U18s Lose at Coventry
U18s Lose at Coventry
Monday, 12th Mar 2012 12:32

Town’s U18s fell to a 4-1 defeat at Coventry on Saturday morning. Jonson Clarke-Harris, Will Roberts, Aaron Phillips and Courtney Richards scored for the home side with the Blues’ strike an own goal.

The scoreline flattered the Sky Blues with Town hitting the bar twice and with the Coventry keeper making a number of good saves.

The young Blues currently sit bottom of their FA Premier Academy League Group and are without a win since November.

Meanwhile, Town’s Irish U17 international keeper Conor O’Donnell spent time on trial at Brighton last week having been told he will not be offered a new contract by the Blues.

No wonder near enough none of these have been offered a contract. What a useless bunch, I reckon my 5-a-side team could give them a beating. Hopefully next season's bunch are better than this. Sir Bobby and Sir Alf would be turning in their graves if they knew what a state the ITFC production line was in right now. Embarrassing.

I take it you were not actually there watching then idiot muhrencross we fielded schoolboys most of the game coventry as with most other clubs fielded their allocation of over age players and admittedly we had alot of chances but it was a day when the strikers could not hit a barn door and the back line were constantly up against it. So unless you are there keep your stupid comments to yourself

Another defeat what is going on ??? Every week our youth team loses and only 1 player offered a pro contract surely some people are not doing there jobs properly.
I have heard alot of negative things about the youth team manager from a lot of supporters who have been to watch the games mainly saying that he is more interested in shouting at the referee then actually coaching the boys.
Considering we have always been a club with a great reputation of producing excellent young players, this really isn't good enough.

We cant in all honesty expect a great deal more from these lad's. Discarded by Ipswich, none of them being offered contract's .But I would say to them give it your all ,show any scout's who are always looking for good talent ,Perhaps in a division lower than Ipswich.Do not let your heads drop, but show them what you can do. Many good players have been through your situation and made it to the big time. Cant expect any more than your best ? !Show Them! COYB

Agree with Up the Town 4. From what I've seen, and what I understand, the manager has lost the respect most of the players, and the worrying thing is that even the U-16 lads coming up don't particularly want to work with him. No one ever plays in their correct position, and the games I've seen at Playford Road involve the manager shouting more at the players and officials than actually encouraging the lads. Shame Klug didn't want to come back as the Academy appears to be in a real mess, and Osman appears to have no idea how to encourage and motivate kids. Shouting at them isn't the way to treat 16-18 year olds.

I don't think the academy should be results driven. (FA Youth Cup apart) It's about educating the youths. I was at the Cov match and apart from the Cov keeper who made several good saves I don't think there was that much between the sides.

@newboy - Of course I wasn't at the game, I have a life. What about you? I sympathise with you greatly that a) you have such low expectations for our youth team, and b) no one ever introduced you to commas or punctuation when you were at school.

@Stourbridgeblue you are right it should not be results driven however if the team was being coached properly and was decent surely they would not be getting beat week after week. They are clearly bottom of the table surely that reflects bad on the manager. I have been to a few games this season including the youth cup game and i must say it is one of the poorest Ipswich youth teams I have seen. It is a great shame as I can see in some of the boys ability and talent but as OldSchool stated which now clearly makes a lot more sense the boys don't want to play for the manager and this is very clear to see. I noticed myself at the lack of coaching and to be honest at 1 game I went to I thought Russell Osman was very embaressing and as an Ipswich Fan i was ashamed of. Maybe it's time to get rid of the extra from Escape to Victory and get someone who knows what there doing and how to coach and speak to youth players otherwise it sounds like we are going to lose out on talent as OldSchool said under 16s don't want to play for him therefore won't sign contracts, disgusting!

No Muhren your sad life is obviously being on here making stupid comments about things you have not seen and are therefore incapable of passing judgement on and clearly my degree did not need punctuation do you have one ? And some of the boys are moving on Maduko at Leicester already O Donnell prob off to Brighton these boys are not all sub standard BUT WE HAVE A MANAGER AND CLUB WHO HAVE NO INTEREST IN YOUTH and agree their manager is poor and consistently spends his time abusing the officials

Oh. Well I'd always thought that Russel O was heads and shoulders above the current management. So what is happening?
We seem to have a completely negative youth policy which makes no sense whatsoever. Well, I suppose everyone will drift off.

And then they will change their minds at the top and start planning to back up first team players with young hopefuls who have been trained to replicate.
