Boss Paul Jewell has revealed that his squad will spend more of their summer than usual at Playford Road preparing for the 2012/13 season. Due to Euro 2012 and then the Olympics, which run from July 27th to August 12th, this year’s close season is longer than ever with the new campaign not starting until August 18th.

Jewell said: “The players are delighted because they’ve got to come in during the summer. They’re really pleased that they’ll be in three days a week.

“They’ll have their holidays and then they’ll be in three days a week because it’s a long old break this year and just giving them eight or nine weeks off is not an option.”

He says the club have asked the players for details of their breaks: “We have to give them three weeks consecutive holiday. I’ve had all the players’ holidays in. We’re just going through them now and then they will be in intermittently during the summer for their own good. I’m sure the wives are delighted!”

As for the pre-season tour, Jewell says that the destination is yet to be decided: “That depends on my budget.”

I hope they embark on a proper trip to the Netherlands and against more decent opposition this time. The Dutch can play the Enlgish way but with a lot more technical ability mainly and if they organise things now we could be in for a real treat. Aim for Excelsior and Zwolle to begin with and then maybe Heracles and Herenveen or Gronigen!

Friendlies are good for going to new grounds that we would not get to otherwise, (a bit like league cup matches). I have been to many over the years but somewhere different would be nice

I have never been to Northampton for starters, or Barnet, etc

Gilessy - Perhaps I'm getting confused with the end of the school holidays! All halcyon days. You are probably right that it was late August (a bit earlier in Scotland I recall). Gave cricket a chance to take centre stage. Now where is my pipe and slippers?

No excuse for PJ not to address the keeper and defensive situation then. Having said that he's had 14 months and failed so far ...

This would be an ideal time to work Cody Cropper into the first team. We know he is a very good keeper. Could be playing in the olympics for the USA under 23 side? if he is over his knee injury? He had his injury just before he was about to try out in the first team at the end of last year. But I think he may be chomping at the bit to get into the team for next season if not before depending on how well the team are doing? A real good prospect for Town. COYB

Just heard from a friend of mine in the USA that the German manager klinsman? I think thats the name I was told is saying he is not picking any player's under the age of 23 for the Olympic under 23 team. This has caused a row within the USA set up. If this is true does not go well for some of the USA players over here, including our Cody Cropper from Ipswich.? Has any one heard about this?
