New Kits Unveiled in April
New Kits Unveiled in April
Wednesday, 7th Mar 2012 17:48

Town’s two new kits for the 2012/13 season will be unveiled in the first week of April. In January, the Blues announced that from now on they would be introducing both new home and away strips each season rather than every other year.

Once they are revealed, both strips will be available to view in both Planet Blue stores, where they can be pre-ordered, with the home shirts arriving in June and the away in July. Those fans pre-ordering can collect their kits a week before they go on general sale, Saturday 16th June for the pre-ordered home strips and Saturday 7th July for the away.

Town's retail manager Lee Hyde says the club and kit manufacturers Mitre have been working to tight deadlines: "We've been up against it this season with regards to getting the supply contract extension signed off as well as kit designs agreed and manufactured.

"The number of questions, tweets and emails about the kits have been steadily increasing over the last month and it will be great to finally show the fans what we've been working so hard on behind the scenes. We're extremely happy with the finished results and we're sure the fans will be too."

Replica kits are really for the kids, and parents with young fans should be prepared for additional demands on their pockets as their young ones will want to keep up with their peer groups who will have the latest versions. Adults may be more discerning and there is evidence that retro shirts representing exciting and successful periods in a club's history are becoming the shirts of choice for the older fans.

I feel that the club missed a real opportunity to capitalise on the 50th anniversary of winning the League Championship in 1962 by paying that team the tribute of playing in a strip this season that followed the design of that used in that memorable season. I would hope that any new kit for next season will honour that achievement by replicating that design.

Otherwise I will be wearing one of the many shirts I have collected over the years rather than adding to that collection.

Please stop the unnecessary and probably futile practice of wearing the "away" kit when there is no clash with the opposition's home kit and our blue. Ipswich have always played in blue & white & I want to see them wearing blue & white whenever possible.

I don't mind how many times or how many kits a year they bring out a year, like most have said it's up to you if you buy it or decide if you can afford it.

What I don't like as someone who spent 16 years in the retail trade including a spell in the club shop is the fact that they cost about £7 to £10 to make an adults shirt and retail at £45 which is about double the normal mark up for everyday clothes. However, it is what it is and does come down to either buy it and enjoy it or don't.

Adidas kits are quality kits. But if we went for any major name they would be for sale in all sports shops and at a cheaper price so that's why they're staying with mitre. You don't see ipswich kits for sale in sports direct do you, plus you would get a better range of leisure wear.

Football clubs are trying to bleed their fans dry with annual kit changes and I was hoping Ipswich buck this trend. Oh well, I'll stick to the retro shirts - better quality and more classy looking.

Let's face it, we haven't had a decent kit for many years now. The Mitre shirts are of poor quality and unimaginative design. The last few kits remind me of pub team apparel. The Punch gear before that wasn't much better.

We need to get on board with a decent kit supplier such as Puma - I really like the home kit they've produced for Cardiff. Better still, lets go back to having white sleeves again. That looked really classy and unique.

I'd even settle for Ipswich playing in yellow, if one of them had 'MESSI' on the back...5 goals in the Champions League tonight....just imagine what he could do in the Championship for Town :-)

PauloJulio I agree. Always blue and never yellow.
Bawsedog I also agree. A few years ago we had the choice of shirts and that style was one, I voted for it but we ended up with something else.
As for the away shirt, not the orange and black thing but a nice solid retro red would look nice.

Lets be honest, the people who buy the shirts are probably the people who would want a new one every year. Whereas the people who are moaning are those more likely not to buy or even consider buying a new town shirt.

I for one am looking forward to a the new shirt, its like a clean start every season.

Until I obtain a licence to print money, I think I'll go and set up my own sportswear company. It appears to be the next best thing.

Don't like? Don't want? Don't buy.

Good point earlier about the away kit - I support the "unneccesary away kit rule". Wearing an away kit when there is no need to gives the home side a goal start.

Blue 041273 is spot on! Our greatest achievement, in 1962, is uncelebrated. Shame!

For the away kit,I'd really like all orange like the fisons one from the early 90's or white shirts and black shortts and white socks from 2000-01.

No it's nothing like petrol prices, I have to put fuel in my car if want I want to use it. I don't have to wear the latest replica shirt to watch the team. If you want the new shirt buy it and stop whining, if you don't then no one, other than the odd moron, is going to think any less of you.

Obviously if the club feels that there are enough suckers around who will buy a new shirt each year, who can really blame them?

Could they put the option for the shirts on top of your season tickets so you get 12 months free credit? More people would buy them that way!

I agree with Bostonblue if you buy the home shirt you get the away shirt at a discounted price but can't see clegg doing anything like that for the fans. Haven't really liked any of our kits in the Marcus Evans era so lets hope this is a good one to push on in next year!

Talking of old gear, does anyone know of an effort to collect the old kits and take them out to Afganistan or the like? From memory that happened a few years ago and Id be happy to donate our old shirts - more regularly now it seems.

Each time my boys want a new shirt, the player promptly leaves Ipswich! They have 'Stead', 'Walters' and currently 'Bullard'....hmmmm maybe I should order one with 'Jas 009' on the back...it might just work! :-)
