Lewis Joins Cardiff
Lewis Joins Cardiff
Friday, 25th May 2012 17:41

Former Peterborough keeper Joe Lewis has signed a contract with Cardiff City. The 24-year-old was a free agent having been released by Posh and as we reported earlier in the month had been sounded out by the Blues as well as the Bluebirds as Paul Jewell looks to bring in a new number one ahead of the start of the 2012/13 campaign.

We understand Town didn't follow up their initial contact with ex-Canary Lewis, who is well-known to Blues keeper-coach Malcolm Webster from his time working with him at his other clubs.

Similarly, Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay and their keeper-coach James Hollman are also familiar with Lewis, who came through the ranks at Carrow Road.

The Blues' number one target is Polish international Tomasz Kuszczak, who is set to leave Manchester United this summer.

However, Town face very stiff opposition for his signature with top flight clubs in England and Germany believed to be interested.

Birmingham’s Colin Doyle has also been linked but with sources close to Portman Road playing down the Blues’ interest.

Elsewhere, Dundee United midfielder Scott Robertson, who was recently linked with the Blues, has said he is as yet undecided on where he will play football next year.

Good ... Have you seen what the peterborough fans think of him ??? This could of been a PJ disaster . Lets go for Craig Gordon from Sunderland

I agreee - too many negatives heard/written about him to make me feel that we would be missing something if we didn't sign him.

Not bothered TBH...hes barely played over the last season, and doesn't seem likely to at Cardiff with Marshall having signed a new deal.

Why would we want a Peterborough reserve kepper, shows his ambition Cardiffs 1st choice has just signed a new 3 year contract. Would rather stick with ALB than Lewis.

Another possible 'target' gone - but I am sure PJ has a Plan B, C, D and E.

@ bluey123
Poor goalkeeper , very poorly rated by a very high percentage of Posh fans and hasnt been able to get into the Posh team . So yeh , it is alright to say " did not want anyway " . In no way would he strenghten the squad so glad he's gone to Cardiff .

I tend to agree with the majority on here, in that I don't really think he would have been too much, if any, of an improvement on what we already have. But again, it bothers me that this is another potential deal we couldn't close.

Anyone want to buy my season ticket?

BIgAlsMate - if the story is correct, we didnt close the deal cos there never was one. We made an enquiry and it ended there. Thank goodness.

No better than Wright or ALB, we have dodged a bullet ........ I think targeting a Prem number two who wants to start every week would be much better.......

As far as I know was just press speculation and no firm links were made. Town need a keeper and he was available. 2+2=7
