Clegg Delighted to Make Chambers Second Signing
Clegg Delighted to Make Chambers Second Signing
Monday, 9th Jul 2012 16:51

Town chief executive Simon Clegg said he was delighted to make former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers the club’s second signing of the summer at a Portman Road press conference this afternoon. The 26-year-old free agent has put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

Clegg said: “I’m delighted that Luke has joined us today, he’s been out on a double training session today already.

“We finalised all the paperwork on Friday, Luke arrived yesterday and I’m delighted that he’s our second signing of this close season.

"I’m very excited about Luke joining the club and very excited about the season ahead of us.”

Chambers says ambition was the key to his move to the Blues: “I met the manager here a few times in the summer and it was clear that he's ambitious, the owner is ambitious and the club is ambitious.

"That proved to be the key factor for me. There were other clubs interested but when I looked at the players here - and I know the gaffer wants to add another three or four players - it's a club that looks to be going in the right direction.

"I felt it was the right time for a new challenge after five years at Forest and having been down at Ipswich to have a medical last week and to look around the place, that new challenge was always going to be at Ipswich Town.

"I can't wait to get going now. As I said, with the players we have here, with the manager we have here, we are capable of doing well in the Championship this season."

It's a big relief to get him as my heart sank when I saw that "Chambers Returns to Nottingham" headline a few days ago. Luke ticks all the boxes we want: right position, right age, Player-of-the-season award at Championship level, former captain...it's fantastic to get him on a free transfer! Well done to all involved on this one.

Every photo of Mr Chambers shows a different person.

Plenty of room on his left arm for some more tattoos

Play well Luke, great signing. Perhaps we can still attract quality players after all?

He must have been a sailor before entering the professional ranks. Do you think he'll agree to a long sleeve top?

Very pleased with this signing. Now hoping for more signings in the coming days. GK and another CB an absolute priority. There can be little doubt we have lost out on a number of potential signings this Summer - certainly more than we have signed - so still much for PJ and Clegg to do.

jas. weve missed out on a number of signings? not quite sure who you think they are. clearly ward & kusczak tho we only missed out on ward due to him wanting to be closer to his family,. we never went in for pearce so if he 1 you talking about then that not the case. and the jacubovic, we not got round to making an offer as yet as hed only been here for 2 days of a week long trial, so again, not 1 we actually missed out on. so, so far, we've missed out on 2. thats 2 then out of the last 18 we've wanted to sign. not a bad record id say. unless of course you're including every player that phil has reported we linked with, most of which we'll never know if we after or not.

Excellent. Centre half through the door, right back through the door - two good signings for two positions we need strengthening.

Great signing-him and Smith should make a solid partnership. Future captain-Edwards should keep it for the time being.
Now lets tie up the Kouromma deal.
....well done cleggy.

lets hope that this isnt more false dreams and promise's and well done to those who turned up at itfc to ask your questions i have to say there was some cracking questions wish there were more there but it just shows how many wannabe managers that have lost hope in town, but lets see if we can get the motovation going and that we get those questions answered soon

Any know what the story with Kourouma is? Is the red tape still waiting to be cut?

I dont give a dam about who we supposedly miss out on, its not about the alleged ones that got away, its about the ones who do sign. But then i suppose if you are a moaner, not much to moan about with this signing. I would rather PJ and Evans take their time and get the right personnel in.....COYB

Orgasm time for the likes of blues1 and dissboyitfc - because WE'VE SIGNED A PLAYER (you know, the thing most Clubs do without too much difficulty).
Easy Peazy satisfied - nothing changes there then.

Seriously, I am very pleased he has signed - he 'should' prove to be a good signing - but please don't get too ecstatic, we need a few others if we are to be serious contenders for anything at this level.
How about a Goalkeeper now ? - I notice we have lost out on one that 'was on the premises' ready to sign - which Hull has now snapped up.

Good News YES - but not exactly the Lord Mayors Show time - as yet anyway.

Oh God some typical Ipswich ''we are a family club'' fans on here. He has a tattoo get over it! Most people do nowadays. Anyway that is irrelivent glad we have managed to sign a player of his quality and on a free as well!
