at Clegg because I don't feel he's the right person to be running the club, we don't know if he has a set budget to work to and is just difficult and stubborn when it comes to negotiation or if every move has to be ran through Evans first (which would explain why things take so long as Evans seems to put his other businesses first and when there's tme to pick up a few voicemails he'll speak to Cleggy boy) Or is there a more sinister hidden agenda here? Untill Pompey officially get the winding up order/order to pay or are placed into administration they are free to reject bids, maybe they are in such a mess that going into administration would suit them, thus rejecting the bids means that they still don't have the money coming in to pay their tax bill.

Looks like no defenders and the possibility of another night of 3+ goals conceded. If that happens, im likely to spontaneously self combust. Listen out for an explosion in north london...

Ithinkas Fans of the club we have to accept that we are in a massive transition period,we are not going to get anyone in today accept that. if god forbid we are relegated then I would like to think we can bounce back first time, we have to give the youth players a shot and build again, I think Mr Evans, who we should not forget saved our club, will act in the summer and remove Jewell and Clegg untill then we have to pull together and get on with it, if you dont want to go to Portman Road then dont go, but comon everyone whine here but not at the team, we have to stick together

Pompy have just signed two players.. So to confirm a club who can't pay wages have now signed more players than us!!!! I kno we don't Want to be Held to ransom but we must be offering pittance if everyone else seem to be able to sign players in the space of a couple of days. I kno clegg is an ex army major but his attempt to sign ppl as cheap as poss has to stop and bid proper money like other clubs b4 it's too late (clegg we r not on rations)

Hello there, I'm afraid that the situation at Fratton Park isn't as simple as some have posted on here. There is a wider issue surrounding the ownership of the club which needs to be addressed. The best way of forcing that issue and creating the conditions for either a sale or for the main creditor (Chainrai) to put money into the club is to be staring at the winding up hearing on the 20th without any cash. In that scenario, either Chainrai protects his asset by producing some capital or he sells to interested parties at a realistic price or he sees what is realisable after liquidation (not a lot). There is real conflict between the club and the administrator of CSI (the parent company) as I'm led to believe. There's no point Town talking to the administrator of CSI because he isn't the person responsible for signing off deals. And there is no point accepting any deal for players in PFC's position if it doesn't resolve the cashflow issue until the end of the season. There are games within games being played here and we'll see what happens.
