Town Linked With Move for Leicester's Gallagher
Town Linked With Move for Leicester's Gallagher
Sunday, 6th May 2012 15:15

Town are reported to have made a £750,000 bid to Leicester for striker or winger Paul Gallagher. The 27-year-old impressed as a second-half sub in the Foxes’ recent 2-1 victory over the Blues at Portman Road.

Gallagher was born in Glasgow but brought up in Blackburn and joined his local club as a youngster. While with Rovers he spent time on loan at Stoke (twice), Preston and Plymouth before joining Leicester for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2009. He is contracted until the summer of 2015.

Capped once by Scotland at full level, Gallagher, who is 6ft tall, has made 99 starts and 30 sub appearances since joining the Foxes and has scored 28 goals.

Gallagher’s wife Hayley recently gave birth to premature twins, one of whom, son Luca, died, while daughter Ava remains in intensive care.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have unveiled their statue of Sir Bobby Robson at St James’ Park.

Would be a great signing IMO., always liked him, he is a real threat.
Those who are complaining that we need to concentrate only on defenders rather than looking at other areas also at the moment are just plain stupid. Let's not sign anyone else, irrespective of price, opportunity or availability until the deals for a goalkeeper, a right back & 2 centre halves are done & dusted - great plan that, wonder what players will be left by then.

Decent player, would take him as a winger, no more than 750k though.

Firstly this is only a link at the minute so could be a load of rubbish, but even if it is true are some of you whiners really saying we should sign GK, and defenders before we sign forward players? Really ??
Have always liked Gallagher and 10 goals from 24 starts last season is a great return. Very similar to Murphy in some ways but potentially better. I would be happy enough if true.

Split opinions on here, those who support the idea say he was great against us, the same people who say our defence needed strengthening, so perhaps against a reasonable defence he wouldn't look so good, save the money and look elsewhere

Good player, very creative and would be a good addition.

Some of our fans are completely useless and don't have a clue. At £750k, he would be a very decent signing and could be useful for us next season. I do notice that there are a lot of people calling this guy average but not saying anything constructive...as usual...

Yes please. Just the sort of quality we need. I don't think £750k will be enough for Leicester though if he is contracted until 2015. Also I cannot see why they would want to sell him. Ps I like the way he takes penalties!

Good player get him in but for the right price. I think leicester will sell as they will be clearing out again this pre season with yet another manager change midway through last season.

But I want to start hearing us bidding for a bloody goalkeeper, 2 central defenders and a right back, that is were the squad is so obviously diffiecient and it wouldnt matter if Town sign Messi if were crap at the back!!

just read the leicester fans reaction to this very split 50/50 to whether they want him or not most seem to agree good squad player, good at home passenger away dosent like heading or tackelling but as some said hes a striker or wide man and they as far as im concerened dont tackle anyway. it seems he got lots of unwaranted tastless abuse of there fans and a lot of there fans are disgusted by it and said they wouldnt blame him if he did,his brother tweeted he definatly wont be going to town as his wife had trouble with the birth last month and he commutes to leicester from manchester and wont come this far south but looks to be engineering a move away but to who time will tell

For the sake of our more easily confused fans, can we please be 'linked' to players in order...from back to front...GK first. then defence and then...and only then, you can look at other positions. Oh and the fact that we don't have a competitive match for nearly 3 and 1/2 months is no excuse.

Back to planet earth....he looks like a good option and if the 'link' is accurate, hope we can bring him and other new recruits in, ASAP. Lets not forget that although we need a number 1, a commanding 'De Vos' like CB and RB....Murphy, Leadbitter and Bowyer all need replacing too.

Quality player worth way more than £750k. When he's fit he pulls all the strings at Leicester. He cant be compared to Murphy. He can beat people, he can pass and he can create. Murphy had nothing except the ability to head the ball. If he moves on it will be for more like 2million.

This is the wrong sort of player at the moment, we should be concentrating at the other end, Paul Gallagher is a journeyman as others have stated and why only put a bid in for 750k if he's that useful? and he's been at Preston and Plymouth - says it all!

I'm very bewildered by the myriad of negative comments about Paul Gallagher, seems to be to be a definite improve on Murphy as an option on the left wing and for much less money.

The comments being made labelling him as a 'journeyman' seems to be especially unwarranted. Leicester is only his second permanent club and he has been there now for a good 3 seasons, after moving from Blackburn. The rest of the time he was loaned out by Blackburn to gain first team experiences, at 3 different clubs respectively. By that same logic JET is 1 club away from being a journeyman, whilst Andros Townsend, a player I doubt many here would class as a journeyman, is a veteran of the modern game.

Those up in arms about this being the 'wrong signing in the wrong position', this also seems to be incredibly flawed logic. We have just lost our 1st choice left midfielder, and he needs replacing. I agree that Josh Carson is an option there, but those pinning their hopes on the young lad are being very blinkered, next season i believe he will get played more, but as an option off the bench. This isn't as much of a regression as many think, just look at the impact JET had off the bench against Birmingham, i think that sort of impact is what Carson should be used for next season, not starting on the left wing.

I'd definitely be positive about this signing, a dangerous player with a ferocious shot him all for under a million. I honestly don't know what the nay-sayers are blithering on about.

Been asking for this type of signing for past 3 seasons, yes other areas need sorting more urgently but this is the kind of player we need. Skill full, scores goals, all-round play maker, somebody who can change a game when it looks as though we are out of ideas, good age as well to come in on a 3 year deal.

Jim442 I'm afraid you have no idea about Murphy.

StowTractorBoy added 22:43 - May 6
Decent player and of course I would support him if he comes but I can't see it myself. Far more pressing areas to concentrate on so if we are going to spend money would rather we spend highly on a centre back and of course a goalkeeper who one his own is worth ten points if you get the right man.

can't beleive he is 27- where has his career gone?
Always thought he was a good player but nevr seems to have settled at a club - not sure why this is but it is the question mark in my mind over him.
Need a centre mid

What the f"ck do we do - look for players whose babies are ill! Christ.

God bless this guy, his family and his youngster. One can only imagine the torment and upset he and his wife are going through.

We are going to be linked with so many players. Let's get quality. Let's spend less on numerous players and get two, three or four decent quality signings, established players - I don't want potential, I don't want maybe, I want nailed on 1st XI players. Crack on Mr Benn, sorry - Mr Clegg.

Under good authority from Leicester season ticket holders - is that the verdict is they will gladly take our money as he is been crap all season...And also wasn't much better the season before ( only a couple of moments/matches were he any good - as shown by others on here). For me, would be another uninspiring signing.
