Clegg Delighted to Make Chambers Second Signing
Clegg Delighted to Make Chambers Second Signing
Monday, 9th Jul 2012 16:51

Town chief executive Simon Clegg said he was delighted to make former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers the club’s second signing of the summer at a Portman Road press conference this afternoon. The 26-year-old free agent has put pen to paper on a three-year deal.

Clegg said: “I’m delighted that Luke has joined us today, he’s been out on a double training session today already.

“We finalised all the paperwork on Friday, Luke arrived yesterday and I’m delighted that he’s our second signing of this close season.

"I’m very excited about Luke joining the club and very excited about the season ahead of us.”

Chambers says ambition was the key to his move to the Blues: “I met the manager here a few times in the summer and it was clear that he's ambitious, the owner is ambitious and the club is ambitious.

"That proved to be the key factor for me. There were other clubs interested but when I looked at the players here - and I know the gaffer wants to add another three or four players - it's a club that looks to be going in the right direction.

"I felt it was the right time for a new challenge after five years at Forest and having been down at Ipswich to have a medical last week and to look around the place, that new challenge was always going to be at Ipswich Town.

"I can't wait to get going now. As I said, with the players we have here, with the manager we have here, we are capable of doing well in the Championship this season."

A very good, very welcome signing. Okay, so we haven't signed all of the 4 or 5 players that we need TODAY, but they do usually arrive one at a time anyway...and that's the same at Ipswich or any other club.

By the way I am pleased we are a family club so maybe that is the wrong word. But I think people who agree will know what I mean. '' Squeeky clean fans'' is maybe a better phrase

Pivotal signing by Clegg/ Jewell. NOW this Club is starting to go in the right direction. This is the first time we have signed a player in his prime that is a central defender and most likely our next Captain.

Just a decent GK and another striker, Left midfielder and we will be ready for Aug ko . Bring it on !

h32. no1 is saying its the best signing ever made by itfc. if you read my post where i didnt think youd be on here, its nothing to do with whether we signed a great player or not. just the fact that you, & others just slag off clegg, etc without knowing the facts, without ne reason as to why, as clearly now he has signed, just shows how unjustified that criticism was. the fact his wife unwell was why the delay, not because we unable to get a player to sign. but you won't apologise for that unjust criticism, instead you,ll just have a go at people for being happy that he has signed. just because i dont get hysterical & criticise doesnt mean im always happy at how things are at this club, but i choose to back the club until such time its clear only a change will solve that problem. clearly that is not now.

Use the force Luke, ok couldn't resist I will get my coat. Welcome aboard Luke may you have many happy years at the club and become another famous and celebrated name for our defense.

I for one think this a good signing and once the keeper is sorted I get a good feeling about this season.... There again do have to point out I have been saying that for the last 10 years lol

blues1... a spot on post, unfortunately you are asking a leopard to change its spots.
Thats a big ask, even if we win promotion their argument will remain Positively negative...COYB

Really pleased to have got our man! Quality player - good in the air, calm in possession and can bring it out from the back and play it - the ITFC way. Hope this is just the start and we manage to sign a new keeper, CB, wide man and attacker. The defence is starting to take shape with two young full backs and a quality CB! COYB

Not sure if he's really the man for us - he fails to make any mention of the training facilities in his interview.

Dissboyitfc - nodding dog, or what ?? - your posts get forever more sad, and worst of all - UNTRUE.

blues1 - check my posts (as far back as you like) and you will see I have, and will, post regularly come what may.

What you ALWAYS get is TRUTH and REALISM - not euphoria based on 'cloud cuckoo land' thinking.

Let's all be happy for 'signing a player' should we ?? - and hope for more.

h32. You are one moody person. Are you like this even when we win a game? People expect signings day by day. Some teams in this league haven't even made one signing yet, so just chill. Nevertheless, great signing JEWELL. Also well done CLEGG and EVANS. Just pointing the names out to you h32.

TractorBoy666 - 'people expect signings everyday' - REALLY.
I very much doubt there is any truth at all in that statement - I CERTAINLY DON'T expect that. Therefore - more rubbish.

And no one, but no one, is happier than I when we win - I hope that provides your answer.

As for the three names !!!!!! - I would think everyone knows them, including you obviously.

Warwickblue... yes he had an orgasm when it looked like luke had turned his back,
i feel sorry for people whos only excitement is to be negative and try to poison every strand of good news.

There has been some really positive news out of portman road of late, Klug's return, Elliot Hewitt, Kourouma, Chambers and i believe the signing of steve williams will prove a big success.

I would rather the news slow but positive as opposed to Ingimarson Ellington bowyer type signings....COYB

I keep reading when will we sign another player n for Clegg too mess it up: Clegg doesn't have anything too do with transfers now Evans n Jewell r in total control: this is the 100% truth

Unbelievably reading posts criticising Chambers he looks, his tattoo's last season form: I don't give a monkeys what he looks like or did last season if u write his statement last week you will realise he had family problems: what matters is what he does on the pitch I think it's a brilliant signing ask any true Notts Forest fans they will tell u he is a really good defender: let's support Luke n the club, also key is he says he joined because of the clubs ambition n further signing going too be made so clearly Jewell has targets the press don't know about: I read we have missed out on targets I'm not bothered bout Ward, Tomas K or J. Pearce didn't want too join my interested in earning ridiculous wages: let's hope all fans can get behind the club n be positive COYB!!!!

Bluey 420: I like your posts and you seem to know your stuff. Keep up the good work. There's just one thing, the word "too" in almost every context that you have used it in the last few days is incorrect. COYB

Just sayin

bluey 420 - you're right about the majority of signings coming in 'under the radar'. It is quite rare that early speculation leads to an actual signing - and quite common for players to be announced as new signings when there has been very little prior comment in the media. As in any business, why would 'outsiders' have any real knowledge of what is happening behind boardroom doors?

Bluey420 A true " Nottingham" Forest fan here who can honestly confirm that Chambo became a liability with his lack of pace and bottle, if Cotterill hadn,t bought in the loan defenders in january we would have been playing Colchester next season, sorry to put a damper on it but a 3 year contract for him is mental
all the best for next season ................You Reds
