Town Linked With Move for Leicester's Gallagher
Town Linked With Move for Leicester's Gallagher
Sunday, 6th May 2012 15:15

Town are reported to have made a £750,000 bid to Leicester for striker or winger Paul Gallagher. The 27-year-old impressed as a second-half sub in the Foxes’ recent 2-1 victory over the Blues at Portman Road.

Gallagher was born in Glasgow but brought up in Blackburn and joined his local club as a youngster. While with Rovers he spent time on loan at Stoke (twice), Preston and Plymouth before joining Leicester for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2009. He is contracted until the summer of 2015.

Capped once by Scotland at full level, Gallagher, who is 6ft tall, has made 99 starts and 30 sub appearances since joining the Foxes and has scored 28 goals.

Gallagher’s wife Hayley recently gave birth to premature twins, one of whom, son Luca, died, while daughter Ava remains in intensive care.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have unveiled their statue of Sir Bobby Robson at St James’ Park.

What a crazy idea. Sign a player in 2009 on a deal expiring 6 years later. So there isn't anything in the rules then that says that you can only sign players on one or two year contracts. Gee.

If all the players who we would want to sign read some of the stuff on here, we'd sign no-one, because no one would want to come! So depressing. He's a good player.

Have always thought that this guy has a lot in his locker. IF true, wouldn't be our worste signing ever.
For those saying we wouldn't get him for £750,000, you never give your highest bid first [ isn't that how it goes ]. Good Murphy replacement if true.

There is some old rubbish on here!!

Moans because he's a "journeyman". Moans because he hasn't scored over 20 a season. Moans because he "isn't a centre back and that's our priority" so therefore we aren't going to buy any. Moans because he doesn't cost enough / is too expensive. Moans because he's too old / young.

Maybe it will be best to leave this site until August.

@hunty21 - what I'm saying is he's been at various clubs and Blackburn (Premiership) and hasn't settled down anywhere, not a mark of a great player and 1 cap for Scotland! not too many players have played back down in a lower division and their career has taken off. If I haven't a clue then I predicted Bowyer, Ellington and Sigmarrsson wouldn't be successful here.
@sindre - get your point, but he was young and that I believe was his first club, many a young player should be looked at from the lower leagues I believe.

Bluey123. Thank you for your advice. Perhaps after all we should get a GK first, then look for a defender, then a mf'er and finally a striker because they must come in order!!

Ahh, he's blonde! We've got some blonde haired players in the squad at the moment. Not needed. Need more gingers.

Lol nothin much different from our sites, some folk short sighted others ott... Im Leicester, with regards to Gally he's Marmite folks, his best position is either wide left or playin in the hole, i smile as i think of his pens, some of his dead ball stuff n an eye for a pass n a cracking shot! I also smile when i see him giving the ball away cheaply/greedily n 70% of his crosses dont beat the first man, how badly he tackles or heads, how exposed he leaves his fullback, need i go on...? He's good at times but a luxury, good but mostly flatters to deceive, you could get him, but 750k is far too little, n whilst some city fans will be sad to see him go others will rejoice, enjoy yr debate lol im waving bye bye Gally but not at that price..

Just seen megamouths entry lol, he WASN'T signed on a 6 year deal, Grandfather Sven saw him have 2 good games, only 2 mind, n extended his contract by 3 yrs.... Grandfather Sven spent too much money n stupid stupid money wages wise, do you know Mills is on 25k n Beckford close to 40k...? Oh n watch Ben Marshall, he does all that Gally did but takles heads n knows his defensive duties too.. ;] Now, how happy is Chopra....?

With regard to the statue, I am glad that the 'Flikr' report told me who it was otherwise I would not have recognised him.

With regards to Paul Gallagher, I wish your daughter well for a speedy and full recovery. Somethings are just more important than mere football!

yes PJ get him in - 750k is hardly breaking the bank for a decent player at this level - would take him on the left over Murphy any day. although defence and keeper still the priority, doesn't harm to have a bit more depth up front to support Chopra and Scotland, hardly overflowing with good forwards if our next best is Ellington (who PJ said can leave) and JET/Murphy who are wingers plus Murray back from Swindon. Get him in, then get the defence sorted. Good start if it happens. COYB

I think he'd be a great addition to the team, really creative, good on set pieces, decent age. After what happened with his little boy he might fancy a change of scenery and a fresh start somewhere.
