Town Confirm Holland Pre-Season Trip
Town Confirm Holland Pre-Season Trip
Thursday, 3rd May 2012 08:28

Town boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that the Blues will be off to Holland for their pre-season tour once again this summer. The squad will be put through their paces at a training camp in Eindhoven between July 15th and 20th, the third year in succession that they have travelled to the Dutch city.

Jewell said: "I like Holland as a destination in pre-season. It's a short flight to get there, which is very important. I'm not really into these tours where you spend hours travelling there and back.

"The training facilities in Holland are good and it always helps to take the players away from the training ground and give them different surroundings to work in."

Last year the players were put through their paces at a complex in the village of Mierlo near Eindhoven where Jewell had previously taken his Wigan squad.

Town are likely to announce details of the friendlies they’ll play in Holland next week. The Blues took on FC Eindhoven and Den Bosch last summer, having faced PSV in a friendly the previous year.

Meanwhile, Jewell has backed England’s appointment of Roy Hodgson as manager, but feels the successor to Fabio Capello should have been named some while ago: ”I think it is ridiculous to have left appointing a manager for a major championships so late.

“I think we have to give the guy a chance,” he added. “He has been around. He has been an international manager and he has managed Inter Milan and Liverpool, so he has good pedigree.”

So disappointed they cant go Norway. It would be great for us fans and would be greatly appreciated. Yet again very disappointed, what does Ipswich ever do for their foreign fans? Rubbish.

Although this is great for the Dutch fans of Town. But thinking of us scandinavian Ipswich fans we are yet again left disappointed

But the most important thing is the football team, if its way better training in Holland and easier travel then ok, but if its not a huge difference then I dont see the problem in pleasing scandinavian Town fans.

Sindre I understand your frustration, I am in Germany and there are so many teams in the lower leagues which would be a good pre season for us and could also double up as a scouting trip!!

Maybe the team should forgo any training and just go round fan's houses for personal visits, to please the fans?

I'm sure a lot of us would like to go to Norway pre-season also and yes it would be good for the club to acknowledge their loyal Scandinavian fans especially as so many travel over to PR regularly.

I dont wish to be pendantic, but I dont think that Eindhoven is in Holland. It is definitley in the Netherlands for sure, but I think that is is too south for Holland and is probably in the province of Brabant.

I am sure that one of our Dutch friends will confirm this. Either that or I am an idiot.

Good luck though. Eindhoven is nice. My godfather fought there during the war. Operation Market Garden and all that.

COYB!

for those of us who do go on the pre season tours I am not sure that Norway is a prefered destination- that is unless Sindre can rustle up a few barrels of his grandads moon shine for the travelling Town fans.

(I would prfer not to be camping on an island in Norway in July)

you've been watching too much qi mate ;) its a half truth, holland (a diveration from the word holtland) is a loose translation for woodland, whereas nederland (or the netherlands to me and you) litterly means lowlands, owing to the fact that half the country is under sea level due to most of it being re-clamied sea bed, but the locals ive spoke to make no diffrence between the 2, its all the same country , the names are interchangable throughout the country and definatly not split (well friesland is but thats another story).
and harm itfc it is ineed in noord brabant, 10 points

I'm still looking forward to crashing at Sindre's in preseason 2013-14 along with 500 other Town fans. I've never been to Norway but I hear the alcohol is expensive, so if we all bring Sindre a six pack each that should see him through the year.

Haha! I dont drink alcohol in fact :)
