West Ham's Baldock on Town Wish List Wednesday, 9th May 2012 23:30
West Ham's Sam Baldock is amongst the strikers on Blues boss Paul Jewell’s summer wish list. The 23-year-old joined the Hammers from the MK Dons last August for a fee reported to be worth £2.75 million with add-ons.
Despite scoring five goals in his first six starts for the Upton Park club, Baldock has found it increasingly hard to break into Sam Allardyce’s side, particularly since the additions of Ricardo Vaz Te and Nicky Maynard in January.
While with West Ham he has made 11 starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring those five early goals. For the MK Dons, Aylesbury Vale-born Baldock netted 43 times in 82 starts and 42 games from the bench having come through their youth system.
Due to his lack of opportunities with the Hammers, the 5ft 7in tall striker, whose younger brother George is still with the MK Dons, is likely to be available this summer, either on loan or on a permanent basis. He has three years left on his contract.
The winner of two England caps at the U20 World Cup in Egypt in 2009, Baldock has been on the Blues’ radar for a while. At last November’s Supporters Club AGM, Jewell confirmed that he had been monitored prior to his move to West Ham.
The Blues boss has said that another striker is amongst his summer targets with Tamás Priskin having moved to Alania Vladikavkaz in January and Nathan Ellington set to leave the club.

Bowditch was signed by MK Dons as his replacement last summer. Funny a promising youngster for 2.5M, but didn't we sell another promising youngster for less than 1M called Jordan Rhodes!!

PJ would prefer his reinforcements to be “young and hungry”, he also wants them to be tall, powerful and speedy.

Hammers paid way too much for him, but i cant see this one happening because PJ said in the EADT that he's looking for players with height and pace and at 5ft 7" he is hardly a giant!

i would have thought that this will be a loan. Makes sense for all parties if the Hammers get promoted. We have two good strikers, but (@Duncan) they don't get played as a pair - so he will get a chance and the Hammers get him off their wage bill and he gets games for the season they are in the Premiership ;-)

Im with Tracorog on this one, if he comes in then its definitely likely to be on a loan basis. Anyone know how many players we have been linked with already? Must be totting up nicely!!!

Clearly we are not going to buy him for £2m+ but if wet sham get promoted he could be available on loan and would be a promising signing on the right terms. However I'd rather see an emphasis on permanent signings this summer so we can build a team that will be together for a number of years....if thats possible anymore.

I said on here a year or so ago before he moved to west ham that he was worth a punt if the price was right . I watch him play for MK Dons at Col Utd. That day he was awesome, pulled their defence all over the place and had 4 one on ones with the keeper, scoring 3 quality goals . I'd say yes !

PlanetBlue2011 - I would have suggested that Gary Madine were a great shout and a very good option to pursue if Wednesday didn't go up. Baring in mind the recent successes of N*rw*ch and Southampton during their first seasons back in the Championship and the relentless ambition of Milan Mandaric to get them in the Premier League there, I would find it difficult to persuade him to come here. It would be pointless anyway, Sheffield Wednesday would not sell and do not need to sell unless its silly money (which Clegg and Evans clearly won't bid). My big admission on Baldock is, why did Allardyce feel the need to go out and sign both Vaz Te and Maynard in January after signing this fella 3 months earlier? Seemed a bit overkill to bring in 2 top strikers if he was deemed to be good enough to compete in the Championship. He would have a serious point to prove if he came here. I hope Town don't get him on loan "with a view to a permanent deal being scuppered by someone else willing to pay higher wages if he impresses for us".

yawn yawn! probably untrue, if it is true we will offer £2.50 then up our bid in 50p stages until offer is either accepted or 10 other clubs have beaten us to the chase! if we do agree an offer we will then get the player down and offer him a pathetic contract and discourage him from joining once he has met clegg the c*nt. CLEGG OUT

Agree with others - we will not be paying 2.75M period this Summer! Realistic targets needed.

Well said Dissboyitfc - I was about to mention K. Phillips (what a legend btw) John Stead is 6ft 3" but hardly won a header down here..what has height got to do with it?
Bergholtblue added 15:01 - May 10
With 3 years left on his contract and WHU possibly playing Prem football next year (Come on Blackpool!) he will be too expensive for us.

Homer 123.... my memory does serve me correctly, the board at the time would NOT fund the move for Phillips, but my bigger point was directed at those forming an opinion on his height who have not seen him play. David Johnson(the second) was 5'6. Tamas Priskin was 6'1, i know who i would prefer everytime. As Warkys_tash states, whats height got to do with it? The best player in the world is 5'7... Realistically i dont believe we will get him, but why must some be negative over everything????? This would be a fantastic signing...COYB

Get Madine from Wednesday he's taller! We need height up front not another short arse!!

He aint going to be coming here so move on!
buryblue77 added 19:55 - May 10
Planetblue, Wednesday have been promoted to the Championship so I very much doubt they'd look to sell Madine now, not unless it was for huge money and we can't afford that!

..we get linked with 32 year old free transfer, and you moan,we get linked with a 2.75m 23 year old and you still moan, jewell cant win with some of you ...COYB
buryblue77 added 21:49 - May 10
shaunest, we're not moaning at being linked with a player of his ability, most of us are merely stating that we don't believe it will happen due to funds. West Ham signed him for £2.75m and ok it hasn't fully worked out (yet) but I'd be surprised if they'd want to sell for less than £2m and I don't think we have that sort of money anymore.
